Point taken, I also looked at an IGT that needed a motherboard for 150 should I steer clear of that as well?

IGT is a good machine. Is it a S+ or a 2000. S+ does not have speakers on side of top box. 2000 has speakers on each side of top box.
2000 is a newer machine.

Do it....there's nothing in that machine you can't fix! Most expensive part is MPU and that's like $50-60! Then you will have a $500 machine. Wow....this is like that show "a property Ladders"...only we are "Slot Ladders"!!

Red White and Blue is a popular theme, too -- you'll have no trouble selling it when the time comes.  Buy it for $150.

Well I picked it up for 125 and they had the key for the door and the manual, but we couldn't get the door open. When I loaded it in the truck a ton of change fell all over the place inside so I can't wait to see how much my first jackpot is. We turned it on and it lit up and showed credits, but wouldn't spin. She told me it works intermittently. They also replaced the coin mechanisms recently.

I wouldn't turn it on till you get it open.
Loose change in a machine has burned up many a board.
You will turn the back key on the door and then lift up on the button to open.

Well it's home and the good news... After getting the lock drilled out because they didn't have the key, there was about 20-30 dollars in the hopper.
Now for the bad it shows error 61. When I reset  the switch on the side( I have to pull the wires and touch them as there is no key here either) then close the door it shows 0 credits and when I hit buttons the credits jump around, and the winner paid says 50. Then all screens go to 999999999 then it pretty much says 61 again.??
Also the coin mechanism doesn't allow quarters down the slot, I am hoping it can be adjusted.
Also there is a little light on the coin mechanism, should this be lit?

Thanks for any help

Okay, I'm moving this off to the S+ section.

Mike: don't turn the jackpot reset key unless we've told you to, until you know more about your machine.  It is not the "fix everything" keyswitch, and generally is only used to resolve a couple of different specific situations.

61 is a very common error.  Before we address that, though, you need to remove the power from the machine and make sure there isn't a single loose quarter ANYWHERE in there.  Unplug the machine, remove the hopper, and look VERY carefully everywhere, including under the fixed motherboard on the bottom of the machine, and inside the power supply.

As far as the coin mechanism goes, you need to insert a quarter in to the comparator in order for your machine to accept coins.  The following video shows you how to do so:

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/s8qEKXjT3lg&rel=0" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/s8qEKXjT3lg&rel=0</a>

For the 61 error, press and hold the small white Self Test button (located next to or behind the power toggle switch inside the machine) for about five seconds.  You should hear a "ding" from the speakers, and the display will change to 61-1.  Next, close and fully latch the door shut, then turn the jackpot reset keyswitch once and release it.  The machine should then do its "maiden spin" and be ready to go.

A list of common IGT S+ errors and their resolutions can be found here:

Well I pushed the butto and it cleared the screen no 61-1. Then I close the door and turn the key and  and 61 comes up again??
Where do I look now?

No, should I? I met a local guy that does repairs, and he wants me to bring it to him. I would rather fix it myself unless everyone thinks it's a bad idea.

I went to see Barry today and I'm up and running!!!  He's a great guy and really knows his stuff. It's too bad he's moving south, he is a great resource to have 30 minutes from my house. It's very cool to have a slot machine in the game room it really is going to round it off.
Thanks for everyone's help
