Title: How do I convert a S+ normal 5 times pay to a double spin 5 times pay Post by: Garetmax on November 24, 2008, 02:52:12 PM Hi, I finally got my own slot machine. :3- I've been wanting one for years and I love it. Its a 1997? S+ 9" flat top upright 3 coin five times pay with a reel prom "6271" and game prom "SP731". I think the motherboard is a 10MHz as it has the 8 dip switches on it. I'm on a budget so I would just like to buy chips to swap out and not the reel strips and glass at this time. The 6271 chip has a 97.41% payback so I would like to have a similar payback with the new chip. Would I be able to make this a double spin 5 times pay with just changing eprom chips? Someone had written on the dip switch label on the motherboard cover "double spin 5 times pay" so maybe it was that game at one time. Other written numbers on the cover include, "5325”, “13-12-11”, and large in marker “846634”. What does these mean? Also, I just purchased a mini-photon progressive meter on ebay but I don't have it yet, so I want any new chips to be able to use this progressive meter as well. I'm a newbie, so sorry if my questions have been asked before. Thanks, Garetmax Title: Re: How do I convert a S+ normal 5 times pay to a double spin 5 times pay Post by: rickhunter on November 24, 2008, 03:00:19 PM You need the chips (both game and reel) and the third reel strip, the first two are the same as in the original game. I should also note that the cherry payouts are slightly different between the normal game and the double spin game. In the normal game any cherry in any position pays. In the double spin games, the cherry must line up left to right, so a cherry in the middle reel only would not pay anything.

Title: Re: How do I convert a S+ normal 5 times pay to a double spin 5 times pay Post by: Garetmax on November 24, 2008, 03:56:44 PM I'm starting to see how this works. There's some great info on this forum. So if I can find: SP810 game chip SS7511 reel chip Reel strips for this double spin option SET chip to enable my bill acceptor again. Would I need a SET005, SET015 or SET017? Do I need a RAM/clear chip also? Where's the best place to buy/price these? Is it possible to just get the chips and reel strips above without the glass to save money? Thanks for your replies, Garetmax Title: Re: How do I convert a S+ normal 5 times pay to a double spin 5 times pay Post by: Ozzy on November 24, 2008, 05:00:35 PM SP810 game chip
IGT utility program SET005, SET015, or SET017 is required to modify the denomination and enable/disable the bill acceptor. SET017 is required to select the SAS Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) option. Before the EFT option can be selected with the set-chip, perform the following steps: install the game chip, enter the self test mode, specify IGT SAS as the accounting system communication type, select a non-zero mini system address, and exit the self test mode. cheers Ozzy Title: Re: How do I convert a S+ normal 5 times pay to a double spin 5 times pay Post by: jay on November 24, 2008, 07:28:11 PM Slots 101
With a IGT slot you have two chips a Reel and a Game Chip. First you have a Reel Chip, this chip controls the Paytable and Reel symbols. Think of it as the THEME chip. Your glass and Reel strips "should" match your Reel Chip. For instance if your current glass is a 2 coin 5x pay and your new game chip is a 3 coin double diamond The number of coins the game will take (based on the new chip) won't match. Secondly the reel strips won't match. The length is always the same but a winning combination of 5x 5x 5x won't necessarily line up with DoubleDiamond, DoubleDiamond, DoubleDiamond as the number of symbols and their placement many vary. I am not sure how close 5x pay and double spin 5x pay is (according to an earlier post it might just be the last strip). As per the glass please click on Ricks FAQs and view the glass in the section labled IGT Game Bible. The Reel Chip also dictates what TYPE of Game Chip you need. To answer your question you might get away with keeping the same glass but you would need a new reel strip set for things to line up. The Game Chip controls the features of the game, such as double spin, haywire action, nudging etc.... This is called the TYPE of game. For instance a TYPE 0 has no special features. Type 5 I believe is a