Newbie here! I have a Bally Pro-Slot S5500 "Triple Roses" reel slot machine. Got the 81 error code and replaced the battery. Did a SafeRamClear (Complete, full, and partial) according to the Bally repair manual which I have.
I cannot get past the 83F code now, no matter what I do.
Chips U12, U15, U3, U4 are all 95000. Power supply is new and when powered up, lights flash but reels do not reset and of course the 83F code.
Read somewhere? I may need ram clear chips then again read that I do not. Sooo
1- Any suggestions
2-Does it need repair and if so, where?
3- If chips are needed, where can I find them and what number?
The machine worked flawlessly until the battery died and care was taken to prevent any electrostatic discharge. My skill level is a 7.5 out of 10.
Any help, suggestions or comments will be truly appreciated and I can be emailed directly or called at prsherry42@yahoo.com or 360-314-6005
Thanks in advance, Phil Sherry

I found out that there are two different procedures to reset a 5500.  First you don't need the clear chips.  Turn game off using the switch on inside of cabinet.  Slide the board out some.  You you need to locate jumper JW10 (located right front of board) and put the jumper on both pins and reinsert the board back in.  Now here are the two procedures.

1.  While holding pseudo coin and test buttons with your right hand, turn game on with left hand.  The display on the front will show CH C and then CL C and then the buttons on the front start flashing.  Turn off the power.  Slide the board out and put the jumper back over just one of the pins.  Reinsert the board, power up and you're ready to go.

2.  While holding pseudo coin and test buttons with your right hand, turn game on with left hand.  When you see the display on the front show CH C, LET GO OF THE BUTTONS and then the display will change to CL C and then the buttons on the front start flashing.  Turn off the power.  Slide the board out and put the jumper back over just one of the pins.  Reinsert the board, power up and you're ready to go.

That's what I've found.

I want to thank you for the rapid reply, however I performed the test with the J10 jumper previously and the results are still an 83F code, thus my post to see if there are any other logical solutions. I even taped the test/pseudo buttons down for a half hour and NOTHING.So it is back to my original questions.
BTW, I do not get a CH C or a CL C at any time.I only get a 83F

Hi - If you don't get CH C or CL P then the ram hasn't been reset.    Some 5500 mains (if they are newer) require chips to clear.  If you use the jumper and press and hold pseduo and test and don't see CHC or CLP with all the lights blinking the ram you might need chips to clear it.   What are the numbers on the mains ?  That will tell us if you can clear without chips.

Hi
i have several s5500 slots and any of them using the 95000 as you said you have, i have replaced them due to similar problems like yours. I use 'ME' and 'SE'  92000 chips for all my 4 chip mains. Any and all versions A thru F work fine. With these chips I never have had a problem with resetting machines using the board jumper. I was told that the 96000 chips required the clear chip but whenever I have had the 95000 chips in a machine and deal with battery issues it hasnt worked using the board clearing method. Not sure if this is coincedence or not but found that using 92000 mains chips clearing board with jumper worked. I have had a board in past on a s55000 that turned out to be a chip was bad elsewhere on the board. I dont know if I still have that slot machine record indicating which chip but it was not mains or personality chips, but small ic chip. Send private email if you like

Hi there. this post was very helpful, I followed the steps, and now the reels are turning and turning, and have been turning for about 5-6 minutes. is it normal to have them turn for this long during the reset? There is also a code 4.0 on there.

Any help is greatly appreciated

hi sara
welcom to NLG. The answer to your question is no. the reels should only turn long enough for it to find the beginning of reel mark then stop and i believe there is a pause and then the validator makes some noise and then you display panel should have a dot or two on it and if using coins a flashing insert coins should appear just above the max bet button. how are you trying to reset your slot? are you just pressing the reset button or sram clear type reset with either chips or jumper? if you are pressing the reset button it is not enough. you are going to need to clear your ram. for whatever reason something glitched. the ongoing reel spinning finally sort of times out with the 4. error. or other times one reel doesnt initialize and give a reel speed  error. none of the times i have gotten those errors has it ever really been a hardware reel spinning problem. I do not recall how much of the sram clear procedure was covered in this thread as it was a while back. But if you only did a reset then you need to do a a sram clear on your system. before i type a novel here, could you please inform me of what it is that you were doing reset or ram clear and how you did the steps that ended up with your 4.0 error. also could you tell me the reason you were resetting the slot. with that i should be able to tell you what will help you best. if you are familiar with the sram clear procedure, right off the bat you need to do it or do it again. let me know and we will go from there.

Thank you for the fast response!! Here is the steps I followed from earlier in this thread

When I got this slot it was modified to bypass the hopper, when we got it turned on there was an error 81, so we replaced the battery, then we received the 83F error and followed this thread.
We are VERY new to this slot machine and were hopping to have it running by Christmas, but I am starting to think its not going to run.

Open to ANY and ALL help!!

Thanks-
Sarah

can you tell me what version of the main chips you are using they are chips u3, u4, u12, u15. they are right next to two other chips that look the same. there should be a label on the eproms. if originals they will give you the chip version numbers. i.e. me920000 - f0, me920000 - f1, se920000 -f2, se920000-f3. if copies hopefully it gives that same info. let me know what that is. another question i have is, what info is on the label on chips located at u18 and u20. Am I correct in understanding you have not  had this slot power up successfully as you just got it and the 81 error (battery) then 83f came up. if so then also let me know what the name of the slot is and if it is 2 coin or 3 coin max bet, along with highest amount paid for jackpot. it could be that the two chips at u18 and u20 are not the correct ones for your game. in the past i have tried sets of chips that go to a different game just to see how the slot would react and your particular error is one I got often when doing this. those two chips define the personality of your slot machine and its features unique to only it. and there are probably several versions of your game title available but not all work on every machine, especially if it has the wrong coin version. there is more but i am trying to make an honest effort at not writing any more full length novels passed off as message replies.

If the reels keep turning and don't stop, you may have a bad reel reader.
When they fail they respond by a slow turning.

Did this machine work before you replaced the battery?

I mail Sarah a 5500 manual and jack pot key, she should have it by tomorrow, I think if the reels are turning slowly she has got rid of the 83F maybe how just pressing the reset button is all that it needs.

Just a follow up on this machine it's now working. 2 or 3 phone calls and pressing the reset a bunch of times it's now ready to go under a Christmas tree.
