Howdy,

I know this is probably a dumb question, but is VGA standard for all Game Kings? I am in awe
at how much better the games look with a LCD in it now....but am wondering if the video signal
could be improved any? Or do I have to go to I-Games to get better resolution?

Thanks for any thoughts on it.

Yes, I am also curious about resolution.  I've noticed Jim's (Bettorslots) GK 6.0 video of the poker games, and it appears that the characters on the cards (JQK) are sharper in image that what is on my 5.3 game.  Now I understand I have an older 17 inch CRT, and I'm assuming Jim has an LCD in his game, but is it the monitor that will make the difference or is it a difference between the versions of software?  Still on the fence about buying an LCD for my GK.

Thanks,
Jason

The difference is in the signal being processed...analog compared to digital...the LCD has a A-D board that processes the analog signal & "turns" it into a digital signal.  On a CRT the only way to adjust the resolution is through the flyback (HV adjust & one or two focus adjustments), though there might be a potentiometer or two for minor adjustments on the main board.

Another problem might be the burn on a CRT...sometimes it is hard to adjust the focus for a sharp image if the phosphorus on the inside of the screen has had an image sitting in one spot and shows it's "ghost" when powered down...there is no way to restore the phosphorus once it has been burnt off of the tube...that's why computer monitors are set up with a screen saver that "floats" all over the raster, you still get the burn but it is all over the raster, so it isn't noticed...

Hope this helps...

God bless,
Mike><>

Actually in that video you are looking at the 25-pin digital signal CRT version of the I-game Plus (not the 19 pin that you likely have).   Not an LCD and you can always tell this when watching a video when you see the horizontal band that travels vertically up the screen....you don't see this if you were in front of the machine....but only in a video....this is a result of the frame rate of the recording.

Thanks guys.  So Jim, can an LCD be installed if I only have a 19 pin (which I do btw) or do I need to have a 25 pin?

Yes it can and the change in picture quality is dramatic.  This picture and video below shows a Wells Gardner installed in a I-game Plus machine with a 19-pin.  Notice how in this video you do not see the horizontal banding in the video.

Jim, which version of GK software were you using in this video?  It appears to be 5.3 like the one that I have.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/xVIjPYlcmmc&rel=0" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/xVIjPYlcmmc&rel=0</a>

In this video, you are running 6.0:

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/jmZPcyTh26Q&rel=0" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/jmZPcyTh26Q&rel=0</a>

Just curious if the same monitor was used for both games...looks like the poker game card (JQK) have better graphics, at least from what I can tell...so is it a difference in the games?

Jim, plus as a sidenote, I noticed that there is a flashing candle light behind the topper of the game that I asked might be a 5.3 game.  Perhaps, it correlates to my topic here?  http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=8710.0

Not to derail the topic here...just a comment.

The camera I use emits a red light out the front...you are just seeing that reflection.  I have followed that other post and I do not have a good answer yet.  I do have a theory however. I have bumped into this issue a couple of times on other I-game programs.  One that comes to mind is an international version of Stinken Rich where even though SAS Standard is selected, after the first cash out the bottom light starts to flash as an indicator to casino staff that there is a SAS communication failure.  This should never come up when you are using SAS Standard which indicates to me a failure in the software code when it was written.  It was probably never caught as most all casinos use some form of secure validation setting.  Again....just a possibility / theory.

With that said, you are both looking over an obvious solution since you know the software continues to function even with the light flashing.  Since you are not a casino, and have no care really what information is being indicated by the candle my advice would be to disassemble the candle from the top and remove the bulb...I won't tell anyone if you don't.

bust gut laughing LOL...I know, I know.  Many of us strive for perfection here...I do also.  But the truth is....like all appliances in our lives....cars, dishwashers, clothes dryers, TV's, computers, etc., nothing ever quite works perfectly or all the time.  "The whole world is built on a shim" I always say....sometimes you just have to rig things to your liking and other times you just have to learn to live with the little imperfections in our lives.
