I haven't met a Jackpot that I didn't like!!!

« Reply #3 on: September 21, 2008, 01:26:36 PM »

A couple of good hits from my last multi-week trip to Reno. 2's dealt was not on "MY FAVORITE" machine as it was locked out one night during them doing flooring construction, but the Royal was on "MY" machine at the Atlantis. Luckily as well this was not a "TAXING" trip!!!  Wink Wink It took alot of  money money money to get these, but you gotta pay to play. I still left up overall for the trip though!  applause If it was not for the pictured Royal... things would have been worse! The pictured Royal when I was down to about $20+ before I would again run out of dough in the gambling budget! I had even dropped a card that gave me 4 to a flush so that I could go for 3 to the royal instead! It finally worked ROYALY!  yes

On my last night of gambling for the trip, I had been playing Triple Double Bonus for hundreds of dollars hoping to get the ACEs with the Kicker, or the 2's3's4's with the Kicker, but it was just not happening. I was down to my last $12 (was the same night as the royal, but I had a ticket for over $1000 put away for cashing upon leaving!!! Not for gambling!!) on the machine, so I went to Bonus Poker Deluxe as a HAIL MARY. (BPD pays 400 coins for ANY 4 of a kind, so I thought it may give me some more money to play with... Only problem with BPD is if you get a hand that would be a big payer on some of the other more generous bonus games you tend to get a bit upset...... But I never turn down any pay of course!!!) WELL the worst thing you could ever happen to you on BPD happened!!! Just a few hands after leaving TDB for BPD I was on my absolute last hand and the credit meter was down to a whopping $0.00, what did I get dealt????? 4 F muted muted G ACES WITH A KICKER!!! The absolute worst GOOD hand to get on that game! On TDB ACEs with the Kicker pays the same as a ROYAL!!!  yes propeller yes  SO I ended up getting $300.00 vs. $3000.00 because of the game I just switched to a minute before - Like I say, I never turn down a win, but I can bitch and cry about it though!  bawling bust gut laughing rotflmao I always say if I was on the other game, it might not have been dealt! I accidentally forgot to get a picture of the worst hand... but a couple minutes later one of my slot attendant friends came by so I asked him to bring up the play history screen. He was quite impressed when I talked him through the menus to bring this screen up!!! He said I know the machines and menu's better than they do!  bust gut laughing I told him that I practice alot on my machines at home!!! I also said that I resisted using my key to bring it up myself!  bust gut laughing bust gut laughing bust gut laughing (SERIOUS EDITORIAL NOTE: Never use your "keys" in real NEVADA CASINOS!! Can you say FELONY??? Just brought it up here jokingly!)

The good news is that the $300 from the dealt any 4 of a kind gave me some money for some more play time in search of a great hit... Made for a fun conclusion to the gambling trip... A couple hundred later though!  rotflmao No repeat performance, and I wanted to leave up overall for the trip, so I left! Thats my recent sad and HAPPY story!

Wow Captain, those are great hits!! I totally feel your pain on getting a natural 4 Aces with the kicker on the wrong game! hissy fit  On TBD that's the largest jackpot possible. bawling
Glad to hear that you managed to get your money back and some of theirs though - that's always a good way to leave a casino.

Now that you're home you can relax and recuperate from your long trip with lots of hard work. rotflmao

Sunset Station....
I love how the sun never quite "sets" inside the place.
Actually it's a pretty awesome place.
It's amazing what you can win (and lose) on so-called "Penny" machines hahaha.
People used to get upset betting 3 quarters on "Wheel of Fortune" but will bet 250 coins on a "penny" machine, (oh hell I am one of them!)

I hit one of these earlier this year @ the local indian casino - on my b'day even...
Not up to the big fake check status - but nothing to "sneeze" at either...
(My wife got one too on her B'day...)  (The income tax return is going to be complicated this year...)

Gotta love those $1.00 "Quickhit" Bally machines...

Not necessarily. Racergiant, if you hit at a casino at which you play regularly and have been using a slot card, they will be able to give you a statement of win/loss at the end of the year that will show your annual total. That will help you significantly if you've been losing there all year. You have to ask for the statement, though. You can also request loss statements from any other casinos that you have frequented as long as they tracked your play. All of your annual losses can be used to offset this win.

Here in Canada we can apply to get the tax back, lots of services offer to do this, the cost is about $1800. Which is a scam. Escentially it means filing a US tax return. Up here the cost of a tax preparer to file US taxes is about $800, (which is still a rip off) but because it means co-ordinating it with our Canadian taxes and filing a bunch of non-standard forms most US preparers like H&R Block have never seen them.

The US and Canada have a tax pack such that we get a foreign tax credit. Ie We declare our world wide earnings on the US Tax return. In the US filing we have to Claim our W2G but get to deduct interest paid on the home, spouse and kids. In canada when we do our taxes, winnings are tax free, but there is no deduction for mortgage interest and our nominal tax rate is more like 44%. We then take what we pay in Canadian taxes and apply that to the US return as a foreign tax credit and don't end having to pay any US taxes, and subsequently we get refunded the W2G withholding.

Of course if you won a big progressive this only shelters you from a bit.....

I wonder if I could get a statement and use it for my taxes this spring? Scratch Head

Keep in mind that as far as U.S. taxes go, you have to claim your gambling winnings above the line as income and take your gambling losses as an itemized deduction (so you lose out if you don't itemize). You can only deduct losses up to the amount of winnings claimed. i.e., you can only negate paying taxes on winnings; you cannot deduct losses. It's a way of enforcing moral standards and behavior through taxation. The government doesn't want you to gamble in casinos, but they do want you gamble on the stock market, so they let you offset losses against wins on a separate form (sch D) and only transfer the end result to your 1040, which is beneficial to you. They also let you deduct actual losses and carry over excessive amounts towards future wins.

The only way around it is to become a professional gambler (major audit alert !!) If you set up a business then you can claim gambling losses, travel, food, etcetera as business expenses, but you'd better show a profit in the long run just like any business venture. You'll have to keep very detailed records of all activity. You'd also better be playing games that can be beaten such as blackjack, table poker, sports book betting, track betting, or maybe video poker if you only play games paying over 100%.
