Are there any posts or booklets to help me better understand how sp chips are interchangrable or upgradable as well as the use of tournament chips
Specifically the numbers listed after the type  Ex  SP731 type 0,1,4,5,12,ID 2.5  and a SP1271 Type  0,1,4,5,19,ID023 9Pay lines   (does this mean only 9 payline machines) or all machines up to a 9 payline machine.   Also when it comes to tourney chips can I use for example a  sp chip with the (14) and swap it out with the above listed chips and convert to tourney play or is there more to it.   A little confused here.
Specifically  I have      SP 611 Type 0,1,4,5,12,    ss3412  Wild cherry 3cm
                               SP 731 Type 0,1,4,5,12     ss 3501 RWB 3cm 3line
                               SP 831 Type 0,1,4,5         ss7695 Trip/Double 2cm
                               SP 1077 Type 20              ss7511 5X Double Spin 3CM
Could I take A Sp1311 Type 0,1,4,5, 14  ST 0042  3cm RWB  and interchange with any  other 3cm machine or is it only compatible for the RWB .   Just not really sure of the limitations for use of different chips    Any Help to read up on will be appreciated  Thanks ArtD

When the chip calls for "9 Paylines", that's what it's designed to do...it won't work on a single payline game.
You'll be getting weird pays when it looks like nothing is on the single payline line reel glass.
Just about any SP game chip that says "Type 0,1,4,5,12," will work with those types listed.
A Type 2  SPchip will NOT work with a Type 1 though...only Type 2's.
Take a look at Rick's FAQ's on the top of this page for Game Types...
you will see that there are very many different types of SP game chips.
For ex. Your SP1077 Type 20 has a special double spin written into the chip.
It will make a plain RWB 2 coin machine act crazy!
If this chip works with the RWB SS chip, the payouts will NOT match the award glass at all.
Same thing goes for chips that are made for 2 coin games...they don't work well with 3 coin games...LOL

Any S+ can be any available theme. Very flexiable platform.

I will defer you to the Online Game bible. Look at the top of the home page and locate RICKS FAQs. Click on that then look for the very small URL that refers you to the IGT game bible.

First off find a theme that you want. For instance 5 line Double Diamond Deluxe. This will then show you what SS chips are available for the theme - there are usually 4 or 5 of varrying percentages.
Each SP chip has a TYPE.... Type 0 (no features) is the most common. In this case DDD is a Type 5 theme with nudge capabilities. You will then find the appropriate SP that supports that Type.
Some themes support the use of a ST chip in replacement of the SP chip, the ST is the Tournament version.

With respect to the SP chips.......
The 731 and 1271 are almost idential - generally speaking you would use the highest number you can get your hands on unless there are particular features you need in an earlier revision.
For instance the 731 supports different music on some themes while this was dropped in the 1271 to make way for more accounting features.
The 1271 supports 1st level linked progressives and second level standalone progressive, the older 731 did not support both of these.
Some chips support montanna credits (the ability to plug in 20 or so coins and have the excess to goto the credit meter).

Out of the games you have listed..only the RedWhiteBlue has a tournament availible. The others do not. SS chips are game theme specific, SP chips are game type specific. The sp1311 and st0042 are correct for your 3 coin RWB game for tournament play  did not see that it was a 3 line 3 coin arrow none of your games have tourney chip available...sorry

Stepper Slot Game Types

Type    Description
none    NONE (not 0 or TYPE 0)

TYPE 0 and 14    Special S-Plus: Selectable tournament game - Standard Type 0 S-Plus game with a feature that allows for the play of a Type 14 Tournament Game to be selected in self test.

