So with 3902, game sets can be created, backed up, restored if a chip is damaged, etc.  044 on the other hand, is flashed to the board, so in other words, if the board is zapped, a user would need to replace the entire board to get their game back?  That seems pretty expensive for a home user.  While 044 games are cool, seems like 3902 might be a better solution in terms of preservation right?

Jason  Can you believe that I'm going to disagree with Roz and Steve. All I have to ask is was that 044 manufactured with the game installed on it or at some point someone programme that board ?? Kind of a no brainer isn't it, your 044 takes a dump, you send it to someone that can flash the board and your back up and running. If you want to do it yourself here's a link. $2350 and you don't have to depend on anyone.
