Shopping my first machine and can't seem to clear the code 40 which the manual says is a failure to initialize reels after reset.  This is the only error code displayed.

At first, all 4 reels would spin continuously then after turning the key, the two outer ones stopped.

My next step is to try two other reels from another machine then do another clear.

Does this seem prudent or is there something else I should do?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I know nothing about these machines,  but maybe this thread will help since you said it is a 4 reel.

Did you check the personality chips to see if they are correct for your machine?  3 reel/4 reel

Where would I find them?  I read you mentioned that to someone else and was going to follow up this weekend.

Would a casino go through the trouble of changing chips before getting rid of it?

Thanks

If it was sold "parts complete", than yes, they would put any crap in it just to say it is complete.

U18 and U20 on the board

They often pull the chips or boards and can easily mix them up when getting ready for the sale.

I did the swap to no avail.  Same error 40.

I will check the U chips this weekend.

I also need to try to enable the printers if they have the 2003 chips as I have read.  If not, I need to figure out how to set machine to hand pay.  Unfortunately, after I got another machine working, I accidentally hit the cash out button with credits on it and it is looking to pay out from the non existing hopper.

Thanks for all of your help.  Very much appreciated.

Both the U18 and U20 have the casino security tape over them so I can make out the following information:

U20
E595011X-05    6890 ST
U20 CS:8D ??     03/04
1993 ???0556

U18
E595011X-0?  6890 ST
U18 CS:???? 03/04
1993 ???0556

Which line indicates the number of reels?

Looks like those might be the wrong chips for that game.  Unless you have a digit wrong that's a 3 reel game "Flaming 7's".  You have 2 of these machines right?....can you look at the other machine and it's board and get the numbers off those U18/20 chips?

Also, look at the sticker that's on the metal bracket of the reels.  There should be a hand written in number there under where it says "SMI"...this is a 4 digit number.

Once again the security tape made some digits illegable but here is what I could identify on the other machine which is now working (except for the printer):

U18
E796611X-05??? 9040
U18 27c25??? 12/08/00
2000

U20
E7??????????9040
U20 ???????? 12/08/00
2000? 0212

The SMI numbers on the "working" reels are 9040
The SMI numbers on the non-working reels are 9609, which obviously do not match the 6890 numbers on the other U20 AND U18 CHIPS.

Thanks

can you post a picture of the top payout glass for the non working machine and we will locate the software for you.  There are different versions of the same game with different payouts and multipliers, etc.

Chances are good that the SMI number off the reels on the non-working machine will lead us to the correct software, but I want to verify it with the PAR sheet and the payouts on your top glass.

5 Times Bonus Frenzy   y   9609   E820711X-05   BFR         92.01   25000   3CB
The above has a 5X, 25X and 10X multiplier on the 4th reel.

They were obviously the wrong chips.  You will need to obtain and install the correct chips then perform a SafeRam Clear...

Yes, game chips found but some of the sounds are not working, i.e. No sound during the frenzy spins.  Now I have to look at the sound chip and/or board but I could live with it.

Thanks for following up.

quite often the machines come from the casino with incorrect sound chips.  I think the techs aren't told to change the sound chips when doing a game change, perhaps due to how fragile they are on the pro sound 2 machines.

Thanks,
Wayne
