Newbie with S+ questions

My boss recently bought a slot machine.  We have been playing it and having a blast.  Based on what I read on here I figured out it is an IGT S+ five times pay.  The plate on the side said its a 1998 machine.  We also have figured out it is the kind (I think 10 MHz) with the volume dial.  As soon as I can I will post some pictures... now for the questions.....

1. The machine seems really tight, and I would like to know what the percentage payout is...  I read it can be found on one of the chips.  Is the best way to remove the tray and the coin thing in the machine, and the chip should be right behind, or is it better to do some self test thing?  I keep reading about the self test, but I don't understand what it is or how I do it. 

2.  The bill validator does not seem to take new bills, and it only takes bills facing one direction.  What is the easiest, cheapest way to make it take the new bills?  My boss might just keep a bunch of old bills around so we can play, but if it would take new bills it would be nice.

3.  The machine had no locks installed on the door, and no keys.  After reading all these posts I noticed that it should have a jackpot reset key and a door lock.  It looks like there is a place for two door locks?  What is the second hole on the door for?  I am pretty sure the jackpot reset is on the side up above the handle, does that seem right?  Do we actually need a jackpot reset key?  What exactly does it do?  What happens if you use the jackpot reset if the jackpot has not been hit?  will it go longer until it hits?

I am sure I will have more questions... we are totally new to this.  It was just a fluke that we got this machine and now we think its the coolest thing ever!!    

I had no idea how slot machines worked.  Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions.

2  Get a JCM DBV 200 with ID 22/23 I do not think it will take anything past the previous new $10 or such I knoow it wont do the newest $5.

3  IF you turn the JP key without jackpot win (usually set for any win over 400, or 1000 coins, you will get into the statistical or accounting meters.
   The front lock is for the Belly door the knob above it pulls out (place hand near it It will swing down. the back one is for the main door lift up when you open the door and also when closing.

Welcome to the site!  This forum is by far the best resource for home owners of slot machines.

A few things to add:

- The "coin thing in the machine" is called the hopper.  The hopper dispenses coins out to the coin tray when you cash out.

- Always turn the power off before removing or inserting the hopper or the MPU board (the removable circuit board in the back of the machine, mounted in a silver tray with a black knob on it).  It's especially important to never remove or insert the MPU board with the power turned on.

- The higher the multiplier of the game theme, generally the harder it is to hit stuff.  For example, your Five Times Pay machine won't have as frequent hits as a Double Diamond, but will have more frequent hits when compared to a 10 Times Pay.

- It is not possible to control how long the machine goes until a jackpot is hit.  Each spin is an independent and random event, and the outcome of the previous spin has no bearing on future spins.  You have an equal chance of hitting the jackpot on your first spin as you do on your 100th spin.

So I have looked at the recomended reading and it looks like there is no self test button next to my power switch is there somewhere else it would be?

Sometimes the test button is located behind the power switch.  Hard to see but you can feel it.

Thanks!!!!  That is where it was!  So it has two numbers 1227 and 6273, so based on the chart it has a 92.513 percent payback.  I guess the machine just seems tight because the hits are further between, yesterday the machine was hitting all day so It is better now! 

I still don't have my camera here but when I remember to bring it I will up load a photo.
