Went to see Avatar this weekend. Walked up to the ticket counter and observed the ticket price at $6.25 for seniors. Then the gal says that will be $9.25.  I asked her why the difference. She says "Well it cost the studio more money to make this movie so we have to add a $3 surcharge"  What?  I really didn't believe much in corporate greed until this day. What a sham.  Just a heads up folks.

personally speaking, I will wait till it's out, watch it at home.Im sure Netflix will have it on Blue-ray DVD in the near future...

Well I have to say, I can't quite get the 3D effect at home, which wasn't that great anyway. But the CG was a quanum leap from previous fliicks.  And yeh the concession stand rapes you for sure. We  get 2 large drinks and one huge bag of popcorn for $15 and you get refills on all of it.  Then the senior discount of 50 cents, wow its only $35 for two.  I can remember my childhood movie habit that cost me 25 cents to get in, roll of Neccos for 5 cents and a coke for 10 cents, wow 40 cents for a double matinee.  So for two its almost a 100 times the cost. Has inflation gone up 100 times since 1958?

Good point there Bobo...
I just *LOVE* how they  think it's OK to "pass along" the increased costs of doing business to us "End users". XM radio is doing this crap too, telling customers they need to ponyup $9.00 every three months for "Royalty Fees". tell that CRAP to the people that listen to the TALK RADIO channels on XM...
OK, back to "Avatar"...
They tell you your going to pay $3.00 more due to the COSTS of making said movie right...
When you see that it PROFITED 617 MILLION DOLLARS this week, remember that $3.00 charge to MAKE THE MOVIE.....

They can kiss my wrinkled ass before I will pay that kind of money to see it in a theater. Trust me, it's looks FINE in my home
theater on a 55" LCD 1080P 120Hz/ 5 studio monitors and a pair of JBL 18" subwoofers driven by a DC coupled power amp.
Programming provided by the Blue-ray player, HD satellite or local 1080P source.
Combine this with leather recliners,a REAL popcorn machine and our own "Snack Bar". Dont forget the lack of sticky floors,
Idiots on cellphones, screaming kids and pigs farting I get to PAUSE the movie if/when I feel like it to get something from the
kitchen or a restroom run (Remember you only RENT iced tea)
Best thing to do is SEND THEM A NASTYGRAM! If people dont tell them off, they think it's all OK. For every person that actually writes them a letter or files a complaint they DO understand there are over 10 others that feel the same and didnt bother to write!
I got tired of them hassling us when we tried to bring in snacks.Wrote the local theater company (and local manager) a letter asking WHY it was we couldnt bring in food that they didnt offer, that met our dietary restrictions, and if they SELECTIVELY restricted others too? That started a firestorm...guess what? no problem bringing in flavored water, iced tea, chips or our own popcorn now Smiley you could hide it before in a large purse, but my large purse is out of style now (smile)

P.S. the large black box in the corner of the first picture is the JBL Subwoofer and amp on top of it(fan to keep it cool). looking for a "Crown" 1 KW amp to upgrade from the 250W one that is there now.

Kirk

Lucky the casinos don't sur-charge us to play a more popular title. In NJ, they charge for parking (which I don't understand). They say it is a state law to charge for parking at a casino! I say nay, nay. If you are already forking over your money to them why the charge?

A friend was going to see this movie today so i warned him. He replied back that they charge extra for 3D movies all of the time because of the glasses, and that they do have cheaper 2D options. Did you go to see 3D vs. 2D by chance?? I am just curious here... Still the prices have gone up alot, but the quality of movies has gone down considerably for the most part! Hollywood has a lack of creativity and quality, let alone knowing what a plot is!!! They are really good at making crappy remakes of great movies though, usually!

Yes I did screen the 3D version.  The movie house was packed wall to wall. It was a mega plex with 12 theaters. I think 6 of them were running Avatar. I had to get in a long line to buy tickets then back into a line just to be seated because it was sold out and everybody wanted that sweet spot in the middle. I had one empty seat to the left of me so I put the dropdown arm down so I could park my giant coke in the holder. About 10 min into the flick a knockout blonde probably in her 30's asked if the seat was taken and I cheerfuly said no.  (dirty ol man) As she passed in front of me a shilloette of a nice figure blotted out the screen. She sat down and immediately put the armrest back up and wiggled her ass down into the seat. We rubbed thighs and shoulders thru the whole movie, which added a little something to the experience. It was like seating in an 737, real tight. And she smelt good too. YUM.  But I agree with KirkInLasVegas, I would rather see it in my own HT.  Mine can handle all the formats and the floors aren't sticky.
