Ok, Im guessing you have an IGT S+ machine.

The 3100 error is just an Extra Coin Out, which is cleared by simply opening and closing the door. It means an extra coin was paid out of the hopper. Happens occasionally, but let us know if it keeps occurring.

The key on the side of the machine WILL NEVER clear an error. It is a Jackpot Key. If it is turned at the inappropriate time (which is any time there is NOT a jackpot that requires a handpay), like in this instance, then it will take you into the program menu of the machine. I'm guessing the display is still showing the 1 1 2853, or maybe something else now, if you've turned the key more. Once you are in the menu, like you are now, you need to advance through to the last page to exit the menu. Continue turning the key, SLOWLY, until the display blanks and then returns to the 3100.

On the coin comparator, we will need pics to determine if the one from the "older machine" will work in this machine. We have no way of knowing what kind of machine you took it from and if it can be used in your current machine.

Snap a couple pics for us and we'll have you back up and running.
