Bally E-2000 error help

Hello, I just acquired a Bally E-2091-200 quarter slot machine. I would like to get it going, but  not sure what's wrong. When I turn it on, all the lights come on and instantly has a code on the display (_6 . . . 0.6.) the first digit is blank, and the reels don't spin.  Nothing happens when I push the test button and nothing seems to happen when I push the reset button, except sometimes it sounds like  when I power it up(solenoids clicking and a bell).   I have  checked the battery on the board and it reads 4.0volts and I'm not sure what to do next. If anyone   Could help it would be greatly appreciated.

Here is the Bally error codes.
Code 6 on start up looks like a memory code.
Barry (Foxsslots) is the resident expert, he can tell you for sure
and will probably have the parts you need.

Thanks for the reply, I've done a little reading and thought that it was supposed to have some boot sequence on the display, just that code instantly. I was reading your error code sheet and it says for the memory code, the last digit is 6 with no other numbers displayed for one second, followed by the memory chip number at the front of display. Any ideas?

you have a power problem - check the connections at the power supply - remove the reel mechanism from the machine and then power the machine back up.

Thanks for responding. Ok, I checked the power connections, unplugged, inspected, and reconnected. Pulled the reel mech, powered up, and still get the same thing on the display. First digit is blank then 6 . . .6. And sometimes 6 . . 0.6. And the first digit always blank.

check the dc voltages at the test loops on the power supply - make sure the power supply connector is not burnt especially the bottom 2 wires.  did you check your fuses at the fuse block.

Yes, the fuses are good, but I need a few new caps. The tabs are broke and they won't lock, but are making connection. I have even held them to make sure and get the same thing. Where are the test loops and what voltage am I looking for?  I'm pretty good with electronics, if you have a wiring diagram that shows what to test, or troubleshooting steps that would be awesome.

Ok, I have tested the power supply board and I get 4.9 volts DC from tp1 to ground, 7.4 bolts DC from tp2 to ground, and 10.39 volts DC from tp4 to ground.  Now I know some boards have actual test points, but they are not on this one. I tested the wires at the back of the connector plug corresponding to the test points one the chart posted, and for test point 4, tested at each terminal on connector shown in chart. All seems to be ok, what is my next step?

I found this ribbon cable that connects two circuit boards and checked the connections and found that one side has all the pins, and the other is missing two pins.  Is this supposed to be that way?  The ribbon cable to the display board is missing a pin too.  I will post pics.

Sweet, now the next question is, does anybody have these cables? I have looked online for Bally E2000 parts and can't find many.

Thanks, I had found it after my post by looking up gallery of slots from Barry's signature and have already ordered. I am waiting for them and anxious to see if this thing works after I replace the cables.

hello again... ok, I received the cables (Thank You Barry!) and have replaced them.  I am still getting a code instantly upon power up, but now the first digit is functioning.  so the code is 76 . . . 6

any idea what this one means? I have checked all the other connections and they seem to be ok.

usually a cmos error - the 5101 ics are on the mpu board - try reseating them

Im not too familiar with which board is what, but im assuming the mpu board is the one with M1, M2, M3, P1, & P2 chips.  I pulled all of those and checked the pins and reseated.  There is no chip in P2, not sure if there's supposed to be. still get same code.  Is it possible the chips or board are bad?

5101s are to the right of the battery.

Ok, I pulled those two, cleaned the pins for better connection, and reseated. Still the same. Should I try a new board?

check the battery as well -  next take the P1 prom out of the game and power it up - see if you get 654321 displaying.

ok, i checked the battery again and get 4.03 volts dc, even with unit unplugged.  removed P1 prom and powered up, get same code.  Removed M1 prom and powered up, got buzzing from hopper area and display said "_ . . . . 6"
removed M2 prom and powered up, display said "7 . . . 66"  removed M3 prom and powered up, got the same original display "76 . . 06"

you went past my instructions - but it sounds like you have bad 5101 cmos
