Bally 1080 resets?? in Win meter display

Hi looking for some help...

My 1080 nickle machine is working find but after it's on for awhile I hear a relay or two click on and the Win Meter displays goes from 50 000 to 50 .0.00  it will stay this way until I insert a coin pull the handle. The complete Service manual for Series E 1980-1986 page 4 reads "THE CENTER TWO DECIMAL POINTS INDICATE A REST(POWER OFF, STATIC DISCHARGE ETC.) OCCURRED SINCE THE LAST HANDLE PULL.
My question is what would cause this and what can I do to correct it.
Is it possible a power supply going bad? The voltages are within range.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Ray...  Have you check the condition of the power cord? Everyone of these machine I pick up the cords are distroyed since they come out the bottom of the machine. The other thing I would do it check to make sure you have a good ground connection inside. You could check your power supply's voltage on start up, and then again after its been on for awhile to see if they change?

Thanks! Man, you were right on  I pull the cord for underneath the machine and see that it's torn up pretty bad. You would think they would have some kind of protected sleeve or something. I see that it has a connector and the end. So what's the way do you recommend for replacing the cord ? cut before the connector and then solder and shrink tube the wires or some kind of crimped connectors ?

I've fixed them both ways by cutting and resoldering and by using a good crimp connector. That's usually one of the first repairs I do to those old Ballys before any thing else. Keep us posted on how it doing.
