When I bought this Game King, I thought the guy had done a great job of cleaning it
because the insides were pretty nice. After a week in my home though, it seems the
smoke smell is pretty hard to get rid of. When the machine is turned off, the fan isn't
running so the smell isn't too noticeable.

How do you guys "de-smoke" your machines? Or is is something I have to live with?
Thanks for any input....

I don't know for sure but a buddy of mine put a couple of those fabric softener sheets in his table top games because of the smoke smell and he claimed that it not only got rid of the smell but the new smell was pleasant.

I guessing the guy cleaned your machine but never cleaned the fan?
Check the fan out.
Stick an open package of baking soda in the topbox.
Baking soda absorbs odors.
My mother used to have some in her refrigerator when I was a kid.

I never thought to check it...the CPU fan was caked over....shut down...clogged. Gross.
I'll try the fabric softener sheets after I gag my way through cleaning the fan.....

Thanks!

If you can, clean the inside with Simple Green, that might take out the odor. Then use ArmorAll sponges to shine up the inside, you won't recognize it after. Replacing the fan(s) will help also.

FaBreeze...you mean just spray it inside the machine? I guess I could wait for it to dry
before turning it back on....is that what you mean?

My God...cleaning that CPU fan was not unlike changing a two-year olds diaper after a meat loaf dinner.....&%$@!!

I feel like such a goober after responding to the FaBreeze suggestion....duh....of course I'll turn it off before spraying
it. I forget how easy it is to type before thinking....

Thanks for taking the time to help out....appreciate it!

Use Ozium. It is specifically for removing any smell, especially smoke.
Hope this helps.

I've never heard of Ozium before, but after a quick search on line, it appears to be the best at smoke odor removal.
I'll try to find some......

Thanks again everyone for the tips!

You should be able to get it at any drug store. You might even find it at a grocery store.
Let us know how it works out.

Just don't over do it with the ozium, it will stink in and of itself if you use too much.

Funny Story about Ozium:

Back in the day when my Dad was a Smoker he used to keep Ozium in the car. I did not care much for it, but it did work good. My Dad was out of the car, and me and a friend were in the car doing things teenagers do, namely "farting up a storm!" Well my friend came up with a real doozey! I was gassed for sure. It smelled so bad that I grabbed for the "Ozium" and gave it several really good squirts (TOO MUCH OZIUM IS A BAD THING BTW!!!) in the enclosed Lincoln Town Car! Help Help Help  It only took seconds for us to have severe breathing problems, nausea, a hacking cough, puking, runny noses, tearing eyes.... We had to bail out of the car for some fresh air, but were still having problems for over a half hour or so.... My Dad and his business associates were laughing their asses off!!!  bust gut laughing bust gut laughing bust gut laughing

That was the day that I learned that Ozium comes in a similar canister as my Dad's restricted Military Version of a CS style tear gas!!!!  Duh! Duh! Duh! gasmask gasmask gasmask wtf1 Back then Ozium even had the 1/2 twist safety trigger sprayer, just like mace!

To this day if I smell Ozium I almost Puke!!!!!!!!!!! Cry Laughing Cry Laughing Cry Laughing

Attached is a picture of the small compact .8oz bottle in question! Way back then the Mace was in very similar containers! frying pan bawling vomit vomit vomit ill Crying Eyes Crying Eyes

CH CaptainHappy

P.S. I hope this gave someone a vew laughs... I bet Tacman pissed himself laughing so hard! Cry Laughing

Thanks guys.

Frustrated....I bought one of those air fresheners for 99 cents and stuck it inside
the machine. I have to say...not being wild about the scent of the thing...it has masked
the smoke smell and made the experience better.

I will pick up the Ozium this weekend....

The best way I found to clean a machine is with "Greased Lightning".  Its a heavy duty cleaner that I buy at Lowes and it disolves all that brown tobacco film inside the machine.  Its a gross job that takes several hours to do, but I found that you have to get rid of the source instead of masking it.  I definetly recommend wearing gloves too, that Greased Lightning will eat your hands up.
On my upright I game, there is also a small fan right next to the cpu board that you will have to clean.  If you take out the board, the fan is located on the right side.  Its a total bitch to take out unless your a midget with a stubby phillips screwdriver. Mine was caked up pretty bad.
Have fun!!!!!!!!

Greased Lightning sounds what I'm looking for. Does it have any negative effects on the wiring or electronics? Or do I
have to strip the machine out. I can see the brown staining you mentioned....gross.

You're right....masking it is a short term solution.

Thanks!

No, you dont have to strip out the machine and it wont hurt the wires.  The way I do it is to remove as many obstacles as possible, hopper, glass, bill validator, cash can and whatever.   First UNPLUG THE MACHINE, remove the parts you can, then spray a damp towel with the Greased Lightning and wipe down a small section.  Your towel will be full of that brown crap in no time. Then wipe down that small section with a dry towel.
When I get done with the whole machine I leave the door open and let it dry overnight - just to be on the safe side.
The job is a total pain in the ass but well worth it

I'll try it. How toxic are the fumes from this stuff? Can it be done inside? I've got a couple
of parrots I have to be careful with...

Hey Ed...it was magic! After the machine dried out, we plugged it in....and on the
fourth hand...swear to God....it dealt us a royal flush!

First one ever dealt to me. I think this pile of metal and wire was saying thanks...

AND....the stink is gone!
