adaptor for GQ-4X

Anyone know what adapter for sound chip - clam type - for Bally 6000?
Burner is a GQ-4X. from MCUMALL.

It looks right, and that adapter will work with the GQ-4X, but don't take my word for it since I don't own any of those chips.

If you know the chip number (i.e., the chip type (e.g., 29LV400), not the Bally info) you can select it in the GQ-4X software and the program will automatically tell you exactly which model adapter is needed. That's how I was able to check to see if the ADP-003 was the right one for the 4X.

One of our vendors would probably know what model number chip is used.

The stamping on chip is that small I can't make all out with help of magnifying glass.

I opened the GQ-4X software, put in 529gl064 and got nothing. So I tried just 064 and voila! I found "S29GL064N90TFI040". (I'd have tried gl064 if 064 had given me too many results.) I selected it and the program said that it uses the ADP-003 with MOD1. The programmer software tells you what jumper to change on the adapter and even gives you a link to a picture of the mod.

I suspect that the "...w11???" being different from "...n90???" might be the speed of the chip, but don't quote me.



<ADD> ...On second thought, that mod looks nasty.    Once done the adapter won't be good for any other type of chip.

Ford, I told you I have that adapter...but the chips when you can find them are $15 to $20 each. If you just want to back them up to a file for safe keeping I can help you there  , But I have no blanks 

The mod on that adapter is not bad at all. You cut one trace and solder one jumper wire. To switch it back if you ever needed to do so, remove the wire and solder the trace shut.

I beg to differ. That adapter costs $45. Cutting a trace and soldering a wire is a kludge and inexcusable. They should have built in a jumper.

It's all well enough if the buyer only expects to use the adapter for every other type of TSOP and not for the one Ford posted, or if the buyer intends to use it only for the chip Ford posted and for no others, but can you really expect someone to keep trying to modify that board back and forth for the two different types of TSOP chips?! Would you like to have to do a mod like this every time you had to switch between burning a 27C512 and a 27C010, for example?

Would you consider it fair to have to buy two and spend $90 if you really needed both versions on a regular basis?

I'm not even sure if that's the only mod since the link to the picture didn't come from the web page advertising the adapter, but rather from the programmer software AFTER selecting the specific chip. Anyone care to try selecting every single chip that uses that adapter to see if there are other mods necessary?

Even if that turns out to be the only mod, if I were paying $45 for an adapter I'd expect better, and if I had to do the mod myself, I'd put in jumpers or a switch so that I could change back and forth without ever having to pick up a soldering iron and an Exacto knife again. However, I shouldn't have to be that creative; that was supposed to have been THEIR job. 


Ford, if you don't expect to need the adapter for any other type of TSOP chip, then as Coors said, it's a simple mod to do once. My rant is aimed at MCUmall for their piss-poor design and not intended to dissuade you from buying the adapter if it will suit your purpose.
