I wanted to be able to change my wife's triple butterfly sevens from a .25 machine to a .01 machine and also change the payout odds. I was told I needed a keychip. Purchased one from a member here and installed it today.

Removed the Stepper Base U21 chip and replaced it with the Key00031 chip and powered the machine back up.

Top two amber LED's lit up

Powered down and put the U21 chip back in.

I still see the exact same Keychip config 1 and 2 options that I saw before I used the new Keychip.

1. Since I saw the same Keychip options before did I even need to buy a Keychip?

2. I have the Keychip config menu items on paper but for the life of me can't figure out which one to use to change the credits from .25 to .01 and also make the odds of a winning spin better. Can someone walk me through them step by step?

Thanks!

I think a clear is also required to change denomination or coin type.

Right guys?  I can't remember 5 minutes ago today.

So I should do a clear after the Keychip has been removed or while its in the machine?

Thanks!

Also, what menu item lets me change the coin type? I've looked at all of them and don't see it.

You should have no credits on the machine first and formost
Then you do a full clear with an IVC000223 or 224 chip (sorry but you need that as well)
Then put the base chip back in, go through the errors and then remove the base chip again and replace with the key chip (key 45)
wait for the 2 amber lights and power down, put base chip back in
It will come up to Menu 7 Key Chip Config
You have to look at and set the Accounting Denomination, player denomination, and base denomination........others can guide you here.
Then save the settings and you should be good to go
In your case, the base denomination should be 1 cent

I would think it would be.

7.1 Key Chip Config
7.1.1 Denomination
7.1.1.2 Coin Denomination

When I go here it says
Coin :  $0.01

But each credit is still worth $0.25 not $0.01 like I want.

Is this because this machine only accepts bills and not coins?

I am so lost...

What? I need a second chip in addition to the one I purchased? Crap,. Wish I would have known that before I spent my entire  Sunday afternoon trying to figure this out. I wish the member I purchased the Keychip from would have asked me if I needed the other chip as well. I'm not a happy camper right now and am pretty fed up with this machine. I guess it will just stay a .25 machine for a while.

Because you have to set the player and base denoms as well, they are only accessable with the key chip, once you exit that menu, you have to "key" it again if you made a mistake, this is part of the security. I assume that it's not a multi-denom machine so you should only have 1 option for the penny.

Well some on here say not to use the clear chip but it may be the only way to make sure there are no stray settings around. But you definitely can't key the machine if credits are on it

Now I've removed the Stepper Base chip so many times from the machine one of the connections is about to break off and I'm afraid to remove it again for fear of it snapping off and I'll have to take the machine out of comission until I can find a new one. My wife is frustrated because I cleared out the $2,000 we had on the machine for her to play and now all I have in my wallet to put into the machine is $2.

Not a great Sunday for me. I think I'll just go back to work on my arcade before I break something on this slot machine. Sad

The credits were cleared before I installed the Keychip.

Well, after removing the Stepper chip 10-12 times today to try and get this working the back two legs of the stepper chip broke off. I tried to insert it into the MB hoping the top part of the legs would still connect but no luck.

I called the guy I got the machine from and he said he does not have any more stepper chips so it looks like I am down for a bit while I try and figure out what to do.

My wife is not happy with me right now. I should have just left the machine alone before her party tonight. :-(

Thanks for the chat on the phone reho33. I think I'm going to check into using the option you told me about on the phone after i can locate another stepper base chip. My only problem is we don't have any windows machines, only Macs. ;-)

these directions might help ya out if you do a full clear....... yes

S2000 RAM CLEAR and KEY SET UP FOR HOME USE S2000

1)  Power the machine off.  Remove the coin tray.  Carefully remove the MPU board.

2)  Before handling the proms on the MPU, I like to ground myself by holding both hands onto the metal tray of the MPU for a few seconds.  Keep you wrists resting on the front frame of the tray while you work to insure you stay grounded and try not to move your feet around too much as you stand there.  Ideally we should all be using anti-static grounding cables tied to our wrists.

3)  Inspect and insure that the games Version, Game 1, and Game 2 to chips are installed in the proper orientation and fully seated.  Remove the SB (40 pin) chip and replace with your Clear Chip.