TYPE 0    For comparison purposes, all Type 0 games are listed under the 'Standard' category of S-Plus games with no special features, existing as numerous varieties. Name of the Type 0 game is normally taken to be the graphics theme assigned to the game. All Non-System Software Slot Game Types use a Standard Type 0 data table file as the development base. STANDARD - NO SPECIAL FEATURES

TYPE 1    Slam Dunk, Balloon Bars, Knockdown, Sevens Up, Leap Frog, Nudge Up, Nudge Down. Special S-Plus: Single nudge up and/or nudge down; when the specified symbol lands on the pay line, the game will either 'nudge' the reel up one symbol, or 'nudge' the reel down one symbol. NUDGE IN ONE DIRECTION

TYPE 2    Special S-Plus: The game will pay out certain awards (as prescribed by the pay table) a predetermined amount of the total pay, then re-spin the reels to the current win combination and pay the predetermined amount again. This will continue until the total amount has been paid.

TYPE 3    Special S-Plus: If a particular reel symbol lands above or below the pay line, the reel will re-spin to put the symbol on the pay line. If the symbol lands on the line, the reel is not re-spun. The remaining reels that do not have symbols on the pay line will re-spin randomly once to try to improve the result. The remaining reels that already have symbols will not be re-spun. Type 3 slot games are not to be confused with the similar features of the Type 6, 'Tidal Wave.'

TYPE 4    Special S-Plus: After a specified symbol or symbol combination is hit, the game will pay the pay table amount,if any, for the combination. The game will then re-spin randomly until a regular pay combination is hit. If another special combination is hit while in this mode, the game will again pay the pay table amount, if any, and continue to re-spin again until a regular pay combination is hit.

TYPE 5    Special S-Plus: Enhanced Type 1 and 'Free Play' capability (the majority of requested Type 5 S-Plus pay tables do not have the 'Free Play' mode enabled, although this option is available). Multiple nudges consists of a maximum of three 'Nudge Up' symbols and/or a maximum of three 'Nudge Down' symbols: Upon any of these special symbols landing on the pay line, the game will 'nudge' the reel upwards one symbol, or 'nudge' the reel down one symbol. Depending on the Type 5 pay table theme, all the nudging symbols shall be graphically visible on the reels or all graphically blank in others.

TYPE 6    Special S-Plus: If a particular reel symbol lands above or below the pay line, the reel will re-spin to put the symbol on the pay line. If the symbol lands on the line, the reel is not re-spun. The remaining reels that do not have symbols on the pay line will repeatedly re-spin randomly in order to improve the result. The remaining reels that already have symbols will not be re-spun. Type 6 slot games are not to be confused with the similar features of the Type 3, 'Volcano' S-Plus.

TYPE 7    Special S-Plus: Winning combinations which include a special symbol are multiplied by a counter number which increments all wins. The counter range is operator selectable.

TYPE 8    Special S-Plus: Game references special pay combinations that will cause the reels to automatically re-spin and award the player the next lowest win level. Each spin in 'Count down to Cash' mode, will cause a separate pay to occur, until all lower pay levels have been hit.

TYPE 9    Special S-Plus: Hopper pays out a different denomination than the coin in ; game has the ability to handle 'tokens' out of the hopper. For each physical token paid out of the hopper, the coin out meters will be incremented by the value of the token. For example, if the token is 'worth' 10 quarters, than for each token paid out of the hopper, the coin out meters will increment by 10 instead of by 1. Certain reel stop combinations can also award a free play.

TYPE 10    An Interactive Stepper Slot Game - a skill stop reel is added to a normal slot game. The player must stop the skill stop reel in a win position to receive winnings randomly lined-up on the other reels. When no winning combination appears on the other reels, 1/10 of a credit is awarded for successfully stopping the reel.

TYPE 11    Special S-Plus: Game incorporates a second pull feature which allows the player one additional pull if a loss occurs on the first pull.

