This is reposted from the old NLG. should help.

On my RW&B vision I'm getting a "main battery low" error message on
the small blue dot matrix display. I pulled the processor board and found
it has two batteries - one rechargable NiCad (which started to leak and
was showing zero volts), and a coin-sized BR2330 (which shows 2.5 volts).
I replaced the NiCad with a remote three AA battery pack with a blocking
diode (so it doesn't try and recharge the AA batteries, and remote so no
more leaking causing board corrosion). I'll try replacing the coin sized BR2330
next with a socket and replacable CR2032 lithium 3 volt battery.
But which is the "main" battery? and what do they call the other battery?
And why are there TWO batteries? What is the purpose of that?
----------------------
After replacing the coin battery, now have 3.2 volts
showing at the battery and at pin 28 of the 628512 RAM
chips. But now i get the error, "call attendant, RAM ERROR".
Machine goes no where, vision LCD does nothing,
this error comes on immediately. Ok so what did i
do here? Do i need a clear chip or a key chip? i have an
EPROM programmer so that's no problem.

Keep turning the Jackpot reset key until the display shows push
and hold self test button, then after that close the door, (just follow the display)

Yup open the coin door, turn the jackpot reset key and it gives you
all sorts of messages which are advanced as you turn the jackpot key.
and then it says to press the self-test button for 2-3 seconds, and then
does an "auto-config" and "MsVerify". Takes a while but it eventually
comes up with "Restart Closure M" and then "Primary SAS Down".
Won't go past that. but i'll try messing around with the self-tests.
At least the battery low message is gone!
-------------------
If you get the SAS message the fastest way to get rid of it is to do a
clear rather then trying to undo the last casino's setup that was left on the board.
Much quicker to re-setup the denom then having to undo SAS - IMHO
If you just want to undo SAS I think you have to Key chip it but not sure on that one.

Ok i got the Key Chip (thanks Dave!), but really did not need it.
Just in case anyone cares, it goes in socket U21 on the
main (lower) processor board. It's a very strange system.
put it in, boot up, nothing happens. turn it off, put original
U21 chip back in, boot up. Press 'test' button, and key chip
info is there on the vision screen. You can change options like
payback percentage (which was not an option on the test
menus before installing the key chip). After you boot up the
next time, the key chip options are gone, and you're back
to the 'normal' test menus.
Also I should mention there is yet ANOTHER battery
in this machine! In the "top" computer, the one with
the flash card that runs the color vision display, there is
another coin style battery. That makes THREE batteries.
Wow that's a lot of batteries.
In the end, i really did not need the key chip. Instead to get rid
of the "primary sas down" message, go to test menu
3.4 and disable SAS. There is primary and secondary
SAS. it's kind of strange and not so easy to disable,
but i manged to get through the menus and figure it out.
Game now plays fine!
I will say this though, i'm pretty underwhelmed by
the s2000 vision (mine is RW&B). The williams dotmation
is a MUCH better game in my opinion. Not color, but the
bonus games and dot matrix display is just more fun
than the vision system. The WMS stuff has humor and
is fun. The IGT vision is very stiff. Obviously better color
graphics, but just very stiff. Also the WMS dotmations talk,
where the vision (at least the one i have) does not.
the IGT sound kind of sucks too - sound is much more
elaborate on the dotmation, where the IGT is just a step
up from the S+ in sound 'tones'.
Maybe i need to convert the RW&B to another game?
Because again, i'm pretty underwhelmed. Is there a
better game i could convert to without spending a zillion
dollars? and damn i bet it takes 5 minutes for this vision
to boot up and play!
