Since 2007 the Gaming Standards Association has been claiming that G2S will kills SAS.  SAS seem to survive at least for now. If you are interested in learning more about G2S you can have a look at radblue.com. Register as a student and they will send you licenses for their three apps. One simulates the machine side, one the system side similar to SAS host. And a very uniques protocol analyzer.

As it uses XML it might be a bit easier to implement than SAS.

Its quite a bit more difficult than SAS to implement and will likely never replace SAS.
