Once again, contact our sponsors at the top of the page.

I'm not sure you'd need 5, as the non-standalone models support up to 32 machines per controller.

Unless you've got ~150 machines, that is. propeller propeller

When hooking up one con2 to five machines is there any other parts needed?

Just the wiring harnesses to the different machines, as long as the machines are the same (all s+ or S2000, etc.).

Wow even if I wanted progressive meters in each machine and a message display hanging from the ceiling?

Then you'll need meters and CHAMIIs to drive them for each machine, along with meters and a big display (and the necessary wiring). If you'd like graphics in the big display, you'll need a Supreme display and controller as well. The CON2 can handle simple animated text (scrolling and changing color).

Note that those are CHAMII not CHAMII+. The + is a standalone and is not necessary if being driven by a CON2.

Slot1------   Con2 ------ChamII---Meter
Slot2------           -------ChamII---Meter
Slot3------           ------ Supreme
Slot4------
. . .
Slot32

The Supremes are the large(r) overhead displays.

The ChamII's which are solely designed to speak to a CON2 (also called a super controller) are less expensive than a ChamII+
The ChamII+ can be switched from standalone mode to link mode, which is good if you already have a ChamII+ but if you are going out to buy, then I would look for the ChamII's

A number of people have accidently purchased ChamII's thinking they would work standalone so you can often pick these up very cheap.

Excuse the crappy cell phone video, now that I'm starting my new job I'll have time to post better ones.

The first is a 2x3 Supreme display connected to a Supreme display controller running Wheel of Fortune graphics, the CON2 isn't hooked up or there would be a progressive amount displayed.
The second is a 1x1 hooked up to a Supreme controller and a CON2 progressive controller, the text and graphics are supplied by the CON2.

Not sure what mission creep. In the tech industry, if you were starting out with a single display in a single machine and wound up with 5 machines all with single displays in a system tied together with a controller and a big overhead display, we'd call it "feature creep".  Cry Laughing

Mission creep sounds about the same... yes propeller

OK Just got back from a nice shopping trip and have returned to trying to get one machine up and running.

I am able to send the first three screen to the Mikon controller with no errors. Infact the jackpot amount reads on the display in correct currency. However when I get to the message screen inside the psp I tried to send f5 the demo do command and the screen reads "Default error, Check controller#1" on the next line is states "sending file DEMO_DO" then on the next line it states "Default error, Check controller#1"
and of course the only thing flashing on the display is the base jackpot I first programed in.

Where do I go from here guys  Hail Hail Hail Hail Hail

I have found that on some screens you have to press send many times, especially with the message screen.

Reboot the controller and send the file immediately after the reboot. That's practically the only way to get a CHAMII+ to accept a message file.  stir the pot / get cooking
You may also need to check your hardware settings on the controller.

Those darn progressive systems...arghh!
It's amazing how much one needs to learn to get them up and running...
Don't give up...it's not easy but you'll get it going...
I remember a couple years back I spent hour after hour upon hours
learning, scratching my head reading endless topics on this - to get mine going.
When you can finally get it to where you want it...
you jump for joy and call the entire family over to see the pretty colors...LOL
After a few months, you forget just about everything and have to re-learn it
almost all over again just to change a message or reset it a little differently...ARghhh!!

Do this, when you get it all set up, write a few important notes on the programming on a pad and
stuff it on the box where the display is - for next time...

StatFreak can I ask the best way to reboot the chamII+ and at what time in boot up should one send the message file? I have programed many machine level eproms to preform certain tasked and the only time I have trouble having a program stick is when the hardware is not configured right I.E. a jumper is either plugged or unplugged or the timing circuit is not functioning right. What is the jumper on the ChamII for? Scratch Head

When you say to check the hardware settings is there any particular setting that could help the downloading or display of the message do files.  Scratch Head

It amazing how one could read the same books 10 times and each time someone keeps adding information in each book that wasn't there the time before. yes  arrow

Thanks guys I will get it eventually after all I just bought all this stuff and I dieing to get it working!

I'm not sure why the CHAMII+ behaves the way that it does, but many of us have experienced it. I usually remove and reapply the power harness to reboot the controller. I send the file within 5-10 seconds of the reboot sequence completing.

After working with computers for over 25 years, and in particular MicroCrap Windoze, I've reached the point where sometimes I just go with the flow. arrow I've seen computers do things that make absolutely no sense and if something fixes the issue, sometimes it's best not to question why. Tongue Out  bust gut laughing bust gut laughing

...

To clarify, I am not aware of specific hardware settings that would contribute to the issue of successfully uploading the file to the controller, but you stated that you are getting the message "Default error, Check controller#1", and that, I believe, is an independent issue -- at least it's one that I never experienced when attempting to upload a file. I'll withdraw my suggestion and defer to someone with more experience with that error.

Hope this helps.