TYPE 12    Special S-Plus: When the specific symbol is detected on the payline AND maximum coins are played, a number of special games are awarded. The special games are played by betting the max. number of coins while in this mode. The payout on winning combinations for this special game are paid from a second, higher paytable. The game will alternate between the standard paytable and the special, higher paying paytable; in effect, the game that initiates special games from the standard game mode is paid from the standard paytable. When the special game initiator symbol is hit while playing a special game, that game is paid from the special paytable and the special games are awarded to the meter. Type 12, 'Tropical Fever' is not to be confused with the Type 22 S-Plus, 'Jungle Fever.'

TYPE 14    Special S-Plus: A Slot Tournament game, which normally possesses an extremely high percent pay back, due to the lack of 'ghost' symbols. Game is designed so that a number of slot players can compete against each other on a single bank or banks of machines for the most amount of credits, awards, winning combinations, and/or the most amount of progressive payouts each player can individually accumulate on their own machine. Type 14 Slot Games can operate in three modes: time limit only, credit only, or time limit and credit.

TYPE 15    Special S-Plus: Certain reels are spun dependent upon the previous game's outcome; special symbols are designated as reel holding symbols. Not to be confused with the Type 24 S-Plus, 'Hold-A-Reel'.

TYPE 16    Special S-Plus: As certain specific combinations land on the pay line during game play, one bonus light per coin bet will be turned on. When the fifth light is turned on the game will immediately go into a special game mode, of which the awards are one or more of a multiplicity of predetermined features: a bonus award, a number of feature games, a number of free feature games, a bonus plus a number of feature games, or a bonus plus a number of free feature games. When the bonus is paid in the case of paying a bonus only then the game will return to the normal play mode. In all other cases, the game will return to the normal play mode when the last feature game is played. This game also has the optional ability to incorporate the multiple reel / multiple direction features of the Type 5 slot game.

TYPE 17    Special S-Plus: When certain specific combinations land on the pay line, the game will then award from one or more of a multiplicity of predetermined features: a bonus award, a number of feature games, a number of free feature games, a bonus plus a number of feature games, or a bonus plus a number of free feature games. When the bonus is paid, in the case of paying a bonus only, the game will return to the normal play mode. In all other cases the game will return to the normal play mode when the last feature game is played. This game also has the optional ability to incorporate the multiple reel/multiple direction features of the Type 5 Game. The pay out for wins during the special feature mode will be equal to the normal pay out multiplied by a constant in the data EPROM.

TYPE 18    Special S-Plus: An Interactive Stepper Slot Game, which awards Type 5 reel 'nudging' choices to the player, depending upon the combination hit. If a certain combination is hit, up to four 'Nudges Available' lights are displayed (numbered '1','2','3' and '4'), with the illumination of the 'Nudge' light. The player may then choose to press any of the three 'Skill switches' and nudge down the particular reel that is associated with that Skill switch. At this point, if any nudges remain, the 'Nudge light' will remain lit and the next lowest, 'Nudges Available' light will be illuminated. Pressing the Spin switch at any time will cancel the nudges and proceed with the game. If the Top Award is spun to or nudged to, all nudges will be canceled so that the Top Award may remain.

TYPE 19    Special S-Plus: Game possesses a special fourth coin buy-a-pay feature. It is a 3-payline, 4-coin game. If only 3 coins were played and the top award is hit, the bonus amount is not awarded in addition to the top award. If 4 coins were played, then the bonus amount is paid in addition to the respective line pay for the top award. The fourth coin also buys a scattered win bonus amount, if the scattered symbol is truly scattered around he center payline. If the game is in the progressive mode, the progressive amounts are paid as a bonus as well as any other existing applicable line win amounts.

TYPE 20    Special S-Plus: For every play, the reels are evaluated and the game attempts to improve a non-winning reel combination or generate a higher paying winning combination, by re-spinning the farthest reel to the right, once. The last reel will never re-spin if the initial re-spin results in a lower paying winning combination or if it can result in the winning combination being lost completely.

TYPE 21    Special S-Plus: Combining the features of a Type 2 S-Plus, with Type 5's multiple reel nudging feature.

