LCD hookup, will this work?

Hi,

Got a LCD monitor from a friend of me today, with 3M touch controller.
I'm planning to hook it up to my WMS 550, but got 3 questions.

1. It doesn't have a power cord port or anything else that I can use to get current from
2. I think it gets power in the same cable data comes with, is that normal?
3. If that (2) is the case, how can I test if my power supply can handle it? (or will a fuse be blown?)

Added a picture, don't know brand etc. only that I removed it out of another (not WMS) bingo machine.
Hopefully this works and hopefully someone can help me !

The Touch screen controller doesnt use much power, only about 100ma. I would power it with the same power supply as the lcd. Make sure the T/S controller has WMS firmware on it or it wont work at all.

Don't think you will get power for the screen just by hooking up a cable on the DB15 connector. Looks like A power connector(the small black housing) to the right of it.   Most screens I see are 12volt in and if that is the case and you grab 12v machine power it should be able to handle it but you are pushing the max with the machine 12v supply. If things work out,for the long term I would suggest one of the small power supplies 110 to 12v 4-5 amp and use the plug inside the machine.

The two pin header next to the vga port looks like power to me.  And yes, you can use your old touch screen controller.  Look for markings of Plus/Minus on the connector, if you reverse them, you could fry the circuit.  Do you have access to the machine that had this monitor originally, you could then trace the power to see what was plus and what was minus.  It's probably 12 volts.  The wms power supply has a 12 volt lead, but it doesn't supply enougn current to drive a typical LCD monitor.  I recommend you find a 12 volt power supply with around 3 amps on it, then power the Touchscreen controller and the lcd off it.  On most of these assemblies, the touchscreen controller already taps power from the monitor's supply.

Found some data sheets, and Rick, you're right, it said it was 12 volts!

You could give it a try, but if you just want to make sure, you could just remove the two screws from the MicroTouch controller case. You will find a PCB inside which is the actual controller.  Just remove all the cables attached to it and transplant the one off your WMS Monitor.  Like I said, the existing controller might work, but the only way to find out is to try.  I have a couple of touchscreens I got off e-bay a while back and their controllers were compatible with my WMS unit.  If you are going to hook this up you could do it a couple of ways.

1.  Wire up only the touchscreen part into the backplane with a harness, you should only need to wire about 3 cables if memory serves me right (TX, RX, GND).  Then just use a male to male DB-15H to connect the monitor to the 550's MPU board.  Then provide the 12 volts to the monitor which should in turn power the touchscreen (this is the case with most gaming touchscreen integrations).  And you are done.

2.  You could wire everything except the power to the monitor into the existing 20 pin molex that plugs into the buttom of the CRT assembly.  Then just plug the 12 volt power supply to the monitor.  This is the way I did it when I tested the touchscreen.   I had originally taken 12 volts from the 550's power supply for the monitor, but then the game started doing weird things as the current drawn by the monitor was chocking the power supply.  So I just switched it to an external power supply and that solved the problem.  I should point out that on the "professional" LCD kits made by companies like ceronix, they do use their own power supply for the monitor.