nudge. There might be several game chips that would work with your game but you need to match the TYPE... For instance a 731 and 1271 are practically the same with respect to what TYPE of games they run, 1271 is the newer of the two and has more statistical functions in it. When you change your game chip you lose the functionality of your Bill Validator and subsequently need a Set Chip to re-enable it. Clear chips are only needed rarely such as if your CMOS is corrupted from a battery dead but as they are often sold with the Set Chip you would be best to purchase both at the same time, at the very least you save on shipping charges this way. Any of the vendors listed across the top are excellent to deal with and often give a discount if you let them know you are from NLG. There are no dumb questions and you won't get flamed for asking a question that got asked previously. At the very worst someoe will post a link to an old thread, we were all noobs once. Title: Re: How do I convert a S+ normal 5 times pay to a double spin 5 times pay Post by: knagl on November 24, 2008, 09:37:47 PM SET017 is required to select the SAS Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) option. This is a slot machine in his house -- I don't think he needs to deal with SAS stuff. A SET 15 would be good to have for your DBV. You'll likely want a SET 90 for your mini photon display (which may or may not be necessary depending on the SP chip you use, but if you plan to eventually change the game to something else, you may want to have one on hand in case the new game has a newer SP chip). You'll probably want to get a clear chip as well -- it's good to have on hand, although you typically do not need to clear the RAM all that often, but if you get into a jam you'll need it. I'm partial to the newer SP chips myself, although I know that others here prefer the older ones. It looks like SP1077, SP1228, or SP1249 would all support your game as well as the SP810. As far as where to buy them, call around to the vendors listed at the top of this page. Most all of them can supply you with what you need, but with as many chips and the reel strip that you'll be getting, it'll pay to "shop around" to get the right price. Some of them may offer you a discount for being a NLG member -- mention it to them when getting a price quoted. SET017 is required to select the SAS Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) option. :103- just cut and pasted from the PSR mate, think it is plain reading to see that a set SET005, SET015 will do, looks like he has a PSR to even mention a SET 017. Have also sent a pm to Garetmax, awaating response. I've already ordered the mini-photon from Lemans above. I looked for the PSR's on the internet for the SP1077, SP1228, or SP1249 but couldn't find them. I did find the SP731 and SP810. Is there a central location link for these PSR's or any other common links for these? I'd like to see the differences in these newer chips with the older ones. I got my double spin conversion reel and chips and the mini-photon progressive meter from April at Slot Machines Ltd. She is very helpful. I first put in the mini-photon and got that going with my SP731 game chip. I don't like my mounting that I did and want to eventually get the mounting bracket for it. If anyone knows where to get one, please let me know. To get the progressive working, I flipped dip swith 5 On and left 6-8 Off. After that I did my game change. Everything went off without a hitch except that my progressive meter no longer works. It showed my amount that I had built up on the meter but it wasn't progressive and the options weren't available in the self test anymore. I didn't change the dips at all when doing my game change. I fidded around for awhile doing resets, putting dip 5 Off then On and now the display doesn't show anything. After that I put in the SET90 chip to see if that would get it going and got a 65_4 message. I put the new chip I got (SP810) in and then the SET90 back in and got the same thing. The PSR for the SP810 shows that the dip switches should enable this anyway. What do I do next? I must be missing something. Title: Re: How do I convert a S+ normal 5 times pay to a double spin 5 times pay Post by: stayouttadabunker on November 29, 2008, 02:02:58 AM Try this...it may or may not work...but it wont hurt.
