Its in a bally e series from 1982. Coin comparitor. Cc-16-d.100. By coin mechanisms inc.  The problem I'm having is it takes every other coin. The game is a two coin in game. So what I'm saying is I have to put in three coins to get the light to light up for the 2nd coin in. Thanks for your help.

Does it always do it? Does it matter how fast you drop the coins in? Have you turned the sensitivity adjustment down (ccw)?

check the operation of your coin switch located under the coin acceptor. Make sure the wire is not loose or bent and binding. That wire gets bent and binds on the side of the slot it sits in sometimes...

This year Bally would have a mechanical type coin acceptor, not one with the sensitivity adjustment, unless it's been converted..

Checked all connections hey are tight. Before I put the first coin in the light on the comparitor is bright when I put the first coin in it. The light goes dim then the second coin goes to the return tray.
Then the light goes bright again and I have to put a third in for a two coin game and I have turn the little dial to change sensitivity does not help

But can you wait a while and have the second coin work? Just trying to determine if it's just taking time for the comparator to 'recover' for whatever reason.

He had said it was a CC-16D which I assumed was not purely mechanical.

But after the first coin. The light steady dim. After about ten seconds it will take the second coin.  weird

I'm not really that familiar with these since mine have never gone bad. I looked at mine and the led comes back on in a split second after dropping a coin in. Sounds like maybe a power issue. I know you said the connectors were tight, but I would pull them all off and re-seat them a few times. there may be some corrosion on a pin.

Try replacing the sample coin.
I have had a simplar problem with one of my slots.
I am not sure if the coin becomes magnitized or something similar or perhaps the metallic properties are just a bit off but when I replaced the coin it never gave me a lick of trouble again.

I am sure any of the vendors here could also replace your coincompartior. They are relatively cheap, they just snap in and its only one harnesss (plug and pray).
Nothing wrong having spare parts around if the orginal turns out to be good.

Hey Junkman... Does this machine have the coin switch located under the coin acceptor like in the pic I've attached? If it does make sure the wire is not loose and rubbing on the side of the slot its in. Sounds like the switch wire might be bend and not returning right away to the ready position. Is this the same machine you found the broken wire on? Maybe the stepper assembly is sluggish and needs to be cleaned and lubricated?

Amachanic, I don't think he has that setup since he said that he has a CC16-D. The CC16-D has two optic sensors at the bottom of the acceptor that trigger a coin in pulse.

The machine must have been upgraded at some point.

StatFreak, I have had a few of these older Bally with the CC16-D acceptor in them, but they were still using the coin switch too.. I see it in the pic hes posted that the coin switch is still present, just wondering if it still functional?

junkman,
Are there any wires going to the lever switch beneath the coin comparator?
I'm surprised at seeing only two wires (Black and Yellow) going to your coin comparator...
Mine have 3 wires going into a 6-pin Molex plug going into the CC at
pin locations from top to bottom at #2,#4, and #6.
However, my machine uses coin optics beneath the CC.
It does NOT have the lever micro-switch.

Then pull the two gray wires off the coin comparator and bend the rake back out of the slot.
You will get 100% coin acceptance - also whatever fits down the slot will be accepted as well... Tongue Out

sounds as if the coin comparator is BAD. sounds as if the cap is bad inside the cc-16.  the ONE AND ONLY PURPOSE OF THE COIN COMPARITOR IS TO ACCEPT A METAL DISC THAT COMPARES TO THE SAMPLE. PERIOD!!! be it a coin or a token, it will discriminate between all other metal discs and accept the type that it compares to the sample, thus the name coin comparator!!! this version of the CC16 has no optics in it . it simply just compares metal discs and if they compare to the sample it will accept them and guide them to the proper discharge port. either to the coin reject,  or to the coin accept . If it goes to the coin accept, it will fall onto the trip wire on the switch, the weight of the coin will cause the switch wire to move downward and put a credit on the machine.
the connection is correct as pictured, pin 1 is on the top, pins 5,6 have the connector, which pin 6 is ground and pin 5 is the a/c voltage. em machines provide 50vac for their operating voltage, you see the black device on the cable providing the power, that's a series dropping resistor, it drops the 50 vac down to the 24vac needed to operate the cc-16.
to make sure your machine is giving you a credit for each time the switch is activated, simply push down on the trip wire using your finger ( to simulate the coin dropping onto it )  if it credits every time then all that circuitry is working as it should.

the coin goes thru the comparator and the trip switch below it and yes the switch is still hooked up and working and all wires are tight. what i would like to do is make it into a penny machine . that's the only denominations i dint have. so if i bend the rake back on the comparator and remove the two gray wires will this let the penny pass through the comparator and is there anything Else i need to modify to make it work right. thanks guys

I don't know if you can make a penny machine out of a Bally without modifying the hopper, and I wouldn't even know where to start? Scratch Head

Besides the hopper not having the correct shelf wheel, I don't know if
a penny is even heavy enough to trip the wire lever micro-switch?

Why not use quarter-sized tokens instead?
Set your denomination via the machine settings, for a penny... just my two cents.
