I have a similar Question ...

I realize that this is the wrong forum heading for ALPHA games but I did not want to start another thread for the same question...  Can the Moderator Please MOVE this thread to the ALPHA REEL Games?

My Questions ...

When changing the game (ALPHA S9000 Elite), what software needs to be changed out ... Just the Game CF Card or does the Reel Controller chip also need to be changed?
I am assuming the O.S. CF card does not need to be changed, is this correct?

Thanks!

In most cases just the game CF card. And the proper clear card for your OS and Bios.

Hello together,

if we are talking about an Bally Alpha S9000 machine ("S" for reel "S"tepper machine) i could tell you the following:

From the Hardware side you will need the reel strips and the reel glass plastics and maybe the topper inserts; i think that´s clear Tongue Out

From the Software side you will only need the game flash from the new game. You don´t have to change any other chips, parts, software or anything else. But: To change a game you have to do a complete RAM clear. So you need a RAM clear flash card as well! Do you have it??? If not you can´t do the game conversion! But i could help you in this case as well. Please let me know.

So, if you have that RAM clear card (please notice that there are different versions of it....) to start from the beginning: Open the small door at the CPU and you will find 2 compact flash card ports. The upper one should contain the called "game OS" flash card; the lower one should contain the game flash card. For the game change you must 1.) remove both flash cards. Then 2.) insert the RAM clear card in the port where the game OS card stayed before (upper port). Then 3.) switch on the machine and follow the instructions on the screen. You must finally turn the key on the right side of the machine then switch the machine of again. Then 4.) remove the RAM clear card. 5.) Put in the game OS again and the "new" game flash card and after that switch on the machine again. It will boot up (which will need many minutes).

Please notice that after an RAM clear you have to do all the settings again!!! They will depend on the new game. What new game do you have? A game with progressive options?
So if you don´t have any experinece in it, please ask again. I could send you pictures and / or further instructions.

But don´t worry, it is not to difficult to do.

Please let me know if you will need any more help.

Many greetings,
Dennis

Thanks for the quick answers!  +1 (Karma, or whatever) +1 (Karma, or whatever)

Now, if I wanted to change from a 5 Reel game to a 3 Reel Game ... Obviously I would need a different reel shelf, Reels, Reel Glass, maybe a button deck, and in this case I am guessing I would need a different Reel controller chip?
Any other hardware or software I'm missing?

You do not need a different reel controller chip. You may have to perform the clear multiple times to get the machine to forget the different number of reels. (Phantom Reel Syndrome)

I ´am not sure if you will need another reel controller chip. I have never changed from a 5 reel to a 3 reel game. If so, it is located in the small metal box over the reels.

Whats most important: When you make a RAM clear most settings are lost! So before that i suggest to go into the menu before and make pictures of all the menu settings.

Many greetings

Thank you all for the help!  +1 (Karma, or whatever) +1 (Karma, or whatever) +1 (Karma, or whatever)

I already own another 5 reel kit that I have yet to try.  I also own a three reel kit, but do not own the 3 Reel conversion hardware yet.

Now I know what to do when I am ready to make the change!  yes

Happy New Years!  wave

I'm in the middle of trying to do a game change and After I did the clear and turned the key on the side, I pot the OS and game chip back in and turned the machine back on and I am stuck on a black screen that says:

GPK already in place

JEprom signature AUTHENTICATED

error could not open partition

Aborting

Have I missed a step?

Thanks,

David

I have never seen such message before! Scratch Head

Have you done every step in the right order?

1. Take out the game OS and the game flash card
2. Put in the clear card in the upper slot (where the OS card was located)
3. Doing the clear
4. Put in the game OS card back in the upper slot and the game flash card (for the new game) in the lower slot

I hope that will help...

Like already mentioned, Quickhit and Hotshot games are nice if you like progressive games. Power Progressive games are having very nice bonus rounds too. Nice games are also: 24 Karat, Diamonds and Devils, American Original, Tower of Power and many more.

There are a lot of game kits for Bally Alphas out there. That makes that machine so interesting. The handling is quite easy and you will find many spare parts and game kits.
