It works in XP as I set one up about 3 months ago via XP.

Just run the program in a dos window.

Was documented on the old site about how to get things going in terms of settings but it's a simple program to use.

I used the default com ports and what not.

As long as the motherboard supports hardware interrupts and has a physical serial port it should work.

Quite often the newer motherboards are using hardware emulators - drivers within XP that simulate hardware functions.
In this case it will not work.

USB to Serial convertors are known not to work.

The lowest common denominator is an old laptop with Windows 98. You can typically pick these up at a used PC store or a pawn shop for under $50.00.

Also you need to ensure the cable you are using has the right pins shorted.  There is documentation all over the site about this so I am not going to go into it here.

Looking at what was noted in terms of hardware there should not be an issue but as said make sure to have a serial cable.
