Hello, I am a bit of a novice here so I am just going to spout out as much info as I can in hope something might help someone help me.

Ballys S5500 Stars and Bars 1992-1993 w/bill collector

Have ProSlot Opperators manual for FO-5020 Rev B

The machine did work fine for about 8 years. It is in very good condition. We are not selling it or making any money off of it, its just for private use.

Error:
O-6 appears in Win Paid LCD Panel
Under Credit LCD Panel is shows four dots "...."
Service lights arent on
Lights on machine all work
Hopper Works
When powered on the reels do now move and I immediately get the error above

If anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it. I have been all over the internet and made phone calls but cant find an help or a solution.

Sincerely,
Jason

WOW!!! I have never seen that and I have worked on and restored a BUNCH of 5500's.  Is the RED reset LED on the face of the MPU on???

I didnt see any reference of a ramclear.  Did you try that?  I think Mr. Dinoman is asking the mains type because his next suggestion is going to be a ram clear.  If you have 92 series your in luck  If not, GET THEM!!! For that age machine and in the manner you are using it you dont need anything else.

I just wish I knew more so I didnt have to keep asking dumb questions like "what/where is the mains, or mains type" I am at work now but will look this up when I get back this evening.

Thanks for any help you can provide as well. I really appreciate you guys helpping out a perfect stranger.

Open the slot door and you should see a metal tray with some push buttons and a red LED...That is the MPU board...With the POWER OFF, pull out the tray and you will see the MPU board... It should look like the one in the photo( in this photo, the chips are not there-those are the chips with numbers we are looking for)...there should be to large chips with tags and numbers on them...Photo those or let us know what they say...

Hopefully this gives you what you needed from the MPU board.

BTW Slotman, the RED LED reset light is NOT lit. I have not tried a RAM Clear

That is good.  Do you have a module 2 manual for that machine?  It details on how to do a ram clear.  At this point that seems to be the only option.  I have attached a saferam clear procedure

He states he's been using the machine for 8 years. Might he need to check the cmos battery first?

I thought about that but there has been times that I have stuck a board in with the battery totally taken out (I remove them before storage) and popped a board in and of course got the "81" error.  The error is initiated at 2.5V on the 5500 so I would think he would have gotten the 81 error.

Considering that the majority of options on the 5500 is set via dip switches I dont mind telling people to do a ram clear.  Now an IGT, whole different story.  Throw the clear chips away.

Just thought I'd throw it out there given the amount of time and the 5500s propencity for killing batteries. Might be prudent to check it anyway before he clears it. Might save some hassle down the road. Do the 5500s require a external keypad for programming after a clear?

I agree with definitely checking it.  No keypad required.  DBV is controlled from dips as is denomination so a clear is pretty harmless.

Ok, so it sounds like I am checking the " cmos battery" first...right?
If so, what do I need in order to do that? (voltage meter?) I dont know where the cmos is or what it looks like.
Again sorry for being so clueless, your patience is appreciated.

I agree about the CMOS battery, but I think he should try the Ram clear first since this is the main issue...Then if he get the machine working and the error 81 comes up, we will know that is should have cleared the 0-6 error and now he can proceed with changing the battery...At least he will know how to clear the ram...Lets try and get rid of that 0-6

Exactly the same road I was leading.  Like I said, a ram clear on a 5500 is probably the most painless.  You probably will not even have to change any options back either.  If you notice something like the handle not clicking or the hopper paying out when it shouldnt we will address that later but for now:

Clear it!!! Hopefully the 0-6 goes away.

If it doesnt and you are forced to get a new board I can supply one with the SMI you need already installed and new battery.  It would be plug and play.

I think you will not need it though.

BTW: Go to www.rudysdeals.com and download you a module 2 manual for that machine.  I would give you one but driving traffic to his site helps him out.  If you need anything from the other modules let me know.

Oh, another thing.  Karma never hurts either!!!!
