S2000 board swap- 502 to enhanced

So I've got an enhanced board set and I think I'm ready to swap out the 502 and motherboard on my Money Mad Martians. I notice on the legacy adapter it has sockets labeled SS, VS, DSP, GM1 thru 4 and BASE. Some sockets are obvious, but what are SS, VS and DSP sockets for? And what little brick walls am I gonna run into in the process of switching over? Or is it a pretty straight forward deal to swap base, version, game chips and simm card to the new board, install it all in the cabinet, turn it on and go? I'd really appreciate any advice the experienced might have on this, thanks

Let me try this as i have been studing as a new s-2000 owner...
SS is for the s+ reel chip if you want to use one
VS is for the version chip
DSP is for the sound simm for the game or generic sound simm
GM are for the game chips

Do you mean the DSP is for an eprom based sound simm? I've got a simm card and there's a socket for it on the legacy board. And I guess I'm wondering about the 2 ram chips that are on the 502. Do i not need these anymore? No place to put them on the MPU or legacy boards

Not to high jack your thread but what is a enhanced board and what does it do?      Can you use a standard S-2000 games in it
or do you have to have more chips?

I'm not sure what IGT's origional use was for the Enhanced MPUs, but it can be used on S2000s if you have a legacy adapter board that plugs onto it the same way a multimedia lite board plugs onto a 502 or 504 board. My reason for swapping is to eliminate the speaker noise that is common on the S2000s. It was either that or go to a 504b board and this was actually a cheaper way to go. Picked up the whole board set off ebay for $81 plus shipping. There's probably other benefits I'm not yet aware of, but as long as it does what I got it for I'm a happy guy

Ron, the enhanced board was in those machines Dan had at the show. Its the reel version of the 044, so the MPU has plugs for a daughter gameboard. This gameboard can be a legacy adapter which will use all your S2000 eproms and sound Simm or be a flash gameboard.

The DSP is actually for a display chip eprom, not anything to do with sound.... DSPL0002 is in my machine.

And someone asked why IGT did these... It is for the flash board setup in S2000 just like the 044 Flash board setup in iGames like was mentioned above. The real reason is to make it harder for people to copy their software, thus the flash boards! The legacy adapter boards allow you to use older software, so at least they left some backward compatibility options.

The swap should be pretty easy. I suggest taking pictures of how everything is plugged into the original backplane before you swap it out for the enhanced as it may be a little different connector arrangement if I remember correctly, unless I am thinking of the 044 Conversion.)

The only other thing to be really careful of is installing the SB Base chip as the socket on the Legacy Adapter Board has pin sockets for the SB chip and it must have perfectly straight legs guided in while you install. Also I really suggest installing the chips with the adapter board off of the MPU board, otherwise the tray gets in the way of installing the SB chip easily.

Hey cowboy,
When you get a chance....can you post up 2 pictures of these boards?
I'm wondering what the fuss is about these things.
Two hi resolution pictures so we can see for ourselves the physical differences.
I heard both good and bad about these "enhanced boards".
#1concern: They're a pain to get chips in & out of because the tray?
I'm wondering if a "low-profile" ZIF socket would solve that problem?>>>
