I can verify this one.  I just set up a tokenized machine -- you have to use the SET086 first to set the token value (2 to 99 credits per coin), then you later use that option to actually enable tokenization.  I used the SET086 to set it for 25 credits per coin (it was a quarter machine, but now you get 25 credits per quarter, making it a penny machine).  Then I changed the option to enable tokenization, and it worked!

Thats sort of what tokenizatin is all about. You might setup your machine to use $5.00 tokens but cash out in dollars or quarters.

It's for both.  If I have 76 credits and press the cash out button, it will spit out three quarters and then one credit will remain on the machine.  That credit cannot be cashed out -- either it needs to be played, or could (I suppose) be hand-paid by an attendant.

That's news to me in regards to an S+.  There was no option to do that, and I'm not sure how that would work as coins inserted typically go to the hopper.  Even at the casino, the tokenized nickel games there use dollar coins, and only pay out in dollar coins (with the same remainder credit issue as I posted in the paragraph above).

If you hit cash out a second time what happens?  If it cannot cash out wouldn't go to a hand pay?

Oddly enough, it does nothing.  In fact, when it cashes out all of the tokens it can (in my case, quarters) and there's a fractional token amount remaining, the light on the cash/credit (or "cash out") button turns off, and you can press the button until you're blue in the face, but it won't do anything unless you have more than (in my case) 25 credits on the machine.  I would think that there would be a shortcut to removing the credits in the event of a hand pay of a fractional token value, but I haven't seen it documented anywhere.

With A video or at least WMS,you can set it up for all fractional money will give you a spin of the wheel on the screen and if you loose,it's gone or if you win you receive 1 whole credit. A good way to avoid small hand pays

By any chance can you set your hopper limit to 0 and be force into a hand pay?

I suppose, but then I wouldn't be able to cash out any coins, even if I had more than 25 credits, right?  To be clear, the problem of not being able to clear out the remaining fractional token value isn't a big deal at all for me -- I'm just a home user playing the machine for fun.  I can see it being more of a headache if it was used in a casino.

I don't see an SP1309 on the list. Did I miss seeing it ?

I was thinking about putting a 16 meg board in my Sierra Silver with an SP 1309 Eprom to liven it up a bit. It seems to nudge too slowly when compared to the nudge machines I play at our local casino.  Will this help ?

I realize that the S+ ( 10 meg board with an SP 1271 Eprom) machine that I have is not as smart as today's machines, but I wish it were a bit snappier in the nudge mode.

By the way, having The Harrah's Chester (Pa.) Casino located a quarter (1/4) of a mile from my employer makes for some very, very,very expensive lunch breaks . I'm in the process of setting up a Direct Paycheck Deposit to Harrah's Casino, so I don't have to stand there pushing the Max Bet button over and over till my money is gone....

What is the difference between and Sp chip and an SP0 chip?

To add to Jay's post.  ST chips actually have two paytables in them, the tournament paytable and a "Normal" mode paytable.  When not in tournament mode, the ST behaves as a regular SS chip as listed in the tournament page in the bible here.  To use an ST chip, you will need a game prom that supports both types of reel data in the chip, though I'm pretty sure that all tourney reels are type 0,14 only, though most game proms support the other "popular" types as well.  As far as SP0, I have no idea other than speculate with Jay's idea.

Thanks Rick and Jay. So, if I understand correctly, all I have to look for is a Type 0, 14 Sp chip to match to match up to each ST chip?
As for the SP0 question, I have noticed some labbeled SP0730 vs. SP730.  I was wondering if there was a difference other than their numbering convention?

I may be wrong here, but I am pretty sure you need an SP Chip which supports Tournament mode (ie SP1148, SP1153, SP1311).  A regular SP will not recognize the dual Paytables in the ST reel chips.  So you can't expect to use just any Type 0,1 SP to run an ST chip.

Eric there should be no difference in a bin file named SP0731 vs SP731

The value in using the 0 is so if you had a directory full of files and were sorting by name....

SP731 would show up AFTER SP1271 which we intuitively know is wrong but the computer sorting by name sees that the 7 is larger than the 1 and sorts accordingly.

However SP0731 would show up correctly due to the leading 0.  The 0' however adds no further value.
