Bally 6000: 88FF Error

I have a Bally 6000 "Triple Paytime" machine.  It was off for about 1 month, and when I turned it on this weekend, it displayed a 88FF error code.  I tried to perform a safe ram clear using the clear chips for U48 and U43, but did not get a CL message when holding down the test and pseudo buttons on the MPU board.  After installing the clear chips and turning on the machine, nothing appeared in any of the windows on the front of the machine (all were blank).  I will admit that when I first tried I had installed both clear chips in the wrong direction.  I reversed them to the proper direction and still got no message in the display windows.  Does this mean I need a new MPU board, or did installing the clear chips in the wrong direction cause them to be corrupted?  After I tried the clear procedure a couple of times with no luck, I reinstalled the game chips and still got the 88FF error code message.

Any advice on how to correct this problem would be greatly appreciated.

The Saferam Clear chips are U28 and U43, I'm sure you meant that.  If the chips were in the wrong direction, then at least one chip would be corrupt.  On a Bally S6000 this is what happens to mains or saferam, It usually only corrupts one of the two(pretty sure the U43).  If you het a new set of clear chips you should be back in business.  I know Jim (Blueridge on NLG) has the new versions of clear chips.

Thanks very much Wayne.  I was afraid that putting the clear chips in backwards might have caused them to fail.  Can Jim of Blueridge, or anyone else, help me get a new clear chip set?  Please let me know how to contact you to purchase them.

maybe somebody can help me,  i  am starting from scrap here and my bonus frenzy bally 6000 just started the 88ff  code.   i am new to all of this so please help me where to start on this problem.  dont know what to do and where to go for help.

I got that error after my battery died.  A simple ram clear took care of it.

I should mention that (as stated in the video) you will have to hold the test and pseudo coin switches while turning on the slot in order to perform a complete clear.  You will need to perform the complete clear.  Please let us know the results.

   i finally ordered and received the u28 and u43 clear chips.  i tried the complete saferam clear but all the display says is 8100 in the win window.   any suggestions!!!!!!    this is very upsetting for me.  the video is great and very helpful.   i dont have a paper payout,  just token coins if that helps.  other than that i am lost

Isn't 81 a battery - let me look

Yer 81 is low battery voltage. So you need to replace the battery then do another ram clear.   Bally machines have their battery die all the time.

Actually, according to what others have observed, the 6000 series doesn't eat batteries like the 5500 does. Of course, he still needs to change his battery.

I've never changed a battery on my three S+'s or my Wms Dot. As far as I know, the batteries in those machines are at least 6-10 years old. My Gamemaker battery seems to be holding up well. I've had it just under two years and the battery was several years old when I bought it (based on info from the previous owner), and it's still at 3.6v.

The 5500's last one to two years, tops, and I'm being generous.

I still have s6000 machines that have been stored and have 1998 batteries that are still good.  If you had to change yours twice, I'd wonder where you get your batteries from or if there is a problem with the machine that is drawing too much power.  I did buy some batteries on ebay in the past and soon learned that even though they were brand new and dated something like 2004, they died quick.  It's much better to buy batteries that are fresh.  The batteries I now use are current from within the year.

hello I have a Bally S6000 (French Quarter) marked 1997 on the mpu
we used it for 1 year from time to time we have lit
88ff and the error appeared.
after changing the battery, and ordered the ram clear u28 and U43
I am clear as the ram on the video, then it marks chp
83f0 ...
I ordered the other ram (DIP8) I did the procedure and the same problem
chp 00 in credit and then again 83f0

Have you any idea??

I would think you are using older Saferam clear chips than your mains.  You can either get the current Saferam Clear chips or older mains.