4)  Return the MPU to the machine and insure it is fully seated in the tray.  While leaving the door open for this step, power the machine on and keep your eye on the top 2 amber lights on the MPU board.  Once they turn on you should power your machine off.

5)  I like to repeat step 4 above 2 more times, power machine on, wait for lights, then power off.  This insures that everything fully clears off the board.  I have found that every once in awhile for some reason residual accounting information does not fully clear and causes problems later during set up.  This rare but I know it happens and was confirmed to me from the good people at Samron Slots.

6)  After powering the machine off, remove the MPU again, ground yourself, and replace the Clear Chip with your SB Chip.  Return it to the machine and while leaving the door open for this step power the machine on.  Notice on the door LED it should say "TESTING MEMORY" and soon after you should get an Alarm sound and a message that reads "RAM ERROR".  Turn your Reset Key (4) four times.  You should now have a message that says "PRESS TEST SWITCH FOR 2-3 SECONDS".  Proceed by pressing the small white button on the MPU for 3 seconds then release.  The message on the LED now reads "CLOSE MAIN DOOR".  Proceed and make sure the lever is pressed down with force to make sure it is fully seated.

7)  Door LED should now read "TESTING MEMORY".  When it is finished you should get a message that reads "CALL ATTENDANT".  At this point you should open the main door again.  You will immediately get an Alarm again.  Proceed, while keeping the door open, by turning the Reset Key (3) three times.  After a few moments the reels should spin and you should get a message that reads "MACHINE TYPE MISMATCH".  Power the machine down.

8)  After you power the machine down, remove the MPU again, ground yourself, and replace the SB chip with your Key Chip.  Return the MPU to the machine, fully seat, and while leaving the door open power the machine on.  Keep your eyes on the MPU lights and once the top 2 amber lights turn on, power the machine down.  Remove the MPU, ground yourself, replace the Key Chip with your SB Chip and return the board to the machine.  While leaving the door open, power the machine back on.  After the machine cycles, you should receive a message on the door LED that reads "7 KEY CHIP CONFIG".

As a preface to Key Chip set up on a machine, the SAS after a clear will default to "Standard Mode".  You have no reason to go into that set up and should avoid it.  In fact you will find that there are many settings with in the Key Chip set up that will already default to a desired mode and you can bypass most all settings.

Button control during Key Chip set up is as follows.  The Service/Change and Cash Out buttons are toggles for up and down through the menu selections.  The Spin Reels button is for Select.  And the Bet Max is for Enter or Confirm.

9)  Our first step is to establish the machines Accounting and Denomination.  Warning...once you establish the Accounting you cannot reduce it at a later date unless you repeat the Clear Chip process above.  Should have decided by now what denomination your machine will play.  Most will set for 25 cents.

Press the Spin Reels 4 times and the LED should read "Accounting".
Press the Spin Reels 1 more time and the toggle buttons should light up.
Press the Service button until the desired denomination shows...for example 25 cents.
Press the Bet Max 2 times.  Warning...there is no turning back at this point.

Press the Cash Out 1 time and the LED should read "Coin Denom"
Press the Spin Reels 2 Times.
Press the Service 1 time and the number reflected should equal your Accouting denomination....for example 25 cents.
Press Bet Max 2 times.

Press the Bet Max 1 more time and the LED should read "7.1.1 Denom".
Press the Cash Out 1 Time
Press the Spin Reels 1 Time
Press the Cash Out button until the desired game payout percentage is found.
Press the Bet Max 1 time to confirm.

Press the Cash Out 3 times and the LED should read "Machine Type"
Press the Spin Reels 1 time.
Press the Cash Out 1 time until the reads "Upright" or continue to toggle to find slant top if that is what you have.
Press the Bet Max 1 time to confirm.

Press the Cash Out 1 time and the LED should read "Token Payout"
Press the Spin Reels 1 time and you will be given the opportunity to enable or disable your hopper at this point.
If using a printer and not a hopper, then press the Service light 1 time so the LED reads "Disabled"
Press the Bet Max 1 time to confirm.

