Has anyone experienced problems using the 3902 adapter in an 044 board?

I got my game working but it crashed randomly while playing the game.   The screen scrambled and froze then the thing rebooted with an eeprom error.    I can clear it but the error occurred twice.

My gut tells me it's just because of the adapter board.  If the eeprom was really corrupt it wouldn't work at all right?

The sure fire way, but really sucks is to remove the 044 and put the 3902 back in and try it that way. One hour of your time for piece of mind.               "You can Do It"

munch,

If I remember correctly you had Hex working ok in the adapter board??? Or have I ASSumed wrong? I would install play a different game for a while and see if the error occurs as well with a different game on your adapter board. Also check the battery level. You never know...

I would also suggest if you can get a hold of another base chip to try it... meaning different eprom. It could be possible that the Base chip eprom has some issues... I have had that happen on 3902 games in the past.

I have only done the legacy board with 3902 programs as I do not yet have a "working" 044 Flash Board! Duh! bawling hissy fit So far I have not had any problems.

Yes I have hex and a few others that work fine - however they all only have three Simms and two gme chips.
This is the first game that has all 5 simms and 4 chips.

I'll try your suggestion about the base chip - thanks

I will also try the game in a 3902 mpu - but I'll do that in a few weeks - just too busy
Now to swap out the boards.

I'll swap out the base chip when I get home tonight.    I turned the machine on and it has the pixel signature error - It must be saved on the eeprom and requires a 28 clear chip to work.

The correct Keychip would be KEY 40

OK - I think I solved the problem  -

All my games thus far only had three simms.    Snow Globes has 5.

Anyway to make a long story short  -  I figured the problem must be one of the two simms sockets that I've never used before.  I blew in the sockets like an old nintendo game and it now works just fine.

I just read that Key 40 is for new and old legacy games and that key 28 is for new 044 games only.

How come key 28 is clearing the legacy games?  What am I missing?

Good question but I use the 28 all the time and have never had a problem.  The 40, if used in a legacy adapter will give the old key chip menus where you have to use the reset key and the test button on the mpu to do the clears.  The 28 is easier since it's all touch screen menu driven.

Sure the 28 will clear, but many here forget that there are operators looking at threads here and use the Keychip function to change percentages and options often without clearing, you can't use KEY 28 with the Legacy Adapter after game is installed to Keychip, not everybody wants the 98% payback, I wish there was a frequently asked question tab for Keychips here, as many people are getting confused with the info about Keychips on the Videos as not many posters use the actual Keychip function, just the Clearing functions and then others can't figure out why it won't work, there is no one "fit-all" just because it Clears the Ram dancing 2

It crashed again Sad do you think the wrong key could be the cause?  The game was up and running for a good 4 or 5 hours.  It reboot sometime during the night.

I dont have any experience with these machines however .....
Spontaneous reboots without anyone touching the machine sounds like a power supply issue.
If it was just a loose adapter I would expect to see more problems during normal play when you are touching the machine, hopper causing vibration but when its just sitting and reboots .....
Could also be a heat issue.....

Jim, start a thread and post the information any way that you'd like. Make as many back to back posts as you like as well. I'll sticky it, and even lock it, if necessary to prevent endless question and answer postings that would make it hard to browse in the future. It could always be unlocked briefly by request to make any changes or updates.

If you want to have ready access, we can leave it unlocked with a warning not to post there, and then delete any posts that show up.

For this you would need to list many combinations of the software.  There are different versions of each game, and different key chips are specified for different software.  for example: iGame 3902 software(just a few of many):
TEXAS TEA   5R-9L   Single                2 bonus   I0000530   G0001060   C0000596   DSS00025   C0000596   KEY00017
TEXAS TEA    5R-9L   MD3                 2 bonus   I0000968   G0001563   C0001051   DSS00229   C0001051   KEY00022
TEXAS TEA (NJ)   5R-9L   MD3           2 bonus   I0000968   G0001670   C0001051   DSS00229   C0001051   KEY00026

Just a thought.

Thanks,
