Title: Bulbs......
Post by: Jimise on January 18, 2010, 03:53:47 AM
Hello everyone, What type/voltage of bulb fits in the lighted buttons on the S+ ?
I have a few out and need to replace them. They look like the 12 volt ones in my old dodge van.

Thanks!!   :89-

Hey Buzz -

The #86 6.3 volt bulbs...   Are those the same bulbs used in the display circuit board behind the denomination label?

In the absence of Buzz... Yes.

Are the 86 and 555 lamps the same as pinball lamps of the same number ? Can LED lamps be substituted in slots for the standard lamps like I do in my pin games  ?

Thanks,

Frank

Yes they can, but they don't look good in every location because the light isn't dispersed enough in some cases. There are some newer multi-LED replacements that seem to do a bit better.  Do a site search and you'll find several threads covering the subject.

Sure can Frank!
Like someone said, they look great in some places and not others. Some LED's have only a 20 degree pattern, while the Superflux models have over 140 degree pattern.
I built a bunch of LED "Clusters" for a IGT Top Dollar. They consist of 3 LED's slightly offset from each other and they are 140 degree LEDS, this provides a wider beam pattern.
The Plus part...
They run cooler, driver boards and power supply dont have to work as hard. Plastics wont become brittle from the heat.

The Minus part....
Some colors look "weird" as the light is more towards the blue part of the spectrum. Some "Hot-spotting" occurs where you see a brighter dot in the middle of where you are illuminating.
Costly at first....
Some dim flicker when "off" and can be seen thru the reels. This is due to them being driven thru a lamp matrix.

Kirk

The Pluses outweigh the Minuses in my opinion.

On pin games I have the same issue where some locations look great while others seem dim. I have 4 colors of the 555 lamps and they have the same issue. Where I replace the 44 or 47 lamps with the LED lamps they generally look good. On the 555 lamps you have to figure out which side has the diode because they won't work if reversed. I learned that the hard way after replacing almost 40 lamps where only less than half worked.

You WILL see flicker with LED's in a pin game as they are driven in a X and Y matrix. The filiment is slow to react in a regular lamp, but the LED is very fast and the human eye can see this flicker.
This can also happen in a slot machine that uses lamp matrixing (IGT and WMS)

Is this the "right" #86?
and is this a decent price?

Is there a better cheaper place?

I just bought #86 LEDs from http://bcspinball.com/ and was very happy with the price, shipping, and service.  The "W1" color white LEDs have a slight blue tint, just like the ones in the casino.  $1 each.

Same brand and box. Go to Steve Young's Pinball Resource web site and go to electrical and then go to Lamps/Lights/Bulbs. He will make your first order cash or check up front, but every order after that will be where you send him a check in ten days. Open terms that are very buyer friendly. Lots of good stuff on his site.

NO  candle takes a bayonet bulb ( round base) I think a #44 or # 47 will work.

Use the 44, it burns cooler than the 47 lamp. Both look and go in exactly the same way.

Here is a picture of the the top of the 6000 candle.  It looks like it takes the Blade base? Flat type base...

Thanks!!!

Oh Oh  We started this thread with a IGT S+  I missed the part where it got changed to a Bally 6000.  I'm not sure of the voltage of a 6000

Pretty soon we'll be talking about whether or not these bulbs work on the wings of a Cessna 172... :96-

I bought some #86 bulbs today for 55 cents each...    Yeah - a little more than the 42 cents each someone else found but - I got them from a "brick-n-mortar" electronics store about 1 mile from my work.

Another plus?   They have motherboard batteries with the solderable leads too.

Even another plus?  This store is between my work and home so I don't have to make a side trip...

He went though a divorce about three years ago. He sold a lot before his ex took everything based on his old posts.

Holy Crappers! Tim!
First of all, let me say that I've read all your posts back a few years ago
when you hooking up progressives and playing with the PSP programs.
It's great to see you back! :136-

Hey...IM Back!

Fantastic!  WELCOME BACK!

I was tinkering with a Mikohn Supreme for the first time a few months back -- I went back and read a lot of your old posts and learned a ton from them.  Thank you for those posts, and welcome back to the site -- I'm sure I'll have a few Supreme questions for you in the future!