Reason why? you dont have the SET15 chip....oh well. Put the SET90 back in...(remember the correct direction- notch on chip facing notch printed on board)...check for any crooked pins too. Okay, when the "65-4" code comes up, with the door open, turn the "reset" KEY for no more than 2 seconds. You may get "65-1" code, press the white "Test" switch once. OR the "90"- meaning the chip is waiting for your configurations. DBV enabled, coin denom, meter settings, etc. When done with that, power OFF, remove SET90 chip and reinstall SP810. Wait for the game to completely boot and let the machine run the reels to zero (usually where the strips meet together on the reels). Now, close the door, and let it completely boot up and do its maiden reel spin. Now , play a game or two...the meters should increment depending on your configurations with the SET90. Please keep us updated w/details so we can help ya get it going smoothly again! P.S. I cannot stress how important it is to have the correct eeprom extractor tool...They're a little expensive but....I've seen techs use screwdrivers and completely bend the crap out of the last two or three pins. Then they try to bend the pins back and continually weaken the strength of the pins at the very base where the pin is in the eeprom. I speak from experience....I've bent many pins myself when I first started. If you MUST use a screwdriver, the eeprom MUST come out of the socket straight. But usually, to perform that, there's already been too much stress put on the last two pins. You're gonna find that is really a lotta fun trying different eeproms in your game...at least spend a few bucks getting the proper extraction tool or buy a couple of zero insertion adapters (ZIP sockets). Whether any of this applies to you or not is not important - what is : that maybe some new slot owner ,that's playing with eeproms, might read this and benefit from it! Title: Re: How do I convert a S+ normal 5 times pay to a double spin 5 times pay Post by: Garetmax on November 29, 2008, 02:08:46 AM Oh, I actually have a SET15 chip as well. Is that the one I'm supposed to use? I have a ramclear chip also.
Also, one more point of interest is that I don't actually have my bill validator in right now, (WBA-11), as I sent it back for repairing. Would that make a difference? Title: Re: How do I convert a S+ normal 5 times pay to a double spin 5 times pay Post by: stayouttadabunker on November 29, 2008, 02:16:19 AM okay! that's great! Put THAT one in and do the configurations!
The SET15, I believe is only for the DBV enable, and coin denom. It may help the SET90 boot up correctly to take your meter display configurations. let me see if I can get the SET15 PSR and I'll check right back with ya. ADD>> Found this! Title: Re: How do I convert a S+ normal 5 times pay to a double spin 5 times pay Post by: Garetmax on November 29, 2008, 02:56:00 AM I went into the SET15 and didn't see any options for progressive. It came in as 9_1 and then I set it for 25 denom.
I put the game chip back in and still no luck. I then tried the SET90 chip again and it still just shows 65_4. Using the reset key or pushing the self test button doesn't clear the 65_4 at all so I can't get at any of those options. Also, I'm glad I did buy a chip extractor tool since I've been making all of these chip changes. I got mine at Radio Shack for $11.00. The model number is 276-210 which hopefully is a good one. Title: Re: How do I convert a S+ normal 5 times pay to a double spin 5 times pay Post by: stayouttadabunker on November 29, 2008, 03:03:40 AM the dips 1 to 5 should be on while 6,7,8 off.
Also, you need to start with the SET15 and turn on the IGT SAS in order to configure the progressive options . You'll see it in you SP810 PSR right there in the beginning. Follow it one step at a time, go slow. Title: Re: How do I convert a S+ normal 5 times pay to a double spin 5 times pay Post by: knagl on November 29, 2008, 03:28:44 AM I went into the SET15 and didn't see any options for progressive. Using the reset key or pushing the self test button doesn't clear the 65_4 at all so I can't get at any of those options. You can't use the SET 15 to configure the progressive -- that'll only enable your bill validator. 65_4 means that it's the wrong set chip for your SP chip: Quote 65_4 Advisory Message: If the set chip is not compatible with the game options, Winner Paid window = 65_4. To clear this tilt, turn the power off. Remove the set chip. Install the correct set chip. I'm trying to figure out which (if any) is the correct chip, or if that SP uses dip switches only. Can someone send me the PSR for the SP820 please? Thanks. Title: Re: How do I convert a S+ normal 5 times pay to a double spin 5 times pay Post by: knagl on November 29, 2008, 03:47:59 AM Okay, I think I see where the issue is. The good news is you shouldn't need a clear chip or another SET chip.