TYPE 22    An Interactive Stepper Slot Game. When the specific symbol is detected on the payline with max coins played, a number of special games are awarded and a game meter displays the number of special games awarded. The special games reference a second set of reel maps and a separate paytable with higher percentages. In normal game mode (when the special game meter is equal to zero), the standard reel maps and standard paytable are used. When less than maximum coins are played while there are special games available, the special game meter will not decrement, the standard reel map is used, and the standard paytable is referenced for the payouts. Type 22 'Jungle Fever' games are not to be confused with the Type 12 game, 'Tropical Fever.'

TYPE 23    Special S-Plus: A special feature has been added to the game to allow the data EPROM to determine which symbols will be nudged and in which direction they will be nudged. It is possible for any symbol ¿ including graphically blank symbols -- to nudge in any direction. Since any symbol could nudge in either direction, the symbols will lack graphic indicators that could show the player the direction the reel will nudge. In addition, if multiple nudges are awarded, the game will determine a random order in nudging the reels.

TYPE 24    An Interactive Stepper Slot Game, allowing the player to hold up to two reels. Reels not held are spun, offering the player a chance to construct a winning reel paying combination. Not to be confused with the Type 15 S-Plus, 'Hold Symbols.'

TYPE 25    Special S-Plus: When a specific combination is hit with max coins, the game pays varying coin amounts randomly, accompanied with special lighting and sound effects.

TYPE 26    Special S-Plus: When a specific combination is detected, the player is awarded the standard pay table amountand a number of special games, the number of which is limited to the number of coins or credits bet when these games were awarded. The payout on winning combinations for this special game are paid from a second, higher paying pay table. The game will not award any additional games until all the current special games are completed. In normal game mode (when the special game meter is equal to zero), the standard pay table is used.

TYPE 27    Type 0 Megajackpot (Wide Area Progressive) System S-Plus, with a single progressive level and an overhead wheel, partitioned into 11 different payout amounts. When a bonus spin symbol is hit on the third reel with maximum coins bet, the bonus wheel is spun. The bonus amount on the reel is then awarded to the player. WOG games can also utilize the features as found in S-Plus Types 1, 4, or 5. WOG games can also be configured and released in the 'Standalone' format. BONUS IS INITIATED ON THE THIRD REEL.

TYPE 27.1

TYPE 27.2    Auxillary VFD

TYPE 28    Special S-Plus: Pay table consists only of three progressive levels; winning combinations which are all buy-a-pay progressives. Game also uses progressive increment rates which are different for all progressives and vary according to the number of coins played.

TYPE 29    Type 0 Megajackpot (Wide Area Progressive) System S-Plus with a single progressive level and an overhead wheel, partitioned into 22 different payout amounts. When a bonus spin symbol is hit on the third reel with maximum coins bet, the bonus wheel is spun. The bonus amount on the reel is then awarded to the player. WoF games can also utilize the features as found in S-Plus Types 1, 4, or 5. WoF games can also be configured and released in the 'Standalone' format.

TYPE 29.1    This type number has replaced type 35, please use type 29.1 in place of type 35.
TYPE 29.2
TYPE 29.3
TYPE 29.4

TYPE 30    Special S-Plus: Game uses a base slot game with a n auxiliary gaming device connected above it. The Type 30 game awards a play of the auxiliary game when a bonus spin symbol in the base slot game lands on the third reel with max. coins bet. When the auxiliary game is played, the bonus amount won is awarded to the player. Type 30 slot games, as an option, can include features from the Game Types 0, 1, 4, or 5. The base stepper slot game is supplied by IGT, while the current configuration for the auxiliary device connected above it, is a flat-screen display of a video card game, as supplied by the I.G.C.A.

