any one have a suggestion for inexpensive label printer that would work for eproms??

Hi

You get pre cut peel of adhesive labels that you can put in a standard computer printer (Like Avery or Tower). You can download templates from their websites for Word that will sort out your page size and alignment. Or get the label printers from Dymo or Brother - i think the narrowest tape for these is 8mm but you can always use a small font and trim it thinner

I use the Avery 5125 which are 1/2 x 1 3/4.  They feed in ink jet and laser and only need a little trimmed off the one side.  They look real professional with the rounded corners.  If you type it up in word you can make a whole sheet of 20 and have extras.

I've been using this DYMO labeller I got from Staples and chips boxes from Mouser.
It prints two lines...I only wish it would print 3 lines but I'm happy with it...

Those hand held labelers are the way to go!  I have the Brother model. You figure if you're only labelling a few chips at a time, using a full sheet of computer labels may be a hassle for small applications. The handhelds are ideal for small jobs, although you usually have to trim them a bit after printing.

+1,  Avery 5267 is the same size as the 5125. I only print what I need, the free Avery application DesignPro (I have version 5, there may be newer) allows you to pick which label position on the sheet you want to print, or which position to start and stop printing on if you're doing multiples. The size is such that only the length needs to be trimmed, the witdth is already perfect.

That is another good thing about the computer fed Avery labels.  I like a lot of data of my eproms and with the smallest font you can fit a small paragraph almost.

I am a cheap skate, I do it on my computer and print them on peel off labels for file folders. You have to trim each one but you
can print three lines on it. This works good if you have a lot to do, then you can cut them all out at once. The program for this is in WORD.

I know today (Black Friday) a number of the office supply stores had the Brother P-touch handheld labeler for about $10.  I have one of them (a slightly older model) and I like it -- it's easy to use and gets the job done.

Obviously, as posted in this thread, there are a number of ways to accomplish your goal of chip labeling!

I use the Dymo Labeler Letra Tag model LT-100T bought it from Wal-Mart it works great. You can use paper labels or plastic coated labels.
