X-50 No Wires?

Hey there, I have 3 x IGT S-Plus. When I got them they all have a X-50 Coin comparator in them. And they work. Well they accept any coin you put in them, but that is fine. What is weird is there is no wires connected to them at all? Nothing... no where.. There are wires going in the optics board, but not the comparator it self? Is this normal? I thought the MPU would need to see a pulse from the comparator first before the optics pulses in order for the machine to accept a credit? Does it work by Inductance? Threw the coil near the bottom of the unit?


Any info would be great..

check the Q2 or Q4 on the optic board - most likely they are cut off -  so your coin comparitor is basically just a coin acceptor.

Yeah I look at the Q2 and Q4.. Only see Q2 which has a micro transistor or something there.. weird.. I will take some pics of it..

IS this something you can do on all machines?  Just use the optics board and not the comparator at all?

On an S+, yes, the machine doesn't care about the comparator, only the optics.

Keep in mind, however, that inside the optics assembly is a plastic guide to make the falling coins hit all of the optics.  If you dropped a dime in there, because of how narrow it is it would have a good chance of not hitting all three optics and would cause a coin-in error, or just not credit at all.  The S+ is not designed to take multiple sized coins in the same machine.

awesome.. thanks for the tip> that is much different from the bally's machine. So I guess I can disconnect power to the comparator in on of my machines and see what happens.

The comparators have a rake built in that divert (reject) coins to the tray when they don't have power, so you'd need to bend the rake out of the coin path to get coins to bypass the comparator and still make it through to the optics.

Keep in mind, with that setup it will be possible to drop "extra" coins past the optics.  On a three coin game, if you drop a 4th coin in before spinning, the machine will attempt to spit a coin out of the hopper after the spin is completed.  If you don't have a hopper in the machine, that will create a problem.  There may also be a point where too many extra coins in could cause a tilt (but I'm not positive about that).