TYPE 31    An Interactive game based on the TV game show of the same name, offered under two formats: as a Megajackpot (Wide Area Progressive) System game, or as a 'Standalone' S-Plus game. This S-Plus machine will initiate the feature game when maximum coins are bet and either the 'Jeopardy!' or the 'Double Jeopardy!' symbol lines up on the pay line for the third reel. The 'Spin Reels or Play Jeopardy' button flashes and the theme music is played as the thirty bonus boxes in the top box light up. Once the player presses the Spin switch or pulls the handle, the bonus box lamps start turning off in a random pattern until only one award remains lit. The player is then awarded the indicated amount (doubled if in 'Double Jeopardy') with congratulatory theme music played in the background.

TYPE 32    An Interactive game of which a stepper slot base communicates with a top-mounted box which serves as the Barcrest 'Pinball' unit. When the special 'Pinball' symbol lands on the reels' payline, the game will initiate a special 'Pinball' mode. The player may fire up to 5 pinballs (this is a sequentially-lit display simulating the ball motion and ball direction) of which a lit pinball can land on a variety of different awards and are summed up for a final bonus award. The Bonus credits on the 'Pinball' unit are transferred to the S+ game where the player is paid the award. The amount of pinball rounds played are dependent upon the coins bet for that game: 1 coin = 1 round, 2 coins = 2 rounds and 3 coins = 5 rounds. The base cabinet's stepper slot machine is supplied by IGT, while the top-mounted pinball bonus display is supplied by Barcrest.

TYPE 33    An Interactive game in which the player participates in the bonus round. The bonus round is activated when a special symbol lands on the payline. During the bonus round four offers of varying dollar amounts are offered to the player. Each offer contains 1 - 4 different dollar amount combinations. There are two switches on the top glass which allows the player to 'take' or 'leave' the current offer. If the player 'leaves' an offer, another offer is presented to the player to once again 'take it' or 'leave it'. If the player leaves all offers, then the fourth (last) offer is automatically paid. The stepper slot machine is supplied by IGT, while the top-mounted 'Top Dollar' bonus display is supplied by Barcrest.

TYPE 34    An Interactive stepper slot machine of which a top-mounted box serves as the bonus feature for the slot game below it. The player participates in the bonus round. The bonus round is activated when a specific combination of symbols which contain up to two of the special symbols lands on the payline. During the bonus round the player is awarded a pay from the paytable, then the player is prompted to press the 'Hit' button which selects a multiplier (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 10) to multiply the pay with. If the combination of symbols contains two of the special symbols, then the player is allowed to press the 'Hit' button again and receive another multiplier. Both multipliers and the original award are multiplied to give a final win amount. IGT supplies the stepper slot base game, while Barcrest supplies the top-mounted bonus display.

TYPE 35    This type number is being replaced by 29.1, please use type 29.1 in place of Type 35." A Local Area Systems, Mikohn-Linked Progressive version of the Type 27 or Type 29: Wheel of Gold / Wheel of Fortune games. Currently, 'Wheel Winners' slot games have 22 stops within their bonus wheel, making the game structurally similar to a Type 29, Wheel of Fortune pay table, but paired with its own glass-graphics themes and cabinet design.

TYPE 36    A Megajackpot System S-Plus (a Wide-Area Progressive, Interactive, Joint-Venture game) consisting of a slant-top stepper slot machine, with a vertically-mounted pinball machine which is above and a part of the slant-top. If a special reel symbol lands on the pay line of the stepper slot game, the vertically-mounted pinball machine goes into action, under a self-playing routine which controls the path of the launched pinball. Each column corresponds to a reel on the base game: the first column corresponds to reel 1, etc. Additional columns show corresponding pay amounts for each row of symbols. All top box lights and sounds are turned off when no top box bonus is in play. When the top box is initiated music starts playing and lights are lit. For games following the initiating game, top box symbols that land on the line will be lit in the corresponding column. Play continues until all three symbols in any row are lit. There are also two buttons; one labeled 'Higher' and one labeled 'Lower.' The first current number displayed for each bonus round has an equal chance of being 12 or 1. Excluding the current number, subsequent values displayed have an equal chance of being from 1 to 12 inclusive. When the 12 or 1 is displayed, the player must push the appropriate button, higher for 1 or lower for 12, to continue. At the beginning of the bonus, the lowest pay amount on the ladder is lit. The number on the current number display will be lit on both columns of numbers. The player must press the higher or lower button to continue. Based on the player's choice, all of the appropriate values above or below the current number will be lit in the first column. The second column light goes up and down until landing on a new current number. Choosing correctly increases the pay, lighting the next higher pay amount on the ladder. The light on the first column moves to match the light on the second column and the player selects higher or lower again. Play continues until the player chooses incorrectly or when 14 correct choices have been made. The pay amount last reached on the pay ladder is awarded to the player.

