« on: July 21, 2010, 02:23:48 AM »

Just picked up a non-working D-J Haywire. Some things I think I have figued out but would like to verify. After repairng the missing spring on the coin comparitor, and making a note to myself to find a cash box {missing]  I fired it up, press test button, turn reset key. It started to work somewhat,no sound and as i put in quarters it kept taking them, [ I did not venture past 4 } Payout did not follow award glass in any way. I removed reels and checked strip alignment, no problem here, I removed board and looked up reel prom-SS7103- It seems that would be for a 9 line double diamond not a double Jackpot haywire. Should be SS4696. I assume someone pit in the wrong board or at the least chip. The game prom is a sp1271. Can i just find a correct chip and just replace the reel prom ? And I think my next step would be to trace down the speaker wire. Am i correct ?And where can I find the right chip ? Stiill a newbe. Thanks If anyone has another direction please let me know.

If you have a 2 coin DJ Haywire, then SS4969 would be the best chip you could get. However, the really high-paying chips aren't always out there. Regardless of any other problems that you machine might have, you will need to get the correct SS chip for your game, so I would start there. Just get the highest percentage that our vendors have available. If you don't already have a Set chip, you might want to pick one up while you're at it... and a clear as well. propeller

Post a WTB in the classifieds. Our vendors peruse those on a regular basis.

Also, the Double Jackpot Haywire game only works with a 10Mhz board.
There's a couple of ways you can identify this board.
One way is there's a volume control potentiometer dial on top of the MPU board.
They're usually round and blue in color.
You'll also identify the board by seeing 10MHz imprinted on
each of the two silver radio crystal board components.  yes

That's a 10mhz board.  S+ MPU boards came in two flavors only, 10mhz and 16mhz.  The 10mhz boards have the blue volume dial.  The 16mhz boards do not.

I remember trying known working Double Jackpot Haywire reel/game
prom chips in a 16MHz board and got reel errors.
It's been a long time but I think it was the Type 2,21 SP1274
in combo with the SS4698 reel chip.

When combined with an Type 2,21 SP873 on a 16MHz board -
the game worked much better.
No reel errors.

There are many more SP chips that are Type 2,
but I didn't have them all to test on the two variations of the S+ MPU boards.

Ok, today I physically traced the speaker wires to the bottom board no breaks found. I removed the main board turned the volume control up and down and fliped the  set switches back and forth. Put everything back together and had sound for about 4 cycles then it stopped making sound. Any ideas ? Next question ,right now the game prom is a sp1271 what do I need for a haywire game, and what set chip and clear chip. I found information on here for the reel chips [bible] is there a link for the other information. Thanks

Well,
First of all, the dip-switches on the MPU board are invalid
for the game prom SP1274 that you do not have installed.
The SP1271 is the wrong chip for a Haywire game.
Anyways, either the SP1271 or the SP1274 game proms bypasses those dips.

The SP1274 works well with SET088 and SET091 Set chips and your Haywire game.
You will need any one of these to enable the bill acceptor,
(By the way needs to be ID-023 for your machine)
the bill acceptor pay modes ( pay from hopper, convert bills to credit,
follow the player-initiated credit, and to change or set any denomination modifications.
Should you decide to install a mini-display for progressive later on and
want to program it, you will need a SET chip as well.

I'm thinking that maybe the tiny braided wire that attaches to
the black paper of the speakers has come loose.
Maybe it's time for new speakers...?
There's definitely a loose connection somewhere whether it's broken wiring or
weakened female receptor pins or oxidized male pin contacts.
That's pretty the only reason I can think of that is giving you intermittent speaker sounds.
With the proper PSR for you SP1274 game prom - you should be able to
use it to find out how to get into the sound tests.

Will the SP1271 support a type 2 game? I see that on the chip it says 0/1/4/5/19 . I will continue to check continuity on wiring . Thanks for the help.

No, you need the SP1274 for a Type 2,21 Haywire game.
I edited my earlier post to correct this.

The SP1274 will not play the music when in haywire mode no  You need a SP779 or SP873 or SP1146 to hear the bonus music.  I think Scratch Head
