I am trying to repair my mother-in-law's Cranky Condor (skill-stop?) slot machine & I read all the posts in the Universal forum, but the power supply and board info/pics don't match what I have.  It is a 1995 machine & most of the (important) writing is Japanese.  It says EX Series on the front.  It is almost completely dead.  The flourescent lights work but not the 2 LED displays.  The only other signs of life are LEDs on two of the door buttons and the spin joystick, which light or go out when activated.  Also, on power-up the hopper motor runs for about a second. The motherboard has a single LED that never lights; it has a sticker over an EEPROM labelled 84576U, and 95212-A1 is etched on the back of the board.  The MB has no buttons, dips, or jumpers of any kind.  I measured 5VDC and 15VDC, if I remember correctly, on the motherboard, but I don't know what I should have & where. The power supply doesn't look like anything I've seen in this forum; it has a 22-pin connector on the bottom, not a Molex on the front, and no noise filter.  The voltage levels are labeled and measure ok.  I disassembled, visually inspected, and cleaned everything, including all connections.  There weren't any stray slots that were shorting anything.  I haven't been able to find a manual or any technical info that matches this slot.  If anyone has helpful information or a link to some, it would be greatly appreciated.

The information in the Universal section is for U.S. casino machines. Your skill stop is newer and different then what is described here.
I've never worked on a skill stop. Sorry I can't help you. Maybe some other members here have some knowledge on this machine?

I apologize.  I didn't see another forum that fit better than Universal Reel/Video Games, since it is a Universal Reel machine.  I must have missed the text that said U.S. casino machines only, and the skill-stop machine forum is somewhere else.

No worries or apology necessary jes0629, and welcome to NLG. wave
No one expects a new member to know the ins and outs of where to post. Just use common sense and we moderators will move threads as necessary.

We don't deal much with the Pachislo machines on this forum, although some of us have them, myself included. However, I have never done anything with my Pachislo except play it, so I can't be of any help either.

I would also suggest trying http://pachitalk.com as Rheo33 suggested.

Overall there is not a lot of knowlege on this forum about Pachislo and there already exists the PachiTalk forum with all sorts of expertise with these.... so the apology comes from us that we really can't be a lot of help. We do have an area that we move the post too but as you saw it has not gotten a lot of response in the way of any techincal help.

I owned a couple of Pachislos as my first 2 machines.....nothing wrong with them but they don't give you much in the way of Tinker-ability. Most of the people here have fun by changing game themes, adding progressives, and bringing them back to casino ready standards. The Pachislo is pretty much a solid state game and not many user serviceable parts and spare parts are pretty much non-existant. With the relative low cost of the units its easier to replace the box then to try and fix it. The error code you have in not in any of my manuals so again I defer you to the www.pachitalk.com forum for them to fix you up.

Hello!

I also have a non-working Cranky Condor machine!  I posted some pics below - I think my issue is the main board above the reels.  Does your machine look the same??  I have another identical Universal Pachislo that is a "Frozen Nights"- that one works great - so I was able to swap some parts around to figure out the best I can it's the main board - maybe you and me can swap some parts and get 1 working machine out of 2??

Just tilt the machine on it's back and reach up inside and move the lock rod with your hand, then open machine, no key needed

thanks for the advice. i did however open it this way some time ago. this model is the older type and one of the resets is on the outside top and requires the door key (cylindrical) to reset the jackpot (i think). i know it is a reset of some type. there is also the regular type reset inside the machine which i have the key for. thanks..

I know nothing about this machine, but if there are different keys and you don't know the number, it might be easier to just open it up and replace them with ones that have keys.

Have you tried the pachitalk.com forums?  Someone there might have the right key for you. Just a thought.

On my Pachi (with a broken key), the reset action of the key just moves a small lever on the inside of the door to break an optical beam.  You can use a piece of paper to break the beam by hand, and since the machines don't know when the door is open (typically), it should work just as if you had turned the key from the outside.   propeller

I think that reset is used if you get a hopper empty condition -- fill the hopper, then trigger the reset (using the key or break the opto beam) to tell the machine that you filled the hopper.

Good point knagl. You can definitely use a piece of paper to break the reset optic on the door.

One thing I can add is that with many Pachislos (including mine) the hopper empty tilt is cleared using the reset button on the power supply. Usually, the key reset is used after a bonus round (jackpot) ends.

What is less known is that on models with one or two 2-position slide switches on the PS, one of those switches controls whether or not a reset is required after a bonus round. So, if your model has one or two of these switches, you might try changing the position of one switch at a time, then play until you get a Big Bonus and see if the reset requirement after the bonus goes away. If you have two switches, it will obviously take some time to check the positions of both of them since you'll have to hit a Big Bonus for each set of positions to figure things out.

Having said all of that, I'm not an expert by any means, and I don't know if the switch functions apply to Universal Pachislos, although I do know that it applies to more than one brand of machine.

Hope this helps.

I just found this thread and think I may have figured out what my problem is.

After playing a "Big Chance" bonus round game, the code "oF" is displaying in my pay window.  I do not have a key to the metal box inside the cabinet that has the on-off switch, counters, etc.  It sounds like this lock might be a reset which is required after hitting a jackpot or playing a bonus round.

Of course, I received this slot machine as a present for Father's Day and my wife was told that there is no key.  Any ideas?

Thanks for any help!

The oFF means that the bonus rounds have completed and now you have to do the reset with the key. Ok, no key, no problem. One solution is to contact some pachislo vendors to get a key as most use only a handful of a certain key type. Or you can see if the lock can be removed or if the pins are visible, try to short the contacts to do the reset. Another site is pachitalk, they can help you as well.

Thank you very much for the advice.  I was able to unscrew the power supply cabinet where the reset switch is located and manually turn the switch without the key.  After turning the switch while off and then powering on, I was able to clear the error code "oF".  However, I don't think I have completely reset.  There is a "6" in the pay window and the machine is frozen.  I think this has something to do with the odds setting.

If anyone knows how to complete a reset, please feel free to enlighten me.

Thanks again.

Yes, that is for the "odds" setting. 6 is the loosest and 1 is the tightest.

Here is a link to resetting a jackpot:   http://arcade.50megs.com/pachislomanual/resetpg1.htm

And setting the odds: http://arcade.50megs.com/pachislomanual/skillpg2.htm
