There is no mother board for a S Slot, the MPU is Wired in using 3 edge connectors, if you are taking about a MPU (or CPU) Yes the S and S+ have different ones, and ther are several versions and revisions of them

While we're on this topic, ...I have always wondered about the different IGT MPU board revisions.
Are these boards at all ...(besides being 10MHz  and 16MHz) ....game specific? Scratch Head

The Barcrest has to Run the 16 Mhz, I believe that is where the 16 MHZ design originally came from, but then was widely adapted to other machines not game dependent but for options, I remember MGM had 16 Mhz boards in the Slant Tops for the reel stop click that was not present with the 10 Mhz board since there was no handle

That's pretty good memory there from way back!
But I may have a least 6 different kinds of 16MHz boards for example...why so many revised 16MHz boards?
The boards even change color too. Some were dark green while others are yellow.
Seems like IGT's board makers moved lot of diodes and chips around.
I have 16MHz boards that have empty chip holders ...while others are missing chips entirely, or have re-arranged wiring/routing (tinned under the surface), some boards have larger capacitors while others have smaller ones.
...but still work when using different SS and SP chips.
I'm sure that some 16MHz revisions were being more game specific? No?

I don't recall many different 16 meg boards, but there were many different revisions of the 10 meg boards over the years, some tanish brown, most green, some brighter than others, most all IGT stuff even today is always backwards compatible even if adapter boards are needed, the first S+ had no BV and no player tracking, so as systems developed I am sure they revised better design, the same hold true with the S-2000 today with different part number boards all will work, but do get better as newer revisions come along, I can not recall any newer software not working in an older S+ board, I am sure one reason for different components is that component availability over a 10 year period changed drastically and device manufacturers have to make changes in design to adapt to component manufacturers available products