TYPE 52    An Interactive Game of which a top-mounted secondary device serves as the bonus feature for the slot game below it. All of the trails have pay amount, 'Collect', and mystery locations. The start location on each trail is signified by a square encompassing a pay amount. The mystery location is indicated by a question mark. In addition, the first two trails have symbol locations relating to the next trail available for play. When the bonus is initiated the start position on the lowest trail is highlighted and the pay amount listed is added to the win meter. The player presses the 'SPIN' button on the machine to roll the die. The die roll amount will be displayed on the trail in a clockwise direction. For each type of location on which the die roll lands, one of four things may happen: 1: A Pay Amount - The amount is added to the win meter. The die is rolled again. 2: Collect - The bonus ends and the total on the win meter is awarded to the player. 3: Mystery (?) - The 'Continue/Collect' sign flashes and there is a 50/50 chance that the bonus game will continue or end. When 'Collect' is highlighted, the bonus ends and the total on the win meter is awarded to the player. When 'Continue' is highlighted, the die is rolled again. 4: A Trail Symbol - One of the symbols on the trail symbol counter is lit. When the third trail symbol is lit, the start location of the next higher trail is highlighted and the amount is added to the bonus meter. The die is rolled again. The total numbers of die rolls completed without hitting a collect is highlighted on the die roll counter. Bonus play continues until a collect is hit or until the die has been rolled 30 times without hitting a collect. When the die has been rolled 30 times without hitting a collect, a special bonus award of 500 is added to the win meter, the bonus ends, and the total on the win meter is awarded to the player.

TYPE 53    An Interactive Game of which a top-mounted secondary device serves as the bonus feature for the Slot game below it. The bonus is initiated by three BP symbols on a played line. The top box display has a game board with 54 squares, an offer meter, each of the six sides of a die, a 'Roll the Dice' button and a 'Take Offer' button. The game board includes 40 bonus amount squares as well as: 6 Knight squares, 6 Dragon squares, a Start square, and a 'Red Hot Roll' square. The bonus begins with the first roll of the die made automatically by the machine. From the start position, the marker moves forward the number of squares equal to the roll amount. When the marker lands on a square with a bonus amount, the player has the option of collecting the award with the 'Take Offer' button or continuing the bonus round by rolling the die again. Bonus amounts do not accumulate. When the marker lands on a square with a Knight, the marker is moved to a position higher on the board. The player has the option of collecting the bonus amount with the 'Take Offer' button or continuing by rolling the die again. When the marker lands on a square with a Dragon, the marker is moved to a position lower on the board. The bonus amount is awarded to the player and the bonus ends. If the marker lands on one of the lower bonus amount squares without landing on a Dragon first, the square is played as noted above. The player can continue rolling the die until the marker lands on a Dragon or the 'Red Hot Roll' square. If the marker reaches the 'Red Hot Roll' square, an automatic die roll determines which of six bonus amounts at the top of the board the player will receive. The bonus amount is awarded and the bonus ends. The marker will land on the 'Red Hot Roll' square even when the roll exceeds the number of squares between the marker and the square. (For example: A roll of 6 from position 46 will land the marker on position 48.)
