Bally Money Honey has hopper issue

I have a Bally Money Honey Slot machine that has a weird problem and I have not been able to figure it out so I'm looking for help. The machine is in very good condition, but the problem is that once you insert the coin, the light accepted coin lights up, now here's where the problem begins. As soon as you pull the handle to spin the reels, the hopper motor starts and the machine spits out roughly 18 coins. It doesn't matter what jack pot is it or if one is hit. I have removed the hopper and reels assy and checked all the wires and relays for proper operations and shorts. Cleaned and oiled anything that was not operation properly. I'm totally stumped??

Sounds like the hopper is not resetting.
Check the spring tension on the 100 tooth gear.

you have a short to the cabinet which can be anywhere - the usual culprets are a light socket on the door that is hitting metal,  a blade switch which is loose and is touching metal or the stop for the blade switch has a bare spot in the insulator.  Since you seem to be getting 18 coins - I would check that circuit all the way back to reel mech.  There maybe a broken wire on the reel wipers.  To isolate - after you coin up disconnect the door molex - if hopper still keeps running - pull the reel mech partially out - in other words try to isolate the component that may be causing the short.   If you have jumper/test cables that would make checking alot easier.

I Will try to disconnect the doors molex plug after I coin up the machine. I'm not 100% sure what you mean by a blade switch, do you mean one of the many relay in this machine? I have gone over ever inch on wiring I can get to on this machine and have not found a bare spot, but it doesn't mean I didn't miss one. I wish I have a jump/test cable... I've looked at all the solder joints for solder bridges and didn't see any. I'm kind of wondering if someone before I owned this machine might have replaced a relay and crossed up a wire when they re-soldered?

Well I coined up the machine, then unplugged the molex connector on the door and that didn't make a difference. What I did notice is that my payout in a constant 10 coins payout after the reels stop spinning. So that's telling me that it's in the 3 oranges or 2 oranges and a bar payout circuit... Any more advice or where to look next?

maybe you have a miss match mech  and hopper when we use to buy old em 809.873.831   so many times wrong mech and hopper or someone  rewired  something ,

From what I can tell this is a model 742A but it doesn't have a Bally model tag. The cabinet is black metal.

if the hopper is trying to payout the same amount everytime - then the reel mech wiper boards need to be checked to see if you have a broken wire that is causing a short for the 18 pay (?).  Also check the blade switch  just below the zero stop (blade switches are the thin metal blades that have contacts on them).  I doubt you have the wrong parts.  For the machine to continually pay the same amount indicates a payout wire for the 18 pay is shorted.  If you look at the payout wiper board on the hopper - along the bottom edge are numbers - look for the 18 and you will see a wire (follow that wire to the beauplug at the back - then trace it to the reel mech plug - then to the wiper boards on the reel mech.  The wiper boards are not original money honey - they have been replaced so the wiring/soldering could be suspect.  Again the assumption is it is the 18 pay.
