How do you remove this clip?

I need to change out a reel basket and I'm not sure how to remove the center clip.

Suggestions please?

Take a flat head screw driver or the butt end of and Xacto and bend up a couple of the tines.  Don't over force and break them off.  When read to reassemble take some pliers and put it back into shape before putting it back onto the hub.

When you go to reassemble the basket/clip--Take the clip and put on a solid surface and  flatten it with a hammer etc.. This puts the "prongs" back will they grip and is the way they come factory.  Takes much less time than pliers -Though pliers wil work as well but the flatness of the retainer being re-established enables all the prongs to secure to the hub shaft.  Works every time--Try it.  B.

Perfect! They are easy to bend for sure, but making them flat (hammering) makes the stick just like new!

As someone that works with a lot of pinball machines, I can tell you I have lost MANY clips in my days!

These same clips are sold at your local hardware/automotive store.  I deal with them daily (the clips).  No big deal a far as your initial question as they are re-useable --Unless they pop out of there and are MIA as stated earlier.   B.
