We all got into a 40 page argument discussion over this last month.... rotflmao
I'm staying outta this one!

Okay, I can't... bust gut laughing

I'd say...if you can afford the light bill....leave it on!
If you're an eco guy...why waste electricity?
The machine can handle either move.

Ya, With a Summit, turn it off.
It will only be a matter of time before it won't turn back on.  Tongue Out

If I can chime in on this from a purely electrical perspective with an electronics background.  I say leave it on.  Heres why:

Have you ever seen a light bulb blow out while it is on?  Probably not, you saw it pop when you flicked the switch on.  A byproduct of inrush current on a resistive load.

Lets look at inrush on a inductive load (transformers) for a split second or 180 degrees of a 360 degree rotation there can possibly be up to 6 times the rated current in inrush.  Believe it or not this flexes wire, traces and associated equipment.  Granted there will be capacitors all over a machine that will absorb and distribute this but why chance it.

Lets look at something else, on a CRT monitor there is typically a degaussing coil that is built in to run upon startup.  That is a coil designed to create a magnetic field.  There is the "remote" possibility of this coil inducing current in another part of the machine if there is a equal potential between two different planes.

Now some will argue that power supplys are not like they used to be because they are mostly switching supplys which will handle inrush and turning on and off without much problem but there is still a lot of machines out there that still utilize a core and coil transformer which isnt as resilient.

Think about this, how many of us have left a machine on and noticed that it died while running????  It usually doesnt start up after it has been turned off.  With these machines properly ventilated and designed for 24-7 year round use I say:

WHY CHANCE IT!!!

Just my 2cents

I agree with both sides of this topic and I will give you a karma for the excellent post too!  applause

The flip side of this is heat.
Heat is bad for electronics and IC components have a "End Life" - they don't last forever.
The ventilation systems are as cheap as they come with these machines.
They want to move them out after time and replace them with new models and games on the floor.
A company doesn't make money having a workhorse like the S+ on the floors anymore.

On my homemade cabinets, I've made the opening larger on the backside
of the machine with larger vent covers to let the heat out coupled with larger fans that move more CFM of air.

We might as well talk about the abortion issue when it comes to leaving a slot machine on or off.  Tongue Out

i been turning my machines on and off for over 2 years using the switch in the machines NOT A POWER PLUG SWITCH..... and never had a electrical issue they fire right up.......i would not leave them on 24/7, how bad would it suck if you went on vaca and came back seeing your house burnt down cuz of a slot machine overheating and starting a electrical fire....... why chance that......plus the heat they give out.... i only have 2 slots and a 60 inch tv in my room and when everything is on it feels like a sauna lol

Me and 20 years of electronics experience are agreeing with Bunker. The heat generated by being on all the time is worse than the risk of turning them off each day. Best bet is to turn them on when you're gonna use them that day and off before bed.
