Title: I made a S+ receiver cabinet side door optic! Post by: stayouttadabunker on August 27, 2009, 03:57:10 PM I had to show you guys this thing I just made and tested.
I didn't have any spare receiver optics for my machine. I did have a couple of old burned out 3-LED coin-in optic boards. I removed the receiver optic LED from the board and used an old 2-pin optic connector. I soldered the two wires to the optic LED and wrapped a little black vinyl tape to protect it. Pictured below is is the homemade receiver cabinet-side optic.>>> The LED snaps into the plastic holder perfectly and it works like a charm! It's a good thing I didn't throw out those old coin-in boards.... :89- click on the the pic to see clearer! Title: Re: I made a S+ receiver cabinet side door optic! [original quote was, (Jim Lovell's mother): "If they could get a washing machine to fly, my Jimmy could land it."] Stout, you have too much free time on your hands! :97- :97- :97- I'm waiting for you to connect one of your autoplaying slots to a wireless network and rig it to send you a message on the internet as well as a pop up message on your TV screen when the machine hits something. :96- Title: Re: I made a S+ receiver cabinet side door optic! Post by: stayouttadabunker on August 28, 2009, 02:29:13 AM well, I don't know about that...lol
However, I do have nearly 2 hours flying time in a Cessna 182.... :96- (I'm trying to obtain my pilot's license... :89- ) My golf balls spend more time in the air than me in an airplane... :5- Title: Re: I made a S+ receiver cabinet side door optic! Post by: StatFreak on August 28, 2009, 08:55:44 AM I didn't say that you'd be the pilot. What I meant was, that if someone wanted a flying washing machine, you'd be the one to patch together the bits and bobs to make it work. :71-

I should have done it when I was single. :30- :30- :30- :30- :7- :7- :7- :7- I could just rent a plane, fly to the nearest airport and pick up my toys!!! I don't think I can put more than 1 machine on a Cessna 182 though. What is the weight restriction on one of those? Title: Re: I made a S+ receiver cabinet side door optic! Post by: stayouttadabunker on August 28, 2009, 12:11:53 PM Those 182 aircraft engines are so weak I wouldn't put more than 20lbs. in the seat behind me...
just kidding...rev them up at the beginning of the runway and all you feel is POWER! :89- As far as weight limitations, I actually don't know really... My Cessna 182 flight manual is stuck in the backseat pocket in the last plane I flew... :25- I'll reveal that it was fantastic to do takeoffs and landings... Way better than my Microshoft Flight Simulator set up on my home computer! I spent the better part of the 2 hrs so far flying around my hometown and where I ski during winter. I even saw my local golf course....next time I'm taking a video camera up with me! :89- I circled around at 500 feet above my house and my family came outside and took pictures of me... I thought that was pretty neat! Let me see if I can pull up a manual... Title: Re: I made a S+ receiver cabinet side door optic! Post by: stayouttadabunker on August 28, 2009, 12:50:26 PM I found some info from this attached link
Check out question #9...the answers are below it >> http://www.aopa.org/asf/publications/cessna_skylane.pdf (http://www.aopa.org/asf/publications/cessna_skylane.pdf) With a full tank of fuel (92lbs.) the max. payload can be no more than 750lbs. :14- However, I would definitely weigh the machines before loading them...lol It's much safer to fly with less weight of course... :89- Title: Re: I made a S+ receiver cabinet side door optic! Post by: StatFreak on August 28, 2009, 02:24:13 PM I, too, would love to learn to fly, but I have too many other expensive hobbies already to take up flying. I have been up as a passenger in a small plane and in a glider. Flying in the glider was a memorable experience, but the wind noise was much greater than I had expected.
Stout, I hope that you can get in enough flight hours to get your license. :89- :71- Title: Re: I made a S+ receiver cabinet side door optic! Post by: stayouttadabunker on August 28, 2009, 03:33:13 PM Between work and golf...lol... I have no time :5-
I think I'll just try to obtain the sport pilot's license for now as the requirements are somewhat easier and less expensive. Once I get that than, over time, I'll go for the full permit... Title: Re: I made a S+ receiver cabinet side door optic! Post by: tjkeller on August 28, 2009, 06:18:30 PM The heck of it is that your FUEL EXPENSE would WAY exceed the amount to ship the item. :89- :25-
That said, it would be a heck of an excuse to get back behind the yoke though! :5- <<<any excuse that "flies" is a good excuse to fly>>>....just stay out of the bad weather! :30- Title: Re: I made a S+ receiver cabinet side door optic! Post by: stayouttadabunker on August 28, 2009, 06:21:28 PM Maybe by the time I get my permit,
they'll come up with some cheap biodegradeable plant/cow manure jet fuel...lol Title: Re: I made a S+ receiver cabinet side door optic! Haven't flown as Pilot in Command since my check ride due to :148- :56- :148- MPG is ONE thing......this takes on a whole new meaning when you have to start measuring in Gallons per Hour esp when 100LL often times is twice what you pay at the pump for your car! :25- :30- Man...if you think THIS hobby is spendy.......whew!!! :5- Title: Re: I made a S+ receiver cabinet side door optic!
