Hey Everyone,

Quick question.  As you may have read in my last thread, my CEI Video Poker 904/23.9 game has been restored and is functional again.  Aside from the game board change, I did replace all fuses (3 on the motherboard, and 1 on the monitor) with the same fuses as before.

As seen in the video below, you'll notice that there is some static on the screen.  This only occurs on a cold start/initial power up of the machine. This static does eventually go away after about 2 minutes (not 5-10 minutes as I stated in the video).  My question is could this be related to the fuses that I replaced or does this seem more like a minor problem related to the board, like a bad solder, trace, etc?  Like I said, once it heats up, it's fine.

Your .02 would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Static. Static is caused sometimes by AC line noise that comes from a florescent ballast, AC motor (like a fridge), or other things. You might want to get a really good "line conditioner" or AC noise filter. Also, extra grounding inside of the CEI poker unit itself wouldn't hurt. maybe someone else has a more logical explanation.

Just for grins, I did throw all of the original fuses back in...no change.  The only change at this point is the original chips from my old board in the new board that dormi sent to me.  I pulled the board and made sure the chips were firmly seated.  It's certainly not a big deal.  I have always had this machine and my IGT slot plugged into a Monster Power Center.  It's not a line conditioner per se, but it offers great protection.  I would think that if it was a noise issue, it would always be there, and not go away within a couple of minutes.  I'll check the flourescent lights too.  Thanks!

This was a board specific issue with the replacement board that dormi sent to me.  He ended up working on my original board and replaced some ufd bypass capacitors, and U37 (LM311) ended up being shot.  This IC is part of the reset circut, and I guess that's what killed the board.  He also replaced the main battery.  At any rate, my game is running perfect now, and the boot up static is gone now that I'm using my repaired original board.
