What???...Where???...Huh???

« on: October 05, 2008, 01:43:07 PM »

OK, so I have used Internet Explorer as my Web Browser for the last umteen years.
A couple weeks ago I switched to Firefox and am undecided as to which I like better.
I did use Netscape for a very brief period shortly after the internet became realistically available.
At that time I preferred IE and haven't tried any others till now.

So What do YOU think?

What are the Pros & Cons?...Why do you like the one you use?

Well  bust gut laughing bust gut laughing bust gut laughing it says it on the bottom of every page  frying pan

NewLifeGames.net Web-Site is optimized for Best use with Fire-Fox and a minimum screen resolution of 1152x864 pixels.

Internet Explorer Sucks, Yeah, I said it.

Reasons

IE cannot process php worth a shit !!!! (and all of NLG is based on PHP and Mysql)
In the past I wasted many hours of my life trying to debug why IE did not want to play well with php as coded  hissy fit hissy fit hissy fit
Found out that if I wanted IE to work right I would have to edit every php-page on the site and add lots of BS coding..  no no no

So Im sorry to say if you are using IE you are not seeing or getting the most out of NLG

ttth We do not and will not support IE  ttth

Its Just Better!

Mac users would argue Safari, it needs to be in the poll.  Other uses will argue Opera.

I have been using IE and the AOL browser which I believe is a modified IE, but I am going to install and try the Firefox browser.

You haven't steered me wrong yet.

I prefer to use Firefox over IE. When they came out with the version that allowed tabbed browsing I was hooked.

I use Firefox because it is not a Microsloth product! Loved it ever since the beta was released way back when.

Definitely, Mozilla's FireFox. It is Based on the gecko engine as is the Opera web browser. It adheres to the most W3C standards. The W3C is the World Wide Web Consortium, the group that sets the standards for the internet. These standards try to make the web compatible for all users, with disabilities or not, and they also set the standards so that in a perfect world, all web pages will display the same no matter what web browser you are using.  For this to work, a web designer must keep up with these ever changing standards and implement them in their web page designs.
Most importantly, the makers of each browser must follow these standards as well.  Unfortunately, Internet Explorer is the least compatible with these standards. Microsoft is getting better, but they make a web designer's life a living hell.  Mozilla's FireFox adheres to the most standards and others are starting to follow.  Just a note, but not adhering to the W3C's standards can cause pages to render in-accurately and or do some pretty funny things. The moral of the Story is, Use FireFox, it is reliable, web friendly and an all around more secure browser.

Hope this helps,
Eric

Firefox on winblows and I use Safari on the Mac.     I am curious about how many members use an antivirus product.    I would bet that most firefox users don't use an antivirus.

I use Antivirus and would HIGHLY recommend everyone use some kind - there are other ways to get viruses besides browsing the web....

I can tell Firefox to change the information you see, using an add-on called User Agent Switcher. It allows me to identify my browser and OS as whatever I want it to.

I do use IE, however, many of the applications I use for work are IE specific, and won't run on anything else.

I've been using Firefox almost exclusively, but still bring up the site in IE when I want to save a page. Firefox doesn't use Microcrap's proprietary MHTML complete web page files. I prefer saving web pages that way because I am guaranteed to have all of the images intact down the road, and don't have to manage silly tag-along folders.

Firefox is much better behaved in general. I tried Safari and didn't like the interface. Never go online without AV and a hardware firewall. I also have locked my firewall down to disallow almost all outgoing access, not just incoming. This saved my butt the one time I did get infected, because the Trojan couldn't access the hacker's server from my machine, although I found page after page of attempts in my log file after eliminating the virus.

WoW, I can't understand how so many people proactively prefer IE Shocked Just cause you didn't try something else?

IE is making a hell for people who code with correct semantic/validated code. I use like 10-20% of the time making code only to fix bugs in IE only.

What is the breakdown for NLG?  Joey should be able to tell us what percentage of people use IE vs Firefox.