Yes, please play out or cash out your credits. We should have this up and running in a couple of minutes. Please turn off the machine and check the dip switches. Please set 5 to on, 7 to off. Press the self test button until you see a 0 in the window. Turn the jackpot reset key until you get to option 31. Press the spin reels button until the option changes to 3. Keep pressing the self test button until you get to page 9 -- that's where you can set up your progressive as you did in the past. Let us know if that worked. Title: Re: How do I convert a S+ normal 5 times pay to a double spin 5 times pay Post by: Garetmax on November 29, 2008, 04:07:04 AM Its still not working. I've got the SP810 chip back in. Dips 1-5 are on, 6-8 are off. The progressive options aren't coming up. The credits when I powered back were actually at 0 and maybe because of the battery issue below. Here's a newbie mistake that I haven't mentioned yet. :25- At one point, I got a 12 error in the winner paid and saw that my battery wire attachment on one side of the battery had broken off. I'm pretty sure it broke off when I really jostled the motherboard pulling straight up on it when taking it out and I slipped a bit. I am very careful now. I actually did solder this back on for now and its working, but its not a good solder so I'll have to replace this. I'm pretty sure I had credits on there when I was doing these chip changes originally. When my battery came off would that change any important settings? Thanks, Garetmax Title: Re: How do I convert a S+ normal 5 times pay to a double spin 5 times pay Post by: knagl on November 29, 2008, 04:11:17 AM It needs the battery to retain the settings, yes. We want to eliminate any potential source of issue, so do get that battery secured with a good connection.
Its still not working. I've got the SP810 chip back in. Dips 1-5 are on, 6-8 are off. The progressive options aren't coming up. Did you do this part? Press the self test button until you see a 0 in the window. Turn the jackpot reset key until you get to option 31. Press the spin reels button until the option changes to 3. If you don't change that setting, I believe it defaults to a linked progressive, which is not the correct setting (and would explain why your meter isn't working). Title: Re: How do I convert a S+ normal 5 times pay to a double spin 5 times pay Post by: Garetmax on November 29, 2008, 04:32:53 AM Here's what I see and am trying to follow the PSR.
When I hit the self test here is what comes up. My first push is showing a "2" in the credits and nothing in coins played. Is this the accounting comm type? If so, it looks like its setup for SAS. I didn't change this setting. Maybe this is a default When I had my SP731 chip in there it wasn't like that. Do I need to make this a zero again. :103- Edit: I put the accounting comm type at 0 and no luck. My next push is a 000 in winner paid with 0 coins - This looks like the SAS comm address The next one that comes up is 00 in winner paid with o coins - is the wamm/ccom address? The next one is 5__2 and 0 coins. Option 31 never comes up. That did it. That's a bit tricky there where once your at the 5_2 then you need to use the jackpot reset key only and not the test switch to get to those options. Pretty tricky for a newbie like me anyway. :96- The other tricky part for me was having credits in there. But I still think it is important to note that when you use one of the internal IGT progressives You need to use a Set chip to set the denomination of the machine. Otherwise when you get to the % for the progressive it doesn't know how much to take. SO with this particular game chip a Set015 or similar would be fine. The game chip is too old to be used with a Set 90. Then you get to the progressive options in the regular setup. Press the test button until you get to the song test. Pressing the spin button plays the current song, Turn the jackpot key to step through the seven songs available. Jay, I think that if the DBV is not enabled, you can freely change the denomination from within the standard setup options in the machine. I could be wrong on this one, but I'm pretty sure the restriction with the set chip only applies when a dbv is enabled. Then again maybe the progressive being enable curtails that too? This is what I get when I just mumble about endlessly. :30- :30- :30-But I still think it is important to note that when you use one of the internal IGT progressives You need to use a Set chip to set the denomination of the machine. Unless you set a denomination - and a set chip is the only way to set a denomination - I can't see the progressive incrementing. That does beg the question - I wonder how a set chip would behave without a DBV actually installed ? With the linked Mikon stuff, %% coins vs $ is all set in the PSP software. |