** Note if your machine is hopper based and not using a printer you are done with the Key Set up at this time.  Press the Bet Max 3 times, the machine will cycle, close door and you should be good to go.  If you are using a printer, proceed below.

Press the Bet Max 2 times to exit and the LED should read "7.1 Key Chip I Config".
Press the Cash Out 1 time and the LED should read "7.2 Key Chip II Config".
Press the Spin Reels 1 time.
Press the Cash Out 1 time and the LED should read "7.2.2 Printers".
Press the Spin Reels 2 times.
Press the Cash Out 1 time and the LED should read "Printer Enabled".
Press the Bet Max 2 times to confirm and return to the main menu.

Press Bet Max 2 more times to exit Key set up, the machine should cycle, close your door and you should be in business.

Play the game and test your hopper or printer for proper function.  You may at a later time press the test button on the MPU and go into other set ups like hopper/credit limits and machine volume.  Again avoid the SAS setup area as it should already be defaulted to Standard Mode.

Robert If your not confused by reading this thread I am.

Why don't we start with the first chore, the eprom you think the leg is getting ready to break off, Hope you have a soldering iron I use soldering flux and rosin core solder. just put a dab of flux on the leg heat it up then a dab of solder. If the leg isn't trying to break at the very top you will be good to go.  If it does break off let me know and it can be saved.

Now a couple of questions, does the machine have coin handling ? ( coin head and hopper )  You said you want to make it a Penny machine, why ? Is it so you will get 100 credits for a dollar ?Now were kind of stuck until you ans. about the coin handling. If your machine has a high numbered set of SG (game) chips and the blank plate next to the Max bet button. You can turn your machine into a multi denom machine all for the cost of one small button switch I'd say about 5 bucks.

Anytime you need to change any denom. settings you must do a full clear. If you don't have a clear chip were stuck until you get one. PM me your address and I'll mail you one tomorrow.

Reho You don't need zero credits to do a clear, the clear will wipe out any credits you had. You do need zero credits if all your doing is a Key.

OK, I stand corrected. I just had issues in the past trying to key a machine and having it say "Key Chip menu Access Failed". This is because I tried to key it with credits on the machine and that is a no-no. I don't want to add to the debate of clear/no clear as each person has their own approach and I don't want to mis-lead anyone.

Buzz,

1. The machine only accepts bill, no coins. Yes, I want a $1 to equal 100 credits.

2. It's already a multi domination machine. It currently has .25 .50 $1 and $2 (I'd like it to be .01 .50 $1 and $2 if possible).

I'l PM you my mailing address.

Thanks!

Help Help I have a idea that I'm not sure of and I don't have a multi denom machine thats working to test this on.

Do you have to do a full clear to change the multi denom ?? My idea being if his accounting is set at a penny (cross your fingers) and the multi denom can be changed with out a clear were in good shape.

Robert I think multi can be set at .01,.02,.03,.05,.10,.20,.25,.50. $1.00 on up

Coinless enabled locked all the limit menus and I believe sets them to $1000 from what I could tell.
It did allow me to leave the coin optics unplugged.
So for the home user it might not be the best option.

 Agree with Post

the issue is going to be the accounting denom.  once it's set you can't change it without a full clear with the clear chip.  hissy fit
once you have the accounting denom at 1ยข you can make your player denoms whatever you want.  the coin denom won't matter since there is no coin handling, i'd probably just set it at 1ยข also. yes
you could enable coinless mode if you want, i think all it will affect is your hopper limit option will just read "coinless mode enabled" or something like that.  the other limits should still be able to be modified as high as you want up to the hardcoded max - i think its $10,000.00 for credit and $3000.00 for bill acceptor.
the keychip menu is always viewable but you have to use the keychip in order to make any changes to the settings in the keychip menu. lightning bolt
breaking the legs off of chips can be repaired as Buzz suggested, it's not an easy fix; especially if the leg broke up high.  i suggest picking up a few "piggyback" eprom sockets and putting your chips in them, then if you break a leg off you just put a new socket on the chip.  i think Happ sells them for a pretty low price, here's a link - http://happcontrols.com/electrical_supplies/61000600.htm
hope it helps!
