Oh no!  What have I done?

BV starts and cycles on startup like it's always done.
$20 bill goes in, BV thinks about it, deal lights blink, and then it spits it back out.

IGT Player's Edge Plus video poker
DBV 200-SS
ID 022/023
Version 2.33

After swapping MPU's recently as part of my progressive project, I had to enable the BV using SET038.  That worked, but only for $1.  So, I enabled again using SET004, but again, only $1.

So, I tried the steps outlined at ...

http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=14816.0

... by first turning dip switch # 10 to ON and then OFF again.

Then, trying dip switch # 6 in the second bank ON while the machine was off, turning the machine back on, turning dip switch # 6 back OFF, which caused the BV to cycle very briefly.  This seemed to work in so much that the BV would now accepts all bills and spit them out the back.  But, as soon as I plugged it back into the transport, the bills get rejected again.

Is it possible I fried something during the progressive project?  Help please!

I'm assuming it worked before. And I'm also assuming all of the other dip switches on the head are off.

I have no idea about the video poker, but perhaps one of your limits is set wrong?? That would let it take the bill long enough to read it and see if it would put it over the limit and then reject it if it does.

Assumptions are correct!  I should have included that info too.

Yeah, I checked my Bill Limit Size and it was set to 3999 to match the Hopper Size.

Although I still don't have it working, I was able to get a hold of the DBV-200 manual and it's got a lot of troubleshooting steps in it, including the ones included on the other posts.  So, I'll give a try tomorrow (before the Super Bowl) and see what happens.

Go Giants!  Although I have total respect for the Pats.  I'm just cheering Giants because the payouts are better in Las Vegas.

IMO since it worked before and passed the dip switch #6 test, then the problem has to be in your game setup somewhere. As I noted above I know nothing about the video poker machines, but it there possibly a separate setting that tells it what bills to accept (other then the dip switches in the head)?

+1 (Karma, or whatever) for the quick replies!  Really appreciate the assistance.

What you said makes total sense.  I went through all the screens and double-checked the settings.  I even performed the test where the bill goes through the BV and into the the box, which worked great.  I even left that setting on to see if it would work.  The bill goes in, but no credits are registered because it's in test mode.  So, I set the dip switch back and the bill gets rejected.

*sigh* This is horrible without a BV.  I finally have a progressive, but no way to really add credits except one quarter at a time.  And my CC only has about a 90% rate, so even that's painful.

I thought you said it would take $1 bills.  Scratch Head If so, maybe you can change the denomination to $.01 to give 100 credits per dollar.

Yeah, I might just have to resort to that.  I PM'd the guy who also had this problem back in September and see he was never able to fix it.  He's just going to replace the BV.

There are quite a few techs in town (as you can imagine), so maybe one of them has a VM-401 that can test it or calibration paper.  I have to believe this thing is recoverable.

Thanks again for the replies.

I found this in a document for the PE Plus

Bill Rejection
Feature   Bills will be rejected if any of the following conditions occur:  if the game denomination is higher than the bill denomination, if the bill inserted is not a multiple of the game denomination, or if the credit value of the accepted bill plus any credits on the game exceed the bill credit limit that is set in the self test mode.

Bill Credit Limit   This page is displayed only if the bill acceptor is enabled with the set-chip.  Select the maximum credits that can be accumulated before the bill acceptor is disabled.  The limit must be less than the max hopper size or $2,500, whichever is less.

In any case, you might have better luck posting in the PE section as I still don't think it's a BV issue if it passes the self test.

The on-screen instructions includes the same text.  I set the hopper size to 3999 and the max bill size to 3998, then tried max bill size of 3000 as well, but still only takes $1.

Here are all of the pages available when there are no credits are in the machine.

Pages 1 - 3 are input, output and hopper tests.  BV input/output tests pass.
Page 4 is to set the progressive. All use Progress # 1.
Page 5 is Sound option, which is on.
Page 6 is Credit Type, which I have set to Credit.  This allows credits to accumulate as opposed to returning coins.
Page 7 is Autobet, so you can play 5 coins again just by hitting Deal.
Page 8 is Demonination, which is set by SET004/SET038 and is set to 25 cents.
Page 9 is Max Coins In, which is set to 5.  You can set the machine up to as many as a 20-coin play.
Page 10 is Machine Address, which is 0.
Page 11 is Hopper Size, which is 3999.
[EDIT] - Oops!  Forgot Max Bill Size, which is set to 3998.
Page 12 - 18 are screen colors, video tests, dot/grid pattern.
Page 19 is Attract Option, which is set to Animation.
Page 20 is No Double-Up, just because I find that annoying.
Page 21 is Out-of-Service message.

I read in another post that the clear chip fixed a similar problem.  Ironically, I got 4-of-a-kind on 4 of the 5 games, including 4 deuces, so I have now over 1,000 credits on the machine.  Before I attempt to clear anything, I've got enough credits to keep me busy for a while.   yes

When I run out of the credits, I might try my clear chip and demon chip again.

This is a common problem in both the PE+ and S+
You noted in your first post that the chipset is looking for: ID 022/023

The bill validator also needs to be set for ID 22/23 and I suspect yours is set for ID 21.
When this is mismatched it will only accept $1.00 bills.

IF you have a dbv 200 manual it will tell you which dip switches on the validator to set.

FWIW, He said he tried changing dip switch #10 in the first post. And he said it worked before he messed with the progressive setup. But ya never know.

<edit> I assume ID 21 is a typo as it would be 22 (on) or 23 (off).

Thanks Jay,
I was having the same issue and had been watching this thread.
Just flipped on my #10 and it now takes all the billis.
I knew my transport was good and the head was good, Just glad you mention the I/D 22 / 23 setting for the PE+

K+ to you.

Believe it or not, I burned up the 1000+ credits, so I decided to use the clear chip (I know that's not recommended, but I was desperate and a little liquored up), used the set demon chip and tried again, but no luck.

I have a DBV-200 B023, which, according to the manual, means I have a DBV-200, B Tray Type, 200 SS type Flash, and ID of 022/023.
This also means I should have no dip switches on.
I never even knew the BV had dip switches until today.
Nevertheless, I tried ...

  • dip switch # 10 to change from 23 to 22.
  • dip switch # 9 to change from 23 to 23B.
  • Bill Registry without Stacker test - passed all bills.
  • Bill Registry with Stacker test - passed all bills (unexpected, isn't it?).

I sent an e-mail to BR549 Auto Sales, who had the exact same problem as outlined in http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=14816.0
He replied and said he was never able to get it to work either.
What's ironic, is his problem also started right after he made his machine progressive, just like me.

I don't know if maybe I am using the wrong power supply, if I bumped something inside the machine?

I also tried setting my MPU dip switches back to all off and disconnected the progressive before I did the clear/demon reset.

Everything is back to the way it was before I started the progressive project.

Hail  I can't thank you all enough for trying to help.  This is really a head-scratcher.   Scratch Head

Okay, this completely doesn't make sense to me.

Just for the heck of it, I went back to the machine, turned ON dip switch # 10, turned on the machine, and guess what ... it worked!

I have no idea why, but now my BV is taking bills.  I tried this several times earlier today and it didn't work.  The only thing I can think of is I must have been setting the dip switch while the power was on.  In other words, the machine was off, but the power supply still had power.  It wasn't until I turned off my power strip to shut everything off that it worked.

THANK YOU!!!

Not sure if you had been doing this before or not, but you must power down the machine after you change any of the BV head dip switches for the changes to take effect.
