A while back I had a problem with my comparitor in an Ultra. Intermittent error 23, or "coin yo-yo bounce".
I found the problem. It was the adjustable guide that funnels the coin through. If the comparitor had been set for a larger coin previously than the guide opening is too large and the coin can bounce side to side on it's way down creating this error. See the pics below on how to properly adjust your comparitor.

This is the same Comparitor that is used in the Bally V7000 GameMaker, and the post applies equally to that machine. The error in the case of the Bally is "Reverse Coin", but it's the same thing, and the adjustment works; I've done it in the past. It is also necessary when changing coin size. Thanks for posting Uniman. applause
