The Pachislo are a real slot machine..... made for the Japanese market.

The Japan lotto commission mandates that the machines must be taken out of service after 2 years. Thats why there are so many of them.

In Japan land is at a premium - this is where cremation started (although I am sure the Swedes (aka Vikings) would argue this point) so it is actually cheaper for them to export than to send to any kind of landfill. Most Japanese homes are quite modest so there is no domestic market for having one of these in the home. My friend lives in a 600sqft studio style appartment in the center of Tokyo, she gives away her winter clothes after each season as she has no place to store them. All garbage is tolled - with different rates for items that can be incinerated, recycled, composted or fill.

Your friend must be quite well off to be able to afford 600 square feet in the center of Tokyo. Hail

The trick to enjoying Pachislos is to approach them with an understanding of how they were meant to be played, not with the expectation of having a Vegas-style class III experience. Although gambling takes place in Pachinko parlors, it is a very different environment and experience, closer to an arcade than an American casino.

I play mine more for the video clips and the music that plays during the big bonus. I love some of the Japanese phrases and broken English that the screen characters shout out -- much of it is quite amusing!  I don't even pay much attention to the coins in or out anymore. I used quarters at first, but switched over to tokens. They are easier to quick load than quarters and cleaner on the hands. The only time that I look at the credit side of playing is during the big bonus where skill can increase the size of the bonus (at least on my game). Then I compete and try to get the largest big bonus win that I can.

<ADD> I would never even think of putting a handle on the machine or trying to bypass the skill stop buttons. In fact, bypassing those buttons would ruin the play experience because during a "Mission" video, stopping each reel advances to the next part of the video segment. It's important to be able to watch each segment and then time the button presses to get a "smooth" video experience.

The machine also telegraphs clues as to what you are going to win during regular play. Sometimes it's a video clue. Sometimes it uses the back lights on the reels to tell you what is going to happen. Again, bypassing the stop buttons would ruin that aspect of play.

I've learn to hate these pachislo machines.   Not because of the machine themselves, but the people that sell them om craigslist and eBay.  You know the the ones  with the ads that read  REAL VEGAS SLOT MACHINE  or AUTHENTIC SLOT MACHINE FROM AN JAPANESE CASINO.   I have wasted a lot of time when I was looking for my first slot machine because of these ads.  When I see an ad that calls it like it is  like PACHISLO SKILL STOP MACHINE $200.   I fell like sending a thankyou letter to the person for being honest.  Anyway that's my thoughts for the day.  Mike

The problem I think is with the wording "Real Vegas Slot Machine"
I'd prefer if they called it "Real Japanese Slot Machine"
Wouldn't that make it more authentic?

However, even after this last statement, doesn't real, authentic, U.S. companies like IGT actually make Pistachios?
Or was it some other type of "skill-stop" piece of junk?

Pachislo's should be illegal just because they are a poor imitation of a slot machine. I suggest 2 things when encountering them:

1)Give them away and they can be collected and shipped back to Japan.
2)Find a friend and have them get yo azz to NLG as soon as possible for de-programming, you need serious help at this point.
3)Learn to take the knowledge here and watch it transform you into a slot addict and a person with people power.

Just kidding!!!!!!!! But you got to admit, NLG will grow on you.......

The revenue market for Pachinko and Pachi-slo is much greater than what ALL of the casinos in the world bring in (I think I read it somewhere).

I had a few of them, BORING!!  they limit the payout to 15 coins max, so to get more the silly thing hits the 15 coin max like 8 times or more. The music is nausiating, the lights look cheesy, the case is flimsy and the guts are not serviceable....

But they make a very pretty table lamp Smiley

Its Japanese gaming laws that make them like this.
1. 5:1 is the max payout ratio.
2. They get around this however by guarenteeing xx number of sequential wins when you hit something big.
Japanese banking laws then prohibit how much credit can be stored in a non-banking institution thus the limit of 50 metals on each machine.

Also these are "gaming" machines not gambling machines. Thus the skill nature of the beast vs NorthAmercian slot action.
Finally they can't redeem "metals" for cash so they redeem prizes like you see in kids arcades here.

What is however different is that there is usually a prize redemption center - who just happens to want to uy your giant stuffed panda for cash.
These cannot be owned by the same company as the entertainment parlor and they have to be in their own space - ie  a kiosk within the pachi parlor is not allowed.

Let me put it this way - These are authentic Japanese Gaming machines - they are what they are and adding auto-stops, slot arms, quarter conversions etc will never make them into a NorthAmerican machine - if you want a North American Machine buy a North American Machine. If you want a skill stop buy a skill stop. When I had my two I enjoyed explaining the contrast.
Swiss gaming machines are quite different again and often have a light going up and down a tower - you hit the STOP button when the light is in the zone.

To be honest I would anticipate that the North American machines are going to evolve into more interactive machines to serve the younger video generation -
I can easily see the future being a game like SuperMario however when you jump and collect the gold coins you are winning these.

Whats different with NorthAmerican gaming laws is that all suckers punters players have to have an even chance of winning so anything that is based on dexteraious skill is not currently allowed. Mental skills ie - Poker and Blackjack are a different story.
