Give details on the tricks

Well Foster,

First make a backup of the OEM chip. Note the size of the chip first don't assume. should in most cases be a AM29F040B or possibly a 010

Get a copy of a good Hex Editor. I used HxD free. Worked great

You can get by with out the Hex editor and just use your Burner software but then you need to enter the messages in code. Pain!!!!

So, so far you read the chip in your burner, Save the file as the OEM

Next load the HxD program and the OEM file you just saved

To edit the main flashing message at the bottom of the display, look for address 19A0h
Just type over the message there with your new one. Just don't exceed the characters limit

To change the message when you insert a card look at address 1900h
Replace the words "REINSERT" with your new message, keep it short !

Thanks

I was figuring it was going to be a bit harder
like having HxD re-calculate a checksum in the chip

Have you ever got it to read the players name from the card and display it?

Next is the scrolling message, it is located at address 6170h

This message can be long and scrolls. Took a while to find as everyone told me I was looking for code. It is there in plain text @ 6170h

If you have no messages at these addresses then you may have a encrypted chip. Then you require a base file to start with.

If you make your messages too big the file will not run

Save your file as a new name and burn it back to the OEM chip after erasing it. They are flash chips and your programmer erase function will erase it.

That was it!

Bottom line...

You do not need to look for code

The message is there in plain readable text or not!

If it is not at addresses 1900h 19a0h and 6170h...STOP!!!!

You do need a Hex Editor to make it real easy to enter your new message in real letters not code ..use HxD

Save you edited file and burn it back to the chip.

If you get an error go back and shorten the message

Do not start entering the message before the first letter of the current message

Do not use backspace if you make a mistake,,,start over

NO!

That would require the casino backend mainframe. Out of my toy budget !!

It will simply see a card inserted (any card) and in place of the error message "REINSERT" because it does not recognize the card it will display the new erro message "WELCOME FOSTER!" for any card installed!

I figure they use one track on the magnetic strip
I figured the name and member number are in that track.

I am sure they do too! but you need that magic mainframe to bring it all together. Why don't they sell those cheap like the slot machines when upgrading to newer stuff??  Scratch Head Scratch Head Scratch Head

I heard the casinos pay monthly royalties for the player tracking software and back room system.

This thread is also worth a look, although it's about the Mastercom 220:
