I didnt know where to ask this,  Scratch Head so I'll ask it here. "Do I use polarized or non polarized bulbs in my machines? Does the answer to that question apply to all bulbs, IE: button bulbs, credits bet bulbs on the reel glass, and or backlit bulbs? and if so, why? and will it damage my machines and or fry me?
Thanks,
Jim

I have never come across a polarized incandescent bulb, LED's on the other hand do have a polarity to them.
But to make it simple for people to install wedge type bulbs to solve them not working because they got reversed.
Some of the bulb replacement LED's have a resistor and additional diodes or such as part of them so they can function properly no the polarity.
I did get some LED bulb replacement from Happ Controls that did require you to match the polarity

Jim  Simple ans. to your question. Install your LED if it doesn't work, pull it out and rotate it 180 degrees and reinstall.  Most LED are polarized.

Word of caution LED installed in wrong place can/will cause serious damage.  I don't know what kind of machine you have so I won't say anymore.

Just be careful

If the Wires from the LED's short the positive and negative terminals in the socket something will be damaged.

Look at the bulbs and the sockets and you can get an idea what I mean.

It is the smaller sockets the S2000 and S+ uses for the BV and denom lamps that you have to be careful.

IF you make sure that each wire coming out of the bottom of the LED touches only one terminal and not both you should be fine.
Also be sure that the end of the wire near the top of the LED is not too long either.

I have never had a issue with LED's in my denom lamp or in the BV but I always look at bulbs or LED's to make sure each wire goes to its respective side and that side only.

A small piece of tape along the bottom edge of the LED should prevent issues as long the tape stays in place when you insert the LED.

The lamp sockets for the player switches should not give you any trouble.

I bought LED's that would replace the lamps in the S+ and S2000 from Happ Controls and they did not last long.
They did replace all of them one time under warranty.
The replacements didn't last any longer than the first ones.

I then bought some from MCM Electronics I have not had to buy another LED replacement for either machine yet.
I need to buy one since I have added a multi-denom player button to the deck.
I just moved the LED in the change button to the multi-denom buttton and put a regular lamp in change button.

I fried my Bezel lighting electronics by putting LED's in it, you need to get an LED lighting bezel, it's made with the LED's in it already.

I don't use LED's at all in my S2000 nor my Game King, because of the unknowns of what could get fried.  I'll stick with OEM stuff.  LED does look cool though.

Jason Just do a search for LEDs  I think I counted 200 threads on the subject .

I'm not going to say these will work in a  Bally ( I don't know for sure )  but a S 2000 and a Game King your plenty safe to install LEDs in all the play buttons.  The trouble begins when you install them in the Denom light and the DBV bezel. ( these two I know for sure ) besides they most times look like crap anyway.  "I know" some cluster LED look good in the denom light, I just can't afford them !!  And don't even think about installing them in  backlit reels, trust me they look really BAD.

Smells and smoke freak me out.  When I nuked the board on my old CEI poker machine, that left a pretty big scar in my mind.  When all you have are flourescent lights lit up and a cooling fan spinning, that's enough to make you want to hurl your lunch!

Good to know Buzz regarding the buttons.  I thought they required different sockets, but if it's just the LED, that's not too bad.  I've seen them in backlit reels and they do look like crap in my opinion.

Jason If you had a set of backlit LED panel reels you would throw rocks at the reels you now have. ( also takes a different controller ) I posted this pic. yesterday in another thread.

LEDs fit in the play button socket.  Put them in and if they don't work pull them out and rotate bulb 180 degrees and reinstall.

Reho and Jason, you don't have to be overly worried about using LEDs in the S2000 IF you just pay attention and read what Foster said.
(That's a big "IF". lolol. rotflmao rotflmao)
I also want to give credit to Buzz for first showing this to me a while back. applause

Just be careful

If the Wires from the LED's short the positive and negative terminals in the socket something will be damaged.

...

Personally I would cut the wires on any of the LEDs whose wires wrapped around both sides of the base. I would make sure to cut them slightly shorter than the length of the base on the feed side so that there was no chance of them shorting anything.

I have LED's in all my S2000's, and my GameKing  Tongue Out  Given the choice, I will never go back to the incandescent bulbs  no
The LED's look better, they stay cool (don't cook the Legends)  and they use a fraction of the power.  yes

I even went to all LED's in the buttons on my S+ machines...way better!  Crazy

As to the reels, I am looking forward to finding  the newer led reels for both my 4 reel and my 5 reel games!
The OEM XE359 bulbs are hard to find, and I agree that the led reels make you want throw rocks at the old ones!  hissy fit

I just missed a kit on ebay a while back that had the new reels and the reel controller.  (so if anyone has one for sale let me know)  applause

I would be interested in some details.  Finding leds for the buttons is an easy task. There are several suppliers that sell them for around a
dollar a pc. or so.  The denom lights are more, like the one MCM carries.

The bulbs for the reels? I havent seen any led bulbs for the S2K reels that don't show a bright spot on the strips.
If they are out there, I would like to try some. The newer led backlit reels that IGT has, use smd mounts and a seperate/different controller.
Maybe I am not as "experimental" as Jason on some things, but I am interested in finding a workable solution.  At least until I can find a new led reel kit etc.....

I bought 3 or 4 of these LED panels off Ebay to try in a back lit reel. 1st off they are exactly twice the size I needed,  You can cut them and they still work. Problem is with a standard controller they never go completely out. I only have one machine with LED backlit reels, and I never got around to changing the control boards to see what would happen. "Some day maybe"

I never got for enough into the project to mount them.  If you notice the male electrical plug fits right into the female on the reels.

Ron  They got into this very thing yesterday in  the Ebay thread. This link you posted is for slant top reels. They decided the lights could be moved, but I'm still wondering if you put a set of slant top reels in a upright machine and in key menu tell the upright it's now a slant top, will the reels line up on the pay line correctly. Guess if all else fails you can always off set the strips.
