ok im changing my splus from a wild cherry to a double red white and blue. do i need to change the game chip along with the reel chip?

They are both type 0 so all you have to change is the reel chip. 

If you open up the IGT On Line Game Bible found on home page, about half down on right side. First pick the number of coins your game is, then pick the game you have.  Now on this opened page you can see the type game you have and on the left you will see all the SS chips for this game and their pay percentages.

The SP (game ) chip is most times  used in more than one type game. Example SP1271 is a type 0, 1, 4, 5, 19 on a 10 MHz board.

ah ok now im starting to understand. but thank you very much,i was told i needed the game change also from the guy i bought them from on ebay.

ok after alot more reading on here i just found out that reel strips are different between slant tops and stand ups. so can i use the reels strips and if so how do i install them?

Not TRUE   IGT use different reels for slant tops, the reel strips are the same.
