I have a Bally E-1091 machine that pays out on all jackpot 2 thur 40 coins, but not the 50 coin jackpot. This is a 2 coin single line game. When it happened the first time I thought it might have just been a reel reader problem, but I checked with program 5 and all reels read correctly in all positions. I was playing it again today and it happened again. So I opened up the machine and ran program 5 again without touching the reels and again reading correctly? I'm not sure where to look next to fix or find this problem. I have attached pics of the machine and its payouts, and of the number 5 test codes in the reel positions in question... Any help will be greatfully appreciated.

Thanks Gary

you may have the wrong program or a corrupted eprom - what is the program (p1)?  do a 6 test will also give you the P1

This is what the win meter read after running #6 Memory Check... 5.9.5.1.9.5. I did it 3 time to make sure.

that is the right program - when you did the 5 test on the bar5 payout line what codes did you get?

Barry... I ran test 5 right after it happened this last time. The pic at the start of this thread show the code numbers in the win meter and the location of the reels in question. All 3 reels came up with the number 2 in the meter. There are only 4 symbols on this machine, the Cherry's come up as 0, the jackpot show 1, them the jackpot5 reads 2 and last the 7's come up as 3 when running test 5. All positions read correctly. That's why I'm stumped? Should I reseat the chips on the MPU board to see if the problem goes away?

this is a strange one - are you playing 1 or 2 coins?

Both times this happened I was playing only 1 coin. I have not hit this jackpot on a 2 coin play yet to see if it would payout the 100 coins. As you can see it my pics, the coin lights a both still out like its waiting to pay the jackpot.

didn't catch that - so you say that the machine locks up - can't play a coin?   if that is the case then it is a bad reader - just because you are getting a correct code - there may be a short in one of the reader photo trans.

I don't remember if the machine locked up the first time this happened, but I don't think it did.. The second time it happened I grabbed my camera and took the 1st pic on this posting. It shows 1 coin played but nothing paided out. Then I opened the machine and ran program 5, and thats in pic 2 showing the codes 2 for all 3 reels...  Could the problem be with the reel reader control board?

if the game stops when you get the 3 bar/5 then it is a reader - if the machine just does not pay - then it has to be  a program error - if the P1 is corrupt it would not boot up.  If you can play a coin and pull handle when you get a no pay then it can't be the reader - do you have another MPU board?  it would be worth a try to narrow down the problem.    If you can burn an eprom I can send you a bin file.

I have 3 parts machines, but I need to check to see if any of them has the same MPU.  As for my self I don't have the means to burn an eprom, but a friend of mine does. Let me ask you this question... What if I were playing 2 coins and the machine stopped on the bar/5 and it paid out the 100 coins won, then what might my problem be, or would that even be possible with it not paying the 1 coin jackpot of 50 coins??

the way the payscales are setup on the P1 prom - would have shown a corrupt eprom if it paid 100 but not the 50.

I found a spare MPU to try in this slot machine, but it has one different jumper soldered on the board. I have taken pics of the MPU from my machine and how it's jumper is set, and the spare MPU and it jumper setting. Looks like the one from my slot machine has been moved, could this be causing my payout issue?

jumper is for P2 prom -  if you have a P2 this jump is required -  if you do not have a P2 prom - the jump as no effect.

Here we go again round 2 with this machine... Scratch Head   Well I swapped out all 3 reel reader with another set, and reset all the chips on the MPU. Everything payout again except the 3bar/5 jackpot again. I was playing 1 coin and it stopped on 3bar/5 jackpot. The machine seems to know it stopped on a jackpot, but will not pay. I have noticed that when a jackpot is being paid both the coin accepted and insert coin lights are out till the coins are paid. At that time the coin insert light comes back on. When this machine lands on the 3bar/5 jackpot, both the insert coin and accepted light are out like it wants to pay the jackpot but can't?? To continue playing you must open the machine and reset it? Whats my next step to try, swapping out all the chips to a different MPU and try it, or are we back to P1 prom being corrupt? Could there be a bad Traics on the I/O? Where should the dips switch's on the MPU be set? My books don't explain them very much. Just says that #8 needs to be on and that #1 switch is the jackpot bell. I know it's alot of questions but I'm still learning and taking notes.... Nerd

Thanks in advance for your help..  Gary Odie
