anyone have a procedure for bench testing the s6000 reels?  I have several to test before selling and thought bench testing would be a faster and better way to evaluate.

thanks

Stepper motors need a reel driver in order for them to turn.
The reel drivers are on MPU boards.
I really don't know how you can just apply power to the reel molex power pins without an MPU.

ADD>>>Found it but it's not easy....might be easier to physically to swap entire reels in a working machine>>>

If you take a 4 bit shift register, clock one bit around in it,
connect the 3rd bit to the input, and attatch 3 bits with a 1-3
ampere darlington transistor to the 3 coils, and the common to
something like 5 or 12 volt supply, shift the register with
something like 5 hz(or use a pushbutton),
you have a nice tester.
Swap two coil wires to reverse direction.
Oh and put 1 amp diodes across the coils to keep your transistors
from breaking down.

put them in a running machine, turn on the machine, if they don't initialize, then hold the change/service button , press the reset button (with door open of course), continue to hole for a few seconds until the reels begin to initialize.  you can then use the pseudo coin to test them.

Thanks,
Wayne

Thanks Wayne, that sure seems easy enough.
