Problems of Inverted or Upside Down Picture on the 1492 Monitor

 Often, on the 1492 CRT,  a monitor or chassis change results in the picture being inside out or upside down. (pic1-inverted) This was the fix for me as I had both conditions when I put in a new chassis.;  follow the 4 wires from the yoke to the board connector (pic 2) If upside down, swap the 1st 2 wires; if inverted, swap the last 2 wires. The picture should now be correct. Push out the wire pins using a paper clip if you don't have a compressor tool; there is a little tab that sticks out on each pin holding it in; you may have to pull that little "v" out a tad when putting it back in so it grabs and does not come out.

Reverse The red and blue on the yoke plug

Ok guys. I swapped the first two wires (red with blue). Put it back in, turned it on........upside down AND inverted. Switched back blue & red, switched the other two. Put back in, turned it on...........right side up, BUT inverted   Going to try switching the red & blue wire, leave the other two and hope this does the trick. If this doesn't do it............switching back all the wires & doing the 180 tube turn over.

Wasn't that a song from Crash Test Dummies? Mmmm,  mmmmm,  mmmm....... once........ there was this slot machine. No? ok. Anyway, yes that did fix the inverted problem. Quick question. If the burn in was there before(payouts) and now my cards are there and the burn in is showing through, will the cards eventually over burn(?) making the previous burn less obvious? Also cowboygames said something about rotating the yolk? If I were to have done that, wouldn't the colors get all screwed up? Kinda like my questions? Thanks for your help guys, I really appreciated it. Karma to all.

Burn in takes time and you may not have it on enough to overlap the old burns any time soon. As far as the colors go, they are generated by the guns inside the neck of the crt and won't be affected by a rotation of the yoke because they don't rotate with it.

Ok, now a picture color question. What color background does a PE+ have    All the pictures I've seen of a PE+ have a blue background. Mine is black. Could changing the wires around have anything to do with it? Could the screen voltage be set up too high or low? I vaguely remember my dad telling me that the color would change with increased high voltage. He did TV repair for over 40 years and often tried to teach me different things about electronics, obviously that was a fail Although I was pretty good at tube checking and, oh yes, removing the high voltage lead off of picture tubes to be replaced.............I think that was part of the lesson learning or he just thought it would be funny to watch me get zapped Anyway, answers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Still cleaning and fine tuning this unit.

If I recall correctly, the default is actually 0, 0, 2   (R, G, B)

Seriously, they must have wanted to use a single byte to carry the color intensity information. Since they only had 8 bits to work with, they decided to use them as 3x3x2 for RGB. Maybe they picked blue to have fewer levels of brightness because they figured that most operators would just want full blue as the default color and wouldn't need to adjust it as carefully as the others.

What I've learned from reading this basically you guys should be stand up comedians....
Actually, it's amazing how the picture gets flipped all kinds of ways by putting the wires into that connector differently.
I learned that when trying to get an LCD convertor to work with a PE+.
BTW I never did get it to work but that's another story and 150 post thread...
