Greets all!

I've read through all of the other threads and tried the suggestions, but to no avail.  Basically, I've got an older I-Game that I need to get Wheel of Fortune running on.  So far, no luck getting into a full key chip menu - with or without the board lock.

Here's what I've got:

All EPROM's @ 120ns or faster

Motherboard - 75904406 Rev B
I/O Boards - 75425201 Rev A & 75424803 Rev A
Mainboard - 75703802 Rev B
Audio - 13901290 Rev A

BASE - I0000123
GME - G0000176
PXL - P0000180
CG - C0000180
SND - SWC00003

Mainboard keyswitch installed and verified functional via built-in system test.

All attempts tried with the keyswitch in both the on and off positions.

Key00005 - Loads a truncated Key Chip menu that does not allow changes to denom, BV, etc.
Key00017 - Game loads normally, no Key Menu - ERROR returned that Key is from incorrect group.
Key00022 - Loads normal clear menu, but upon restart just goes directly to game.
Key00040 - Garbage on screen at startup. Non-functional.

Is there a SPECIFIC series of steps, door opens, and key turns or some such thing to get into the Privileged Menus?  Do I have a wrong board installed?  Anything anyone can think of?

Thanks in advance!!

according to the PSR you are using the correct key with the 05... Scratch Head  not really sure honestly if there is a special series of procedures to get into more keychip options...maybe this program only allows modification to some of the normal i-game secure options since it is a WAP program?  we could never do any programming on WAP games so i've only watched the IGT guys do their thing and i'm not sure if we ever had this program on our floor.  i know i didnt help much but here's the info from the PSR if you don't already have it!

COMPLETE SET OF VIDEO GAME CHIPS

Game EPROMS   The game program is stored on a set of two erasable, programmable, read-only memory chips (EPROMs), which are either 27080 or 270801 devices.  The labels indicate GME1 and GME2 and the game EPROMs version (G0000176).

Base EPROM  The base program is stored on this EPROM, which is either a 4096 or a 27C240 device.  The label indicates BASE and the base version (I0000123).

Character and Pixel EPROMs   This set of four EPROMs consists of two CGs, which are either 27040 or 270401 devices, and two pixels, which are either 27080 or 270801 devices.  The label indicates CG1, CG2, PXL1, and PXL2 along with the version number (C0000180).

Sound EPROM   The IGT digital sound card is required for this game.  The associated EPROM is a 27080 device and is labeled SWC00003.

Key Chip  The key chip is either a 4096 or 27C240 device; the label indicates KEY00005.

Well, I tried the clear 97 - all I got was a flashing red LED and garbage on the screen.  I still went ahead after that with the Key5, but I'm still stuck at 'Security Level 1' on the Key Chip screen.

FYI:  I tried both enabling and disabling the keyswitch prior to pressing reset and restarting to enable the Key Chip menus.

kforeman - looks like you've got the PSR - is this a WAP version?

Of course, the next question is:  If it is WAP, is there a non-WAP version for I-Game?

If it is Key 5 it is NOT Wap! That is an older igame Wheel of Fortune with an 035 board. Every one I have seen is a regular, NON Wap iGame.  Wap versions started with the 3902 platform.

Hmmm.  Well, something is up...   Silly Me!

This morning I've tried an updated I-game board as well as an I+ board.  The I+ board accepted the Key17 clear without giving me the incorrect group message, but it did not let me in to the key menus (it loaded straight to the game).

Here's my understanding of the procedure - please correct me wherever I'm wrong:
  • Game cleared (no credits, etc)
  • Install Key5
  • Power on
  • Push test to enable Key
  • Power off
  • Replace key with base
  • Power on
  • At Key menu, turn board lock switch to access privileged menus

The issues I need to correct are:

Denom change (it's locked at $0.05)
BV Config
Hopper Config
Printer Config
Pay schedule setup
Limits
Sas

Does anyone have a fully functional and Key Chip'able WoF that they could check board and software revisions for me?

If it is Key 5 it is NOT Wap!

I guess that's part of the question - apparently the PSR calls for Key5, but it doesn't look like anyone on NLG has ever had a Key5 work for them with this version of the game.  There are spotty successes with Key17 & Key22 posted, but I have duplicated those setups and was unable to get it to function.

I know my software is good - I can play the game just fine as a $0.05 coin only without any issues at all.

Also, for some reason, in the I-game cabinet the BV 'readys' but will not take bills.  Move the board to an I+ cabinet and an I+ mainboard and the BV works just fine (but still can't get into key chip).   hissy fit  hissy fit  hissy fit

WWG,
It really sounds like it's a much older game which is probably restricted
to the older 035 MPU board as Forrhouse suggested?
I'd try getting my hands on one of those boards and test it out...?

Karsten-

Are you setting up this old WoF game that's pictured below, or a newer game?

For what it's worth, I've never seen that game as anything but $0.05.  It might be hard-coded into the software.

Motherboard - 75904406 Rev B
I/O Boards - 75425201 Rev A & 75424803 Rev A
Mainboard - 75703802 Rev B
Audio - 13901290 Rev A

BASE - I0000123
GME - G0000176
PXL - P0000180
CG - C0000180
SND - SWC00003

Kangl is right.  According to the PSR for that game set the denomination is fixed at 5c.    The instructions for accessing the keychip menu from the PSR state the following:

Key Chip Menu

Turn the machine’s power off.  Remove the base EPROM from the processor board.  Insert the key chip (Key 5) into the base EPROM socket.  Turn the power on.  Press the test switch; the Key Chip Menu will not be enabled until the test switch is pressed.  Turn the power off.  Remove the key chip.  Reinsert the base EPROM.  Turn the power on.  Once the machine completes the initialization process, the machine displays the Key Chip Menu before the game screen appears.

Note the step to push the test switch, that's different from later Keys.

Exactly what I did.

Am trying to locate an older board in stock currently.

For what it's worth - if I put the game on an I+ board and in an I+ cabinet, the BV works perfectly... go figure...

Well - I ended up leaving it in an I+ cabinet on an I+ board and that's how it went out the door..... (had to remove the printer though)

Still, this one's kinda bugging me a bit as I hate electronics I can't get to do what I want 'em to - and would really love to get to the bottom of it as a cerebral exercise in futility, but they don't pay me for that.  Drat.

That version of WOF is pretty old, pre-TITO by a long ways.  Check your email.
